I’ll never forget when the 1985 Seville came out. Didn’t really care for it then. Now I’m saying WHAT WAS I THINKING??? What a gorgeous piece of history!!!
The glass plastic windshield was a somewhat experimental windshield that GM made standard on it’s Cadillac Seville Elegante in 1984. In Early 85 they made it standard on all Seville models. By the end of 1987 GM ended installation of the windshield on all of its models. The concept was a plastic lining over the glass windshield that was designed to encapsulate the glass fragments in a crash reducing injury to occupants who would come in contact with the flying glass. GM produced roughly 210,000 vehicles with the windshield before halting their use. GM cited high warranty costs and high replacement costs for customers as the reason for ending their use.
Yea I have that on my 1985 Elegante, it’s on the inside of the windshield, my Elegante is super clean but the inner windshield plastic is now starting to come off and looks horrible! I’m in the process of trying to rip it off. Does any one have any pointers?
I know ys can't get em all but Euroasian Bob just showed a 09 Grand Marquis, Mint, out of Indiana. This Caddy is nice! No reflection on you but i prefer the trunk lid without the faux tire.
My Mom had this Body Style & 1985 & 2 Tone. Cream over that Exact Blue with Cream interior. Mom Passed in 2004. Over the Years Mom Drove Less & Less & it just Sat in Garage. We Finally Sold it to a Friend of My Mom & it had 19,150 Miles.
It is one of the last Seville badge to offer bench front seats with a column shifter. When it came to the next model, they were shifting to the bucket seat models leaving the bench as an option. I love column shifter vehicles. The glass is impregnated with a rubberized plastic so that if it is damaged, the glass isn't supposed to shatter into pieces, the glass will shatter, but stay in one piece.
How easy/hard is it to remove that spare trunk hump? This gaudy stuff doesn't do it for me. I wonder if the paint under it is damaged? Or else it would just need a lid repaint. And that grille cap would have to go as well. I wonder if they had to drill into the hood for that, or if the holes would be covered by replacing the original hood edge trim.
@@bml33 My guess is the car is pretty much shot after adding that crap. This wouldn't be a concern of mine though as I'd never consider buying it anyway, it's been "molested". Most cars like these have seen too many days in da 'hood and you'll find even more issues to contend with.
That Seville is one of the few cars that I would consider if I didn't already have my dream car, my 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible in dark blue with white leather. Convertibles have always been my car of choice over any other body style, but the Seville is one sedan that I might consider one day.
Nice pick Anthony. Those hump back Sevilles have some nostalgic memories for me. My Dad had an 85 and I loved it. I actually just got myself an 84 Seville.
Another reason why I love to watch this channel is because of the old school caddies are bringing back some great memories of my grandmother, aunts and uncles who had these kind of caddies that are no longer with us...😎

He was racing along at 20 miles an hour on hi way 80 with everyone honking at him. This car was an engineering marvel everything was always falling off! It is a piece of art.
Super excited that you have a bustle back Seville. I have a 1981 Elegante in the same colour. They are beautiful cars. Can’t wait for you to add your magic touch fix and prepare to this car for sale. That chrome tip exhaust must go and the high mounted stop light too. Looks terrible
i really like that you show the things that even the best of old cars need to bring these beauties up to "snuff" so to speak. Then you fix the issues so the new owner has the best experience buying and driving away with the car. Kudos to a professional business.
In 1982, I was 13 years old. I was crushing hard on this girl in my class at the private school I attended. Every morning before school started we had to stand around outside, so I would make note of the different cars fellow students arrived in. My girl and her sister were brought to school in a two-tone light green over dark green bustleback Seville every morning by their Mom. I remember watching her get out, with her rabbit fur coat on, every morning. I think I loved the car as much as I did her. It was so different looking, but always reminded me of those big 1930s' Sedans with the long hoods and the actual "trunk" in the rear.
Great story, well told! I feel like I can relate to this with a similar story. Excuse me, I'm from Rimini italy have a question about your past work in Clark street. I have a Seville of 1981 4.100, moongrey Met with leather burgundy interior and the fake cabriolet roof. Where Is the chassis Number? I have a plate under the windshield, another plate on the left over the left beam, a Number stamp on the right over the right beam. And on the chassis? For me Is important because the Rimini motor division want to punch a new Number called office Number into the trunk and the same behind the rear left wheel. Thanks
Remembering a good dear family friend my folks age who had this car in a marroon and silver and year my grandpa passed his driving over to my grandma's in it to give me the "Preppy Handbook" to cheer me during that 1980 Christmas time. He always had a new lease it seemed his working years. Great car and video.
Ouch about the Corvair comment! My '90 Brougham d' Elegance is parked in front of my '62 Corvair Monza sedan, and next to my '61 Corvair 95 Rampside! I love Corvairs and Cadillacs! This Slant Back Seville is awesome! What a gorgeous example! Looks so elegant driving down the road!
Congrats on your new purchase. It will be interesting to see once the upgrades and work is done. This Seville generation may have had its issues, but it was quite the elegant car.
Love the Cruella De Ville reference... her car in the cartoon reminded me of this gen Seville since the first time I saw it as a kid in the 90s (born 1986).
Haven't seen one of those in years. My uncle had one gray and Blue one with the moon roof. Beautiful car. It was the most expensive Cadillac had at the time. My uncle taught me how to drive in it On Pond Street in Billerica when they lived on Moosewood st. He just passed away recently 😢
Oh wow! Beautiful! My Dad always wanted one of those. Side note, back in the day I had a 1980 Chrysler Cordova same two tone blue with blue crushed velour interior ❤❤❤ Nice car!!! And Nice Seville!!!🥰🥰
I like those, and its interesting to see one (haven't seen one on the road in a long, long time). Looks like a well cared for example (interior is beautiful). If it was mine, that horrible "Continental kit" would be gone immediately. Looks ridiculous, makes it almost impossible to open the trunk with the key, and puts stress on the trunk shocks. I think I would also ditch that aftermarket grill (its not terrible, but its not great either) and go back to original. Return it to stock, new tires, new headliner, fix a few little bits like the passenger front ashtray, and put her up for sale. Please get rid of that "Continental kit"!!!
I absolutely love Sevilles! They are so beautiful and unique. This one has to be the nicest one I've ever seen. Papa Bear looked good driving it 👌. Great video Anthony!
I never disliked these, although a lot of folks don’t like the bustle back. The cool thing about these is they came standard with some items that would be extra on the full size. I’ve always loved the dash look.
The inside of the windshield has a plastic coating . GM thought it was a wise design to keep the windshield from shattering and getting in the eyes of the occupants in a event of an accident. I hated doing a state inspection on them. You need a plastic razor to remove the inspection sticker when changing it. At least you used to here in Texas. Thankfully we don't do stickers for inspection anymore.

Hi Anthony! Well, first things first. I know, everybody's got an opinion, but, I would remove the god-awful fake spare tire thingy and fill the holes & repaint the trunk lid. Then I'd remove that chrome tailpipe extension and make sure it's an OEM tailpipe - probably with the resonator all one assembly. The grill isn't too over the top so you could leave that I guess. The car is nice otherwise! Supposedly if you treat the car nice and don't beat in it especially when it cold, the 4.1L engine will last and is fairly durable. By 1985 most of the kinks were worked out of them and it's got the latest audio system... I'm saying all this 2:03 into it so I'm gonna get back to you now...
Anthony, amazing find. I had an '84 Seville Roadster (barn find) with 33k original miles on it, and I just sold it last November. These cars are so smooth and silent on the highway; I couldn't believe it was 40 years old! Keep up the great work, both you and Papa Bear.
From what I understand, those color coded caps at the edge of the instrument panel where it meets with the door panel came in different sizes on the assembly line to ensure there was a uniform gap between the two.
Happy 51st Papa Bear! Anthony you really should look up Rare Classic Cars and Automotive History on TH-cam, the gentleman Adam Wade from Detroit has one of these and has a multi video documentary on this bodystyle including in person interviews with Wayne Kady the man who designed this car personally as well as the beloved Brougham and all the other good Cadillacs. I do not like that continental kit personally, but my 85 Toronado Caliente also has a period aftermarket third taillight! The E Body is definitely tight and short inside compared to the C body! Beautiful car another absolute jewel! Enjoy the weekend! EDIT - I believe adjusted for 2022 inflation these cost somewhere around 100,000 in todays money. Back then a Caprice Classic sedan, or also a C/K Silverado either one equipped with V8 automatic ac power and appearance options was just at 10000 maxed out this was like a 25,000+ car base price.
In 85 Seville costs approximately 25 to $26000 brand new I had an 80 or an 81 so that I can't remember it was white With white'with a blue - he had the 468 engine never had any problems with it I just connected it on the valve cover kept it for a couple years bought an 83 Riviera convertible now I have an 84 Riviera convertible in Kristine condition had a 10 years it's parked along my 2020 CT6 premium luxury in the garage I love cadillax would like to find a 79 Eldorado because they had the 350 Engine but I'm kind of giving up on cars I'm giving up I've had close to 75 and I'm 74 years old Hey enjoy your Videos and I share your passion for cars
One of my neighbors had one in gray/silver for many years - they loved that car! At the time I was conflicted on the bustle back - I had preferred the cleaner 1st generation Seville. With the passage of time I now appreciate the unique design although I wish they had done something different with the side trim rather than just having it droop right at the back.
One I loved body style as a kid was born in 1985 but got to see them in 1990s really clean I'm surprised about this ones condition an my favorite color
I have an 85 Seville in Cranberry with the plum interior with 12k miles and it’s one of my favorite cars ever!!! If you are getting new tires, I want those, if not dry rotted
The Windshield was specially treated from the Factory so your not supposed to put anything on the windshield because you can cut the plastic film on it! The horns were standard with 4 trumpet horns, their different notes 🎶! I love these era of Seville and this is a great example of a Cadillac Seville!
I rented one of these in the late '80's for a short trip to LA. Wow, such a boulevard cruiser! Full leather interior too. Very slow though--tail end of the malaise era. Styling a bit feminine too. But certainly an icon of the time.
These were really fantastic cars a road great they really did my friend had one and it did not have a fantastic amount of engine power but it was extremely comfortable I used to get the ride in the backseat I feel like a big wheel millionaire it was extremely comfortable and the car was well done all the way around and I also thought it was very sharp
This is one of those body styles that people loved or hated. My aunt hated it and I loved it. My uncle (aunts brother) had one when I was 11 and I thought it was one of the prettiest cars I’d ever seen. My aunt had the next generation an ‘87.
I remember standing around a new one back then. About ten of us half older the other half younger men like myself at the time. The older crew did not like it at all. The younger liked it and wanted to buy one too.
I really love those model Seville even as a kid I thought they looked awesome. From that sticker and highway department study it sounds like laminated glass. A difference being it also had a coating on the inside of the glass not just in the center for strength. I'm thinking something to do with noise possibly. That or they were trying to make it sound more technological. I did come across a highway department survey including 1985 Seville's oddly enough. It seems like that glass was on most Seville's as they mention some in the test group could have had standard glass. BY the look of those ash trays the owner may have kept a small amount of water in them, which was a thing.
I’ll never forget when the 1985 Seville came out. Didn’t really care for it then. Now I’m saying WHAT WAS I THINKING??? What a gorgeous piece of history!!!
Back when it debuted, it looked even more classy and elegant next to Ford's cheap knock off of it called the "Continental".

Back then a Caprice Classic sedan, or also a C/K Silverado either one equipped with V8 automatic ac power and appearance options was just at 10000 maxed out this was like a 25,000+ car base price.
Very good looking Bustle Back. Love the color and the faux spare tire on the trunk deck lid.
It had the 368 cubic inch engine.
What a great car! Why can't they make something luxurious like that nowadays. Nice find
Stunning car, would love this
What a beautiful car amazing I love the cloth seats
awesome 1985 cadillac deville
Wow! What a blast from the past and such a sweet ride! I liked this generation and the previous onw as well!
Now that you’ve given us a close up look at the CHMSL it’s obviously not from the factory, gotta go!
7:58 - You turned it off - LOL - That was my FAVORITE song - Fleetwood Mac, Everywhere ........I wanna be with you everywhere
One I loved body style as a kid was born in 1985 but got to see them in 1990s really clean I'm surprised about this ones condition an my favorite color
Love it. Keep the grill and the rear tire. All she needs is a sunroof and a vinyl top. Add real wire wheels too.
She's a beautiful car!! Would love to get an all black one. My late father owned an all black one.
Windshield: weight save instead of 2 layer with antishatter film GM omitted inner glass layer.
I have always wanted that model of Seville
The light blue is called Gossamer blue. Beautiful color!!!
I see one sitting for months with a for sale sign in my town. Not garaged in a public street.
Also it is the red color.
Beautiful Timepiece 🩵💙🩵💙🩵💙
This is one of those body styles that people loved or hated. My aunt hated it and I loved it. My uncle (aunts brother) had one when I was 11 and I thought it was one of the prettiest cars I’d ever seen. My aunt had the next generation an ‘87.
Happy 51💍 pappy😘👍🏻
Thank you Pal. Papa 🐻
I've always liked this gen of Seville.
Still capable of rolling up to the country club. Throw some golf clubs in the trunk and you are set. ☮️💙
I remember standing around a new one back then. About ten of us half older the other half younger men like myself at the time. The older crew did not like it at all. The younger liked it and wanted to buy one too.
It's funny, this car always made me think of Cruella Devile too! 😂
Look at that dash!!! Oh Baby!!
A rich farmer neighbor of ours bought a Seville diesel, new. It was quite the car back then for luxury.
I loved the fast back 80s Seville.
Beautiful car can't wait to see how much it is
Great find! Great colors
Good looking Cadillac!
Beautiful.
Yes! A horn test! Didn’t sound like trumpets though
I love those Sevilles
That is a sweet 🧁 85' Seville! Papa 🐻 was really jumping at the bit 😁🎉
Beautiful interior and color combination. Ghastly rear end
Best generation of Seville in my opinion. I wouldn’t have the faux Continental hump though.
