I don’t know if I would say he had a better career than Mitch Richmond but I guess it can be debated but this draft class wasn’t nothing to scream about
You all forgot about the best NYC point guard during that era, Dwayne Pearl Washington. Talk about stunted growth! He only played 3 years in the NBA. Here's a player who was great in the open court pushing the ball up the floor, then he gets drafted by the Nets and what does the coach tell him. Walk the ball up the court and pass it to the big men. I believe it was either Bill Fitch or Dave Wohl who was the coach. Man they just destroyed his career. If he were playing today, he would dominate.
Maaaaaan, there was NOBODY better at breaking down the defense and getting to the hoop. I collect the old scouting books, and the rap on him was always, every year, his attitude and antics. It's very interesting to look at his rookie year next to the other great NYC guard Mark Jackson. One was beloved by the city (at the time and it didn't last long) and an absolute gentleman. The other was kinda crazy and gave zero effs if anyone liked him, including his teammates and coaches. No surprise which one they kept, and which got traded for a washed up and broken down Mo Cheeks.
Rod Strickland was COLD! I never realized that he'd never made ALL-STAR. I always assumed he chose to rest. He was unstoppable & so refined in fundamental basketball that you had to respect it. I used to hope A.I. studied him because he couldn't outrun the league forever, so learning to control tempo to your TEAM's advantage may have gotten him back to the FINALS.
He had all-star talent, but attitude and work ethic is part of what makes an All-Star as well. He was deficient in those areas. Maybe that's why his teams never won much.

In the 80's-90's NYC had point guards on lock but let's be honest the only NYC pg in the league on a all-star level is Kyrie he from Newark but its basically across a bridge the chi the dmv Philadelphia and Los Angeles has something to say lol
Always been well known, highly rated, and respected as having one of the nicest, most entertaining games. In his era outside shooting was not a prerequisite of a point guard. He's not one of the GOATS or the MVPs but he was memorable and had a lovely game.
good video...never saw Rod get his pocket picked liked that. He literally had the ball on a string and once he got in the lane, it was a wrap. On a side note, he looks like rapper Mic Geronimo
Rod was one of the layup Gods at his position, the best if only Kyrie Irving could have had more of rod Stricklands overall point guard game like court vision ,passing, and pace kyrie Irving would have been arguably the most complete point guard.
True, but you also have to take into account that it’s a different eras between them. Strickland had to be a pure point guard in his era because that was the era of pure point guards. The era that Kyrie is playing in now has guys like Westbrook, Lillard, Curry, and pre-injury D. Rose to name a few, guys who are scoring point guards.
@@lil_james1584 true, the last decade the NBA as been more about scoring PGs and point forwards and versatile bigs that can stretch the floor less physical play .

He was not the First Kyrie, He'z Rod Strickland yu got the chit baccwards. His game was way more unique then Cryrie, he can actually run a team
Rod has said Kyrie is better....
@@thabangmatsepe863 He's actually Kyrie's godfather.
@@richkid1970 Yeah him and Kyrie pops played together back in the day. So he family.
@@thabangmatsepe863 I can't agree, Rod played n a physical era he would dominate Now No hand checcn
@Game 12 Not at all Cryrie gets Injured every Season Fam, and it ain't as physical. He barely passes the ball and is on a path to be on 4-5 different teams wasting his true ability to Lead a team
7:23 No. I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS say if Jason Kidd had Steve Nash’s jumpshot he’d be known as the best PG of all time.
Al Harrington do one on him please
Strickland basketball moveset was 🥶
Are New York point guards really the best in the country? Or are they overrated?
Hoopers from Da Chi wanna have a word w/u
New York has the best guards to me.
@@chihollywood9379 sorry pop chitown got tough players ....
But N.Y.C. got killer point guards....
I played on a traveling A.A.U team in the early 90's an I will say this i played in Peoria & Rockford an dudes are leapers an hard nose dudes...We bring style an grace to the court.....💥⛹️♂️🇵🇷
Jerseys the best!!💪🏾NY is 2nd😲
In the 80's-90's NYC had point guards on lock but let's be honest the only NYC pg in the league on a all-star level is Kyrie he from Newark but its basically across a bridge the chi the dmv Philadelphia and Los Angeles has something to say lol
Bruh, another great video. Keep grinding. Plz do one on Marvin Barns! Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your weekend 💯
Always been well known, highly rated, and respected as having one of the nicest, most entertaining games. In his era outside shooting was not a prerequisite of a point guard. He's not one of the GOATS or the MVPs but he was memorable and had a lovely game.
Another great vid.
good video...never saw Rod get his pocket picked liked that. He literally had the ball on a string and once he got in the lane, it was a wrap. On a side note, he looks like rapper Mic Geronimo
Definitely underrated loved this dude 2
