    I have never understood how this movie was considered heretical or blasphemous. It seems to me the most pro-Jesus piece of media since the New Testament.

      It was a masterpiece in itself. However, i was expecting more from an actor like William dafoe.

      I believe the criticism came more from the Orthodox Christian side, who shunned it for implying that Jesus could be tempted since they could not accept that the spirit of God himself could possibly be tempted as it goes against Christian traditions.

    • @marinlataille1043
      @marinlataille1043 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Technically it's a heretical movie because it pictures a different interpretation of the christian faith that isn't approved by the christian clerical power. But it's not a reason to guilt it.

      It was heretical because the book was heretical. Its author, Kazatzakis was excommunicated by the Greek orthodox church.

    In this movie they say Judas was commanded by Jesus to betray, in the passion Judas betrayed Jesus on his own free will (which Jesus predicted that Judas would do just that) and his betrayal was fueled by his greed for money.

    • @petrstanovsky7648
      @petrstanovsky7648 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      That's official version, but I think this version makes more sense. Without Judas betrayal there wouldn't be no ultimate sacrifice, it make more sense, if this was his task.

      Judas betrayed Jesus because Judas was a zealot who thought the messiah would be a warrior who would defeat the romans so became disillusioned with Jesus approach. Or there is the gnostic view that Judas was the only true disciple who knew Jesus sacrifice was necessary for salvation and was willing to take on the burden of his name being scorned. Or the traditional view that he was just a scumbag.

      Paul was definitely not present at the events and apparently is based on his visions
      In fact it is most likely that Paul fabricated everything including his alleged visits to James and Peter and John

Rather than accusing those appreciating the artistry and the attempt to find the humanity in his savior, perhaps you should consider that Jesus was, in fact, a man.
