After a tough ending to their season, the Detroit Red Wings made some great moves this summer to get even better. The signings of Erik Gustafsson, Vladimir Tarasenko, and Cam Talbot should help them have an even better record than last season. Also, Patrick Kane, Lucas Raymond, Alex DeBrincat, Moritz Seider, and Dylan Larkin should be even better this season. This is why I predict that the Detroit Red Wings will make the playoffs this upcoming 2024-2025 season.

Seider's points last season when his deployment was such an anomaly compared to every other defender in the league (besides his linemate) shows how good he is.

We lost: Perron, Sprong, Fabbri and replaced with Tarasenko and Motte. I’m a huge fan of Tarasenko, but he was a 3rd liner on a cup team and another year older.
On D: We lost Ghost and Walman and replaced with Eric Gustafson. While I’ve always believed Gustafson has been undervalued/underrated, he’s not replacing Ghost, let alone both of them. Losing Walman is a big mistake and makes no sense. He, along with Seider, had the hardest deployment in the entire league and he still provides some offense. Capable of 2PP QB. Barring any big moves, this team is arguably worse than last year.
You’re lost man.first of all trading walman makes a lot of sense cause do you want to have the money to sign seider and Raymond yes or no.
2.fabbri always got hurt so getting rid of him was smart.
3.gustavsson is replacing ghost and better,cause gustavsson is better defensively then ghost is which is what we need better defense and yzerman is doing great by fixing our issues right now .yzerman is arguably the underrated manager this offseason and arguably the one who made the best move by not signing players like stamkos,marchessault,debrusk and Montour ,they all got signed with high price which is risky for players that are in their 30’s like stamkos in marchessault cause they’re not always going to be 40 goal scorers and eventually get rusty.and injuries also makes it risk y to sign long term deals overpaid.
So Nashville may regret signing them both long term you never know.
And about Perron he had a bad season which is why yzerman replaced him with tarasenko who is a better player and scorer than Perron,and tarasenko is not a 3rd liner he’ll be on the second line I bet money on it.
And sprong he only had a one year contract chill out on him,he was never staying especially that he didn’t stay successful in the second half of the season.and cam talbot had .913 save percentage last season Lyon and reimer were no where near that ,you don’t have to read all of this but it’s all facts.

Bergren and edvinsson will have to be huge in order for the playoffs to happen. Still too many useless D men.
Edvinsson will be with the team all season. He may not get the points Ghost got, but he's better on the defensive end. Also Ghost got most of his points it seemed on the PP. That's where the Wings may miss him the most, unless Seider starts quarterbacking the team with massive improvement.

Tarasenko is my favorite player. Him and kane on a line will be so good. I'm telling you wings bros, ppg for vova and kaner. I'm a dirty blues fan so I cannot ever really root for kane but he is still a very good hockey player at 35. Wings will be a playoff team this season. Mark it dude 😀

they have 0 defense. They got Sieder and and not much others. They got a goalie that can put up 900-905 SV%. And with that horrible defense he will probably put up around an 900 SV%. Outside their top 6 their forward core really isn’t all that impressive. So they really don’t have the pieces to outweigh their divisional rivals. The Sens, TBL, TOR, BOS, FLA, and possibly the Sabers will all be better just in their division alone. So no… they will not make the playoffs. They will be competitive but not make it.

I have a good feeling about the Red Wings this season! We picked up Vladimir Tarasenko from the cup champion Panthers, we still have Debrincat and Showtime Patrick Kane, and we picked up some good prospects! I think we might at the very least make the playoffs this year

I think adding 2 way forwards will help their defense out.Getting rid of guys like Fabbi will help.They need quicker defense on the back end, that is obvious...at the NHL level.The 1st and 2nd lines are going to have to stay healthy for them to compete thats for sure.

As a red wings fan it’s was a tragedy that they didn’t make the playoffs especially after those last two games against Montreal! Not saying they would’ve beat the rangers but I doubt they would’ve been swept like the caps were! Next season will be exciting for sure and they will definitely make the playoffs and advance in them! LGRW!

What is scary about the Wings is how bad that defense still is beyond Seider and possibly Edvinsson although he is just a rookie. I don't expect the Wings to make the playoffs again this season unless Yzerman can bring in a legit top 4 defenseman or two.
They almost made it last year with an even worse defense. But I agree tho I would've liked to have seen them pickup a top 4 RHD this offseason
@@andrewj72 Unless Edvinsson comes in and has a great season, their defense is not better than last year. Wings didn't improve much from last season. Only way Wings make the playoffs is if some of the playoff teams from last year completely fall off which i don't think will happen.
Then you have teams like the Devils who improved their defense and goaltending which was their main issues. Ottawa got a true #1 starting goalie although i'm not sure about their coach. Caps added a bunch this off-season. I think making the playoffs got harder than last season and the Wings didn't improve enough imo.
@@dcz2899 Yeah I would imagine the cutoff is higher this year, maybe closer to 95 points compared to 91 last year. I’m with you on New Jersey they should be back in. Can’t speak much on Ottawa or Washington since I only watched a handful of their games so I’ll leave that to them. As for the wings themselves as someone who watched almost every game last season I think they’ll improve next year. Will that result in playoffs idk since it won’t be as easy this time.

@@moappleseider1699 Are they a great team? No but they added Dubois at center which was a weakness last season and they added Chychrun and Roy on defense. They should be able to compete for a playoff spot especially if Ovechkin doesn't have another horrible season. Like the Pens, they are just trying to make the playoffs as long as Crosby/Ovechkin are still playing. After that, both will need major rebuilds.
Keys for the Wings to make the playoffs. 1. Larkin stays healthy. He has to play in 75 games minimum. 2. Defense has to be better. Petry sucked last year, Maata wasn't as good as the previous season, and Seider and Edvinsson have to play like season veterans. 3. Goaltending. Lyon really isn't a #1 goalie, although he did have a good season being forced into that spot. Talbot at 37 can't play more than 35 to 40 games. He really dropped off at the end of last year. Then there's Husso. SMH on him. He can't be as bad as he was the last 2 years. This may be his last shot at showing the NHL what he can do (or can't). He's a free agent at the end of the year, and unless he really has a great year ( or at least better stats .900+ save %), he will probably be let go by Yzerman.
There you go. Healthy Larkin, defense, and goaltending. All the top teams are based on that. Best player performing, top defense, and solid goalie.
You said that they will take another step towards the playoffs this year? There are no more steps towards the playoffs. Last season they missed the playoffs by a tiebreaker! If they make a net improvement this year, no matter how slightly, then they will be a playoff team.

They shot themselves in the foot last season by going on 2 7+ game losing streaks during the season and finishing the last month or so of the season like 6-12 If they win atleast like a few games or so They literally should have been in the playoffs no problem. how did it get worse? im so tired of people not actually looking at stats. ghost, good on pp, absolutely abysmal as a defensemen. walman was so bad defensively that he was healthy scratched by the end of last season. both gone. this season they get a full season of edvinson, gustofson just as good offensively as ghost, but actually good in the d zone as well. they got better defensively not worse.
Their defense is bottom 10 and the offense got worse, looks like the Sens and Sabres will be better gonna be another challenge to get a wc spot.
If they don't get an all star defensive d- man it will be for not larry Murphy and Nikolas Lindstrom and we still have no big man who can protect and lay someone out with a punch and sider is not that he needs to lift weights.

@@Hawkeyegaming12 The only glaring problem is defense and that can be handled through free agency and trade. Actually we really don't know how the defense will respond to the situation so it could be alright. If you don't think they got better offensively and in net you aren't looking at it objectively. Talbot with Lyon as backup is not bad at all. Our top 6 is definitely better, and our bottom 6 is pretty good. We still don't know which rookies might make it into the lineup either.

@@Hawkeyegaming12 It's gonna depend on several things including teams in the division and the conference not being as good which is a long shot for most of those teams. They need Ottawa, Buffalo, and New Jersey to still have problems, while also hoping the Pens, Flyers, Caps, and Boston/Tampa to also fall off a bit. Also Larkin has to stay healthy. This guy isn't wrong. The Wings are a different team when Larkin is in the lineup. The Wings two long losing streaks last season were when Larkin was injured. If not for those skids the Wings not only make the playoffs last year but they probably have home ice advantage in the first round.

Honestly " scary" this statement is a bit much.. yeah maybe they will challenge for a playoff spot but there far from cup contenders. And Tarasenko and Kane are definitely ahead of there prime. Not to mention Talbot is famous for an above average regular season followed by an under performed Post season. I don't see him as an improvement by much. And the top off all that is there any division that has Florida, Boston, and Toronto. With that being said at best they might challenge for a wild card but good luck getting through Florida or New York in the first round so by my account they're definitely not scary
Yzerman has been a disappointment. He was hired to be special and hes been anything but. Special doesnt go 6 years without making the playoffs. As much as i hear about how great hes drafted, raymond, seider, and hopefully edvinsson are the only ones that have proven to be legit NHL players. Also has never had a legitimate goalie. Love cossa and augustine but theyre both a few years away and we shouldn’t have to wait 9 years to see that. I could go on and on

You mention our 3 best draft picks by him, but what you’ve overlooked is we have 5 NHL ready prospects playing in the minors or overseas. To name them, Albert Johansson, ASP, MBN, Marco Kasper, and Nate Danielson. All guys should be serviceable and good NHLers. You mention Cossa and Augustine, two projected elite level NHL starting goalies who, in a few years time, could wind up being the best goalie tandem the NHL has seen in quite some time. To say Yzerman has done nothing special, while he brings in Kane, Tarasenko, Compher, and traded for a 30/40 goal guy in Debrincat (who we got for virtually nothing), is an absolutely absurd statement. Meanwhile he drafts our number 1 defenseman, a first line winger who has the potential to put up 100+ points a season, Edvinsson (who some teams had as the best defenseman in the 2021 draft), and a offensive phenom defenseman in ASP. Look at what he was left with in 2019, and I’d say we look a lot better than Frans Nielsen, Filpulla, Abdelkater, AA, DeKeyser (WHO WAS OUR 1D FOR A MINUTE!!!!!), De La Rose, Ehn, and Jonatan Ericsson.
