  • Are you planning your vacation in Cancun, but you want to stay downtown for reasonable price? This hotel might be just right for you. It is not an all inclusive resort, but you will have a comfortable base for your explorations.

Nice review. Can you recommend a chichen itza tour that picks up there? Thanks

Thank you very much, I have a video about the Chichen Itza tour: th-cam.com/video/IUf_p_eazDk/w-d-xo.html we booked it through Viator and the end company was called BAKTUN. Here's the Viator link: www.viator.com/tours/Cancun/Chichen-Itza-and-Cenote-amazing-tour-from-Cancun/d631-26400P45

I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO delighted to travel to Cancun. The hotel is attractive and clean. However, I got the worst treatment my first morning here by the "bellboy" Mateo who put me in a cab as a rep of hotel, with a non-English speaking gentleman by the name of Elyeseo. I was to be taken to a SPECIFIC pharmacy which I was already in contact with, had written the full address, landmarks nearby, two phone numbers, with no stone unturned. Google pulled up the direct and easy route. Nevertheless, these two PREDATORS began to take me to places where they had financial kick backs from. $20 prescriptions were $300. If I hadn't already been in contact with my pharmacist, I may have buckled by the incredible pressure placed on me. I insisted that the driver took me to the pharmacy originally agreed to, but he drove me to yet ANOTHER seedy location where he had connections and his behavior became extremely aggressive. So much so, that I jumped out of the car and tried to figure out how to run from this guy, who went by the name Elyeseo. I called the hotel and asked to speak with a manager and was told by the man who answered (who sounded likenMateo) that I would NOT BE ALLOWED TO SPEAK TO ANY MANAGER DESPITE THE FACT THAT I WAS A GUEST. Then I asked for HIS name and he refused and said it was for his own safety and privacy and he didn't owe me anything. The call disconnected. I couldn't figure out where the hotel was and I was too weak to withstand the intense heat. I was forced back into the car and I began to fear for my life. Mateo and Elyeseo were on the cell phone constantly--and speaking in Spanish the whole time. The conversation sounded more and more aggressive and I was terrified. I called back home to family in Texas and they were screaming at the driver--but he didn't care, he knew they were too far away to do anything. I considered jumping out of the car again but my blood pressure was through the roof and my blood sugar was falling through the floor. The driver heard me crying loudly to my family for help and Mateo told him to FINALLY take me to the pharmacy initially requested. I got out of the car and began vomiting repeatedly, I could barely stand up and I was completely traumatized. Benjamin, the pharmacist, helped me so much. I told him and the entire staff how terrified I was but they didn't really want to get involved. I got what I needed but collapsed so they got a chair and water for me and let me rest about 5 minutes before taking me back to this driver. The drive back to the WYNDHAM GARDEN DOWNTOWN CANCUN HOTEL WAS HORRIBLE. He wouldn't cool the car, I'm on the phone with family begging for help...but they were helpless. All I could do was call out buildings we were passing to TRY to give them information to give to police if something happened to me. The driver got me to hotel and drove me deep UNDER the hotel in TOTAL ISOLATION where Mateo and Elyseo began to HIT ME AS I LAID IN THE BACK SEAT!!!! I kept screaming "inferma, inferma" but they didn't care. They tried to take my money, my purse and began to aggressively handle me. I could tell things were about to get deadly. I looked for an escape route from this dark dungeon and spotted an elevator. I tried to reach it but Mateo wouldn't allow me to take it. He forced me to a seeming endless staircase in the blazing sun as i tried to drag my lifeless body in the broad sun up an endless amount of steps before I saw the front of the hotel. I RAN IN AND BEGGED LOUDLY FOR A MANAGER. In all of the chaos, Mateo began speaking in Spanish to management to discredit me and the horror of what I was trying to convey. I got so upset that I passed out. Management helped to pour liquids into my mouth as I lay on the floor. They eventually got me in a wheelchair and I sobbed LOUDLY in fear and trauma. They helped me get into my room and ordered food for me as I vomited repeatedly and mercilessly throughout the bathroom. The vomiting has been going on for hours now and I have no energy. I've been hostage in this hotel room the entire day now. PEOPLE, THERE ARE REAL PREDATORS IN CANCUN WORKING AT THESE HOTELS!!!! TRUST NO ONE! Claudia, one of the managers and Maria, another manager stayed with me. I've spent a great deal of money to find myself afraid to walk downstairs of the hotel, to go outside, or even to visit the city I so desired to visit... THIS HAS BEEN MY FIRST DAY HERE. THIS IS MY FIRST TRIP TO CANCUN. I REALLY BELIEVED THESE MEN WERE GOING TO SERIOUSLY HARM ME OR KILL ME FOR NOT HELPING THEM MAKE THEIR ILLEGAL MONEY AT THE SHADY PHARMACIES THEY TOOK ME TO. I wonder how many Americans have gone "missing" because of this kind of criminal ring here??? I thank God that my family is not grieving my death tonight. Just oh my God. The prayers of loving family and friends. The hotel has offered to move me to a sister hotel which is literally in the same parking lot. I don't feel safe... TO BE CONTINUED. Just a girl from Texas who wanted a short vacation...

OMG! im so sorry to hear that 😮. It's absolutely shocking - it could easily be a horror movie. Im so glad you are got out of there❤️! I went to Cancun with my boyfriend who speaks Portuguese so he understood Spanish quite well. Without Spanish it is surprisingly hard in such a touristic place as Cancun. I used to travel solo a lot and it is no doubt more difficult since you have nobody to lean on.
We were not using hotel taxis, since they offered the ride sometimes for triple the Uber offered. Uber is not exactly legal in Cancun, that's why it can't stop directly at the hotel. What we did was ordering uber to the car sales place down the road because if we called it to the hotel the taxi drivers chased it away. I am quite used to taxis being a mafia from my other trips, that's why I trust Uber, Grab and apps like this more.
If it's your first solo trip abroad, try to plan your activities through the internet with all reviews and guarantees to prevent some local travel agency ripping you off. They see tourists as walking money bags, the people working in tourism will not be your friends and if they can, they will ask for ridiculous prices and charge you extra. We were thinking that next time we might rent a car to be more free and less dependent on their taxis.
What do you plan on doing after you get better? Maybe I can advise on safe options...

Great review Jana! I prefer the "small" hotels to the all-inclusive ones...They have more character. This particular one looked decent for the price. Thank you sharing your travel vlogs and letting us mind travel with you :)

Thanks a lot Lina, I really like simple hotels without too many bells and whistles when I just go there to sleep. The more practical, the better. The Mexico videos are to follow😉
