I'm strongly in favor of free speech until I hear something I don't like. Then I want to retaliate against that person. Any other response, such as me making a better argument, would feel weak and just invite more free speech I don't like.(that's why we like to hang around with people having similar mindset). if he cared about freedom of speech, He wouldn't have sued the original tesla founders for saying that Elon is not a founder of Tesla.
Also if Elon cared about free speech, Tesla wouldn't have sued Top Gear for making test with tesla roadster and for damaging it after driving for a few miles

The founders said what they felt like saying. And perhaps continue to say that. Elon went the legal way, and sued them for his own reasons. He didn't stop them from saying that. They are still free to say it.
If the 'original' founders are right, the course of Law will naturally find it out. Or otherwise, they may have to pay a legal price, for their actions, incase, if they did something.
It's simple as that. He did not subdue their FoE. The US has some of the best Free Speech arrangements. The Law in that country, naturally protects the FoE and FoS, of its citizens.
