I’m a retired LEO. I spent years as anti gray man and some as gray man. In an argument for each I think context, purpose, and location play a part. I remember once hearing an instructor say “If you don’t want to get eaten don’t look like food”. This is true of people by themselves, especially women. If you’re walking with your head buried in your phone oblivious to what’s going on around you, you’re easy pickings. But if you’re using situational awareness, walking with a purposeful stride, and making eye contact, the bad guy will likely search for an easier target. I think anti gray man is for normal times. But if you’re trying to hide in plain sight in a time of unrest, gray man is the way to go. Remember the first Police Academy movie when during the riot the police officer put on a sport coat and walked right by the rioters? Well probably most of y’all weren’t born. Stay alert, stay safe.

Be fluid in your actions, be confident, aware and project Power. Nothing attracts predators like weakness.
Your clips of NYC in your video should go into a museum for the way Manhattan once looked before Covid, shut downs, and the wholesale destruction of middle class life.
We are all gray men and women already. Not everyone has military style gear and bulletproof vests, but I can assure you that everyone out there can get their hands on jeans and a t shirt. Basically, just don't suddenly stop dressing and acting like a normal person and you'll be fine.

As for glasses, I had a friend that lost an eye but would put a prescription lens on that side anyway to disguise that fact. Also the tops were slightly tinted. Could never really tell what he was looking at unless you were speaking directly to him. He was stealth as hell too.
I have never been noticed not in school or when I am out in about no one picks on me or ask me questions and usually dont remember me doing something or being somewhere well I want to be that way and I have naturally have been that way since I was a child. When to go gray: (1) When you are doing something you don't want to be questioned about, possibly to preserve opsec, because your actions might be of questionable legality (moving a self defense item to or from an urban workplace), you are finding out if your wife has a boyfriend, etc. (2) When things are getting tense, but are not yet at a crisis point, and you want to remove yourself form an area before serious things begin to happen. Consider an event happening that is just building towards a "peaceful protest" - you want to move through the area without being targeted by the early groups within the mob. (3) When things are happening and the area is being locked down by authority systems and you want to move through without being stopped (no one wants to try to explain their EDC to an officer when there was a terrorist attack two blocks away that you are having to skirt around). (4) When you are moving through dangerous territory (you may drive through some shady areas on your daily commute which, if having to hoof it to your suburban home would put you places you would not normally choose to be, especially in a crisis). Gray isn't about avoiding Joe Blow's notice - he is irrelevant. It is about avoiding the notice of predators, mobs looking for targets, and officers who might detain you. The hardest part of being gray, however, is concealing gear. Bags, meaningful firearms, body armor - these are things that are difficult to conceal. Finding ways to make those things vanish is always going to have issues of control (briefcase is easier to steal than a backpack and holds less), fit, space, etc. Knowing your bug out routes well to trim your gear as much as you can (so you only have what you will need rather than what you might need - which goes against the prepper's nature - is key) and, if necessary, having your gear at waypoints rather than on you the whole way will be helpful. Just doing things like noting all the water spots on your route so that you can not carry any water, but just a lifestraw can cut weight and bulk massively.
I was born to be this way, anyone isn't a natural should stick to what they're good at; forcing yourself to be this way could get the opposite effect than what you want.
Grey man looks less of an option as time goes by. When SHTF, hungry and desperate people will attack you, regardless of how you wear. But by wearing tactical clothing and gear, you will seem like a harder target in the eyes of these desperate people.
I am the average aging housewife, slightly overweight and in my late 50's. Trust me, I'm invisible and am virtually ignored by everyone/anyone. I worry about my husband who is fit, handsome and 6'5" How can he blend in anywhere? I can't make him shorter or uglier....I worry about him. What do we do about him?
Yes, because you won't know how to blend in quickly enough. Observant people fixed in that environment will notice. So frequent the environments you may need as an alternate path.
In a misspent youth I made my money by providing a driving service and delivery of varrious products for an organization. I had to be invisible but not a target. I think I could still do this.
The best way I can say that I agree with you is this: I got a Navy Blue cover for my body armour, so I can wear my ENIBA body armour without tactical camo I got invisible inserts for my baseball caps to give me head protection I sewed kevlar anti-cut material on the inside of my top. When I bug out I want to look like a disgruntled workman, forced to go on-the-move in his work clothes. I dont want to look like Tactical-Keyboard-Warrior-Bro, with full camo and a plate holder ... even though that is what I am.....sadly
Every day I wear khakis, and dark solid color polo, never wear anything with design or bright colors, though I can blend in anywhere. Turns out I became the guy at work that wears a dark solid color polo and khakis every day lol
I’m a gray man...slightly overweight, my dark hair now graying. My square jaw now rounding, and chiseled chin, now double. Used to be noticed by the ladies, now often overlooked even by old ladies. I even have to remind my boss that I’m still one of his employees. I’m an older guy, often dismissed by the new generation as not “woke” yet, and possibly a pushover if it came to it...but what they don’t realize, is I’m still in better physical shape than most, and whether it be the younger or older ladies, or a young buck who thinks he could easily push me around...if it came to it - they would all be very surprised. 😜👍
@Buttercup just look for the quiet guy in the corner that you’d glance at, and then you look again he’s gone-or you’ll see his backside heading out. That’ll be me.
I think you covered this in the last video but remember to take note of distinct landmarks that can be used to orient around, should you be lost or need to lose a pursuer. The environment can be your best friend in these situations
Been doing the grey man objective for a few years. I usually do as little as possible and is always busy too scan my area for safety as i live in a country that is a high risk

What if you have a military jacket just to be wearing it? There was a girl that wore one when we were in school. She didn't wear it all the time but she would sometimes.
I became a gray man in middle school without knowing it. My friend's moved away and I didnt want to stand out as a loner, so I learned to blend in. Now retired LE a lot of these techniques are second nature.
What is tough these days, is that I am a lean, fit, healthy male. People often notice/look at my body, and then my face. They are used to seeing grey fat, obese, out of shape, people everywhere.
In which case to better fit in by consuming McDonald's for 3 meals, (fit snacks in too). You'll be looking like the average hamburger American in no time!
Yes I love in a verrrrrrry low income predominantly blue collar and yes minimally educated part of CA where the norm is FAT FAT FAT but everyone thinks they're effing ghetto fabulous they can barely get their Jersey over their gut, or in and out of their Honda Civic. I'm not perfect but I prefer walks and healthier food, so for that I always stand out. It's sad to see so much apathy and gluttony but I try not to let it get me down.
I wonder often about my country neighborhood: on Day One of SHTF, it’s too early to pull out the maps showing perimeter defense and discuss radio codes, and a security schedule. At least I think it is...and Day Two and Day Three. Let the neighbors realize that and then it’s time to help out however I can. Thoughts?
If you wait until day 1, it may already be too late. I'm a pragmatist. If I have to risk my life to POSSIBLY save someone else who will just drag me down afterward, then you're probably on your own. It's like the disaster movie I watched where the 11 year old kid never listened and risked getting killed, only to be saved by an adult. He fell down a steep snowbank because he wouldn't stay put as told; he fell off the end of the last train to civilization.... When he fell off the train, they should have just waved goodbye and good luck. Instead, they all jumped off the train. Several of them died later, all because the stupid worthless kid couldn't obey. If anyone is going to be a detriment to survival, they can piss off.

Want good gray man training? Live in the hood for 5 years. I did it for 15 years and only got shot twice and stabbed twice, got robbed three times. Good luck.
Wow.... I never though about it like that. That means I’ve been practicing Gray my entire life. I’ve managed to blend in even though I stick out like a sore thumb due to various factors. Gray doesn’t work all the time though, sometimes you gotta bring the heat. Gray first, then rabid dog after when the opponent has set its sight. Im actually shocked that living in the hood finally has a benefit lol

My job doesn't allow camouflaged masks for the same reason.
I carry a baseball cap and an old baggy sweatshirt in my get home bag. Being a woman in SHTF.... I will be trying to look like a man. Especially if I’m alone.
@Gman That might work here in Seattle 😂
I would be concerned this might draw even more attention to you as women usually move different to men and people might take a second look to check out “which one you are”.
Good idea. Don't forget your big assed concealed gun 👍
Just dress like a drag queen and most will ask your pronouns and you can tell them you are a he. That might actually work better these days! Crazy bizarre-o world we're in.

You can get rid of all those social medias, you will still be identified!
Simple. Just have a username like “can I hit a million subs with no vids” and have an anime girl pfp.
I'm new to this prepping thing but this feels like one big excuse to LARP as Liam Neeson 🤣
LMFAO
I spent my childhood and adolescence trying to become the grey man to deter bullies, I know it's commonly know as camouflaging, now it's a skill😉
I learned a lot of this as a kid as I was bullied a lot. It prepared me for life later.
Same. I became a watcher. I knew so much about everyone. Lol
That's so funny I thought I was the only one🤣
No doubt, looking at these videos I wonder why people need to be told about this stuff as it seems like common sense to me.
@@ChiefSmackahoLLC probably because of people like me, who were unable to figure out how to hide from the school bullies. (I'm ok now, but I hate ''socializing'')
Good video. Personally, I try to avoid urban areas, period, unless it's absolutely necessary. Another term for this is "Hiding in Plain Sight" and it's an art that is taught in certain circles. Be fluid in your actions, be confident, aware and project Power. Nothing attracts predators like weakness.
One of your best and most accurate videos ever! Great job!!!!!
Wow, thanks!
Great info. Sun Tzu’s The Art of War really puts this into context.

Awesome book. I couldn't put it down!
Was taught this in the military. Very valuable skill to have to keep from being a target.
Excellent advice, especially in these times of civil unrest. Trouble could be just around the corner. Thank you!
Women ignore me all the time, this whole "gray man" might be my thing.
That just means you're not attractive

Your clips of NYC in your video should go into a museum for the way Manhattan once looked before Covid, shut downs, and the wholesale destruction of middle class life.
sad, isn't it?
Great suggestions to have in the mental toolbag. Good stuff! Thx.
We are all gray men and women already. Not everyone has military style gear and bulletproof vests, but I can assure you that everyone out there can get their hands on jeans and a t shirt. Basically, just don't suddenly stop dressing and acting like a normal person and you'll be fine.
You should make one on how to find work off the radar, like when all jobs require vaccinations or something similar, when people have to make personal choices but make a living.
Another informative, clear & concise video to help us survive! Thanks & stay safe.
Hi!
Thank you-
Again, some more, still!
The helpful info that you share is priceless.

i just came from watching your first grey man and about to watch you're anti grey man video it is a very interesting topic 😀 great video thanks
Acting like you belong there is probably the most crucial and most difficult part of Gray man.
I know acting like your bottom wasn't drilled the night before is tough for you by how awkward you walk

As for glasses, I had a friend that lost an eye but would put a prescription lens on that side anyway to disguise that fact. Also the tops were slightly tinted. Could never really tell what he was looking at unless you were speaking directly to him. He was stealth as hell too.
This is very good information. Especially if you are in another country and want to blend it. It is quite hard.
Another great video. Thank you sir and all the very best from SV Ohana.
Great content as always.
I have never been noticed not in school or when I am out in about no one picks on me or ask me questions and usually dont remember me doing something or being somewhere well I want to be that way and I have naturally have been that way since I was a child. I have never been asked to buy something buy a seller or asked to fill out something.
When to go gray:
(1) When you are doing something you don't want to be questioned about, possibly to preserve opsec, because your actions might be of questionable legality (moving a self defense item to or from an urban workplace), you are finding out if your wife has a boyfriend, etc.
Great video! Become gray or invisible when needed should be another tool for your survival tool box.
Hard hat, high viz, work boots, tool box and dark work trousers, preferably dusty. That is what I used to blend in.
@Predbeau101 yeah the trick is in not looking like a newb, unless you're young enough to look like an apprentice on the first day.
Might not work for everyone.
All this information is good you have to do what's right for the situation you're in
The key to being the grey man is to not get caught in an environment you dont normally frequent.
Yes, because you won't know how to blend in quickly enough.
Observant people fixed in that environment will notice.
So frequent the environments you may need as an alternate path.
The key to being a grey man is not commenting and telling people something is key

In a misspent youth I made my money by providing a driving service and delivery of varrious products for an organization. I had to be invisible but not a target. I think I could still do this.
Add an expensive watch to the guise. Along with shoes it is a useful marker and also one that is easily concealed.
The best way I can say that I agree with you is this:
I got a Navy Blue cover for my body armour, so I can wear my ENIBA body armour without tactical camo
I got invisible inserts for my baseball caps to give me head protection
I sewed kevlar anti-cut material on the inside of my top.
When I bug out I want to look like a disgruntled workman, forced to go on-the-move in his work clothes.
I dont want to look like Tactical-Keyboard-Warrior-Bro, with full camo and a plate holder ... even though that is what I am.....sadly
Great information to keep in mind, and implement. As always, thanks CP.
My pleasure!!
Blend in colorwise...depending on the surroundings
Every day I wear khakis, and dark solid color polo, never wear anything with design or bright colors, though I can blend in anywhere. Turns out I became the guy at work that wears a dark solid color polo and khakis every day lol
If it were mew, I would tailor my outfit to the environment. Observe and adapt.
@Buttercup smile, eye contact say hello, ask a question to trip me up...go from there.

I think I’m always trying to blend in and go unnoticed so it shouldn’t be too hard for me,except for being unusually tall.
I remember pt1 being the video I fpund you with! Great addition!
Basic rules: Just operate in a normal manner. Look like you belong. Be humble in humble situations. Be the most dangerous in dangerous situations.
Just as local team hats and shirts help you to blend rival hats and shirts will make you stick out . Becareful to much of a thing will make you noticed just as fast as not enough . This is why notice of environment is key to blending in
Good luck and God's Blessings to All
So, for instance, the guy I saw sauntering down the sidewalk, walking a dog and only wearing an almost skin tone speedo is usually considered different...but I am in Oregon

Wear a puffy coat in winter.
Or a suit jacket or open flannel shirt in summer over a tshirt.
Yes I love in a verrrrrrry low income predominantly blue collar and yes minimally educated part of CA where the norm is FAT FAT FAT but everyone thinks they're effing ghetto fabulous they can barely get their Jersey over their gut, or in and out of their Honda Civic.
@Pete Johanssen Hey Pete, thanks for reply. My family is a half-mile from major four-lane highway, and we are five minutes from small city/large town of 30,000. Shopping bags are mostly free or very cheap. Double or triple a few to carry your minimal stuff.
Your stuff should look normal and still function properly.
Dress for the locale, the weather and the prevalent activity. Try try to be one of many and not THE ONE!
Brothers and sisters, listen to the man on the street preaching the word of God, for he warns us to repent and accept Christ so that we may be saved. There will be many spreading the word of God when we are told to remain silent and comply.
@Abby Marie Don't be a fool. Use your ears and listen. Soften your hardened heart.
Hallelujah Amen!
Mockers and scoffers be damned by your own pride!
@Abby Marie I ask for forgiveness because I have sinned. I have broken God's commandments. The wages of sin is death, therefore I have earned my wage and it will be paid in full, paid in death. Just like you. The only difference is, I repent and have accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior and His sacrifice on the cross for our sins. He paid the *ultimate price* just so that you and I and anyone who believes in Him has an opportunity at eternal life in heaven. Soften your heart and the Truth shall set you free and the Truth is Jesus Christ.
@Abby Marie Believe whatever you'd like. Your blood is off my hands. When you die, you will stand before the True Living God and shall be judged, as we all will be. A belief in God is not a religion, rather it is a personal relationship between the creator who loved you so much He gave His only begotten Son to die on the cross for the sins of the world. Get right with Him before it's too late.
