  • Senator Lynn Ruane questions Justice Minister Helen McEntee over whether we need a discussion on the catalyst for some people becoming involved in the Dublin riots.
Helen McEntee is appearing before the Oireachtas Justice Committee this morning to answer questions on the State response to the riots.
Garda cars, buses and a tram were set alight during the riots last months - with shops looted and vandalised.
The violence came after protesters gathered near the scene of the Parnell Square attack became violent.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee has been heavily criticised for her response to the riots - with the Government beating off a Sinn Féin vote of no confidence in her earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Garda Commissioner Drew Harris was grilled over the Garda response to the violence in his own appearance before the committee last week.

She doesn't want to understand these people, she just wants the focus off her failure as a justice minister and lack of action. Disgraceful.

what leftist nonsense. So we now have to try and understand what led that poor man to place a burning piece of cardboard into a car?

Helen McEntee is so deeply inept for her role as Minister for Justice. It is so painful to watch and hear her constantly manipulate, generalise, and gaslight the Irish people for her, and her political elite besties, own gains.

The statement that there is no personal circumstance that could force somebody to set alight to a garda car is obviously correct. Are the circumstances of people doing riots worse than others, 100%, have they been failed, 100%. I remember being attacked in town by three guys, luckily I was just about able to present a big enough problem that I didn't go down but if somebody told me "ah ye have to understand their personal circumstances," I don't care, they didn't ask for my help, they didn't say sorry, their friends around them didn't even try to intervene.
If you protest, you should be listened to and talked to to see if we can meet your demands or if they're fair... If you set a bus on fire an attack it's passengers, you are out of the conversation, you're a lost cause and nobody should trust you because that would be very silly.
