    Stop listening to people that don't understand the dynamics of football and how INTEGRAL the running game is to an offense. If a player is a potential generational talent at RB you take him. Look at Saquon, Henry, Barry, Emmitt, Zeke for his first contract, Jahmyr Gibbs, etc. A RB of that talent is worth a 1st round pick. Jeanty appears to be on that level.

      Barkley never came close to his 1st round status until this year. He was constantly injured and suffered from running behind a below average o-line in NYG. If Dallas thinks it has an above average O-line then it might make sense for them to pull the plug on an elite RB. If it turns out their O-line is a mess then picking a RB in the first round is a waste.

      You need an offensive line to run the ball.

      @@bytownbylaw Absolutely, you have a young all pro at LG, a young stud at C, you'll have to find a RG to replace Martin which will be easy this class has great guards and you have options on the team, and Terence will have to improve or be replaced. I think Guyton will be better this year. Dallas is a player or 2 from being a top line in this league.

      @@byronstevens8085....i think identifying tackles in free agency will be key because i believe one of the current tackles needs to be moved to the guard spot.
      Regardless of the status of the offensive line at draft time, if Ashton Jeanty seems like the most explosive big play type rb, who is also good after initial contact, i think you should be aggressive to go up and get him.
      Are there good backs in the draft class that can improve the depth chart/running back room without sacrificing draft assets to move up?
      Yes, every season in the nfl there are, however i believe The Cowboys need "more" star level football players and i do see Jeanty as a star level running back.
      He does have a major weakness!
      He is a big time fumbler!
      So film study will be huge here and confidence in the coach that is not only advocating for him but also claiming they can solve this issue via better technique and coaching emphasis.
      Even if Jeanty falls to 12, if there is a back they like who they believe will be available in round 2, 3, or 4 but not another wr they like late, maybe they go wr at 12?
      Defensive tackle is another position i would prefer as a free agent target, a professional d-lineman.
      I like either RB or WR at #12.....score some damn touchdowns rather than kicking so many damn field goals!

    Love the Adams hire...the Cards podcasts still won't admit he is leaving. 😂I think Adams will be a big part of game planning, just not calling the plays. I certainly hope they pick his brain and have him contribute to the game plan. He was so successful as an OL coach it would be nice to have him also coach the OL, if possible, otherwise have Lunda Wells move to OL coach. They extended Wells to continue to coach the TEs but it wasn't clear for how long. So far, I'm liking the decisions Schotty is making with his coaching staff! We needed the DI way before DE.

    We need to run the ball better so we need o line and RB, we need to stop the run better so DT, LB and Edge. Getting a premium RB in round 1 and likewise DT in 2 would be a great start to the draft.

    I’m taking Jeanty if he’s there. I know everyone says it’s a deep RB class but I’m not passing on what looks like a sure thing. I hope they don’t make the mistake and try to trade back for an extra pick, passing on Jeanty, I honestly think that will haunt them, if it worked out that way!

  • @cobolh0pp3r12
    @cobolh0pp3r12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

    I like the trade back scenario (to hopefully get another 3rd or a 4th), but if stuck I'd take Josh Simmons OT (assuming he's healthy) at 12 if stuck. In THIS trade back, I'd just take Jeanty too!

  • @scout06171
    @scout06171 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

    Today’s defenses are geared to stopping the pass rather than stopping the run. Back in the day, linebackers were monsters who wouldn’t make it through a game without being ejected due to the new rules that favor the offense. Thus linebackers and defensive linemen are smaller to rush the passer and to cover receivers.
    A few teams have adopted a run first mindset and one is playing in the Super Bowl. All of the run first teams that I can think of made the playoffs because they are able to take advantage of smaller and weaker fronts that concentrate upon stopping the pass and pressuring the QB.
    I’m not a Coach but I’m a military man who recognizes that there’s an advantage to be had by making our strength opposite their weakness. Like every fan knows, if you force the opposition into using 8 players in the box, you can use play action to open up the field for your passing game. Personally, I think our passing game is in need of a second receiver who is dependable and can get open in zone and single coverage.

    • @LockedOnCowboys
      @LockedOnCowboys  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      These are great points, I would just add that the slide back and forth down the spectrum of run/pass is fluid. After years of what you describe in your first paragraph, it seems that the tide has turned back slightly towards the importance of having an efficient run game. But your logic in the third paragraph is sound about prioritizing the second receiver (it matches my own thinking as well).

      @@scout06171 this is not why more teams are running the ball. Over the past 6 seasons scoring and offence has been down.
      With offences having now become more spread and using more 11P and even even 12P to attack defences with the RPOs and the quicker pass game which has now become a part the “run game” DCs now do not mind giving up a 4-6 yard run vs a big chunk play. This was talked about from various DCs in the NFL.
      3techs and 2i and 0 techniques are still playing at 6’2 and 320+ LBs. Backers are now more faster and and can run sideline to sideline and are asked to cover more, especially now with teams playing a lot more Tampa 2 and having the MIKE run the pole. Old school backers would not be able to do this as successfully.
      Defences now have to match with TEs and or an extra WR vs 21 and 22 personnel like back in the day.
      The Eagles play a BASE 4-2-5. Defences are also becoming very good at rotating safeties and even playing a 3 high defence. The middle safety on run downs can fit the run while being unblocked in the run scheme and also play any RPO quick game and play PA.
      Offences are using more 11P and 12P and using motion to insert with pre snap motion to get an extra blocker vs the old school static full back.

    If you don't rate the WRs at around 44 then would you take the best available TE in what is considered a very good TE class? Mason Taylor for instance would help your pass and run game and given the greater focus on running will we want to play more two TE sets?

    • @LockedOnCowboys
      @LockedOnCowboys  วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't hate this idea, but in some ways it's a lot like the WR situation, we don't need bodies, we need talent at the top. I like Mason Taylor, but does someone like that move the needle on what you already got? Now... if Arroyo is available..? Then you have my attention...

    • @adilchaudhrey3167
      @adilchaudhrey3167 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't actually agree that there aren't "move the needle" talent guys at WR for Dallas specifically. Egbuka would be great. Bech could well produce like a Nacua or Godwin...he has that kind of all round very good skillset, incredible hands, inside and out versatility, combined with elite toughness, physicality, IQ and competitiveness. Add that to Lamb, Tolbert, Mingo, Turpin, a good Ferguson, Schoonmaker, Brevin-Ford and you have a very good pass carching group. Add dynamic RBs and get the passing and run game scheme creativity, variety and execution upgraded and offense could be cooking. OL showed as season progressed that it could perform at a pretty good level and young guys should get better.

      If the Cowboys are fully committed to a run game and the think they need an elite running back to pair with their above average Offensive Line then who are we fans to argue. The Cowboy’s organization knows more about their football team and each player than any of us fans because we’re not at the Star or in the locker room with the players and coaches. However, just drafting a running back in the first round doesn’t mean he’s going to be elite in the NFL. look at Barkley’s NYG career. He didn’t do squat there because their O-line was below average. He just showed his true potential this year behind the Eagles O-line.
