REVIVAL 1972 - When the Holy Spirit stirred the schools of Singapore

  • 50 years ago, in July 1972, something remarkable happened in Singapore. A mighty move of the Holy Spirit. And it started in our schools.
Not just one school. Simultaneously, in many schools. Anglo-Chinese School. Raffles Girls’ School. Raffles Institution. Swiss Cottage. Dunearn Tech. Crescent Girls’ School. And more.
This move of the Spirit spread from the schools, to the churches, to the marketplace, to the masses. Revival.
Hear the first-hand account of school children as they gave their lives to Jesus and were baptised in the Holy Spirit. Witness how their childlike faith inspired church and marketplace leaders.
And consider: Could such a move of God take place today?

Psalm 133:1-2 How good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity!
Vs 2 It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard, running down on Aaron's beard, down on the collar of his rope.
I was surprised to find SINGAPOREAN Christians sharing their new found faith in Jesus, just amazing.God Bless Singapore.May the love of God shares upon in our heart by the Holy Spirit, in the body of Christ. MARANATHA.

It is said in the bible by prophet that God is pleased by peoples who keep recognize or see the works of God. In the Holy Spirit crusades/revival events like this, though it happened decades ago we can see and recognize what God has done through the Holy Spirit touch to the peoples : signs and wonders' experiences of peoples who came the the crusades. We greatly apreciate you and your effort to share this. God (Yahwe Elohim Jehova Rafa) Lord Jesus (Jeshua) Christ (Messiah) bless you and the peoples of Singapores. Hallelujah.Amen.

I am an ACS Barker boy but from Malaysia... and always wanted to know more about the clock tower revival. Thank you for making this documentary. Now I am wondering if there is a link between Singapore revival in 1972 and the Bario Revival that happened amongst students also in 1973.. Threre are similarities in both revivals but the two locations are quite world apart at that time

Its never too late. Its a commandment, no negotiations. We are to love one another, cross denomination lines and to love fellow Believers from different types of Churches and cultures. Initiate a Revival.

God did many signs and wonders when he was alive. Same with the Disciples. Yet many did not believe.
What I truly pray for is that God allows them to meet him. That he opens the eyes of those that seek or even those that do not.

Revival cannot be invoked nor replicated by human efforts. Perhaps God moved that way in 1972 to bring people to Christ, but today many people are trying to fabricate the same experience and end up in error. Christ and his word is more than enough for us, to walk in the Spirit and faith.
Unfortunately, Charismatics confine the term, "Power of the Spirit" to a box containing Charismatic experiences only, thus undermining the work of the Spirit that is done through daily transformation by God's word.
Many would "feel alive" in the presence of great music and stage lights, but will fall asleep at proper verse by verse bible exposition, I wouldn't call that a revival.
If we read God's word and is convicted and transformed, is that not the "Power of the Spirit"? If God gives an experience, that is because God's chose to move, not because you prayed hard enough.

Singapore's Charismatic Renewal of the 1970s and ... - When Revival Comes
It also disturbed the mainline church leaders. By the end of 1972, the number of students who embraced the baptism of the Holy Spirit numbered some 200. From this epicentre, however, would come a huge tidal wave that would spread to the mainstream churches in Singapore and make deep, lasting impact.
I had read of the revivals around the world in times past - the Welsh Revival, Pyongyang Revival, Argentinian Revival, Azuza Street Revival, Hebrides Revival etc. So I suppose my question was about revival in my own nation, Singapore. I wanted to know because I wanted to know what would be the price worth paying for revival.
Then I fell upon the book “Unfolding His story: The Story of the Charismatic Movement in Singapore” by Georgie and Galven Lee, a father and son team.
The book chronicles how God moved upon the believers in Singapore in the 1970s with a Holy Spirit outpouring. I am so grateful for this book because, to me, it is a story of God’s faithfulness through the generations. In this particular case, it filled a missing piece for me on how many in an earlier generation met the Lord.
2018 would be a significant year for Singapore - the 40th year of Billy Graham’s word to our nation, that we would be an Antioch to Asia.
2022 , the main stream denominations churches are in Ladiocean lukewarmness, neither hot nor cold for the Lord Jesus Christ.

The younger cohort calling themselves as 2nd or 3rd gen Christians, spoke about the desire of the revival of the Holy Spirit to come into their being, even stronger than the 1972 revival and unite them as One Church.
While I firmly believe the Holy Spirit works in mysterious ways and without borders, it amaze me to say this - wasn’t the revival of 1972 lead to subsequent spouting of new churches like FCBC (1986) and NCC (1984) away from mainstream, lead by charismatic leaders blessed with oratory fire and charisma?
Although the desire of the current 2nd/3rd gen Christian’s for a unified “Oneness” church is to be applauded, one things for certain - catholic, it seems, is not part of this unity, with neither mentioned nor featured in the video. It’s barely less than 7 months ago that the year-long Catholic bicentennial (i.e. 200 years) celebrations in Singapore ended.
It seems, and this exclusion will always likely to be, a stance among the non-communal Christian brethren from the Catholic community in our land, which is sad to note, given the yearly Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that was observed from 18 to 25 Jan globally and in Singapore.
Is this stance taken to ignore the old guard of the local Christian faith so that a delineate line could be drawn to differentiate catholic from Christian community?
Just as John 17:21 was quoted in the video that God’s never intended His church to be separated, it would be useful for fellow brethren to know that the word “catholic” actually means “all-embracing, inclusive, universal” rather than denominational nature which denote fractions or exclusivity from another. Historically, isn’t the current “Christian” coming from split of the origin community of faith in Christ ?
When a brethren pastor spoke about his time of Christian marketplace fellowship outreach in 1980s/90s, he also envisioned the merger of 2 streams in Word of God and outpouring of the Holy Spirit for the future church.
Actually this “2 streams” has already taken roots in Catholic Mass with Liturgy of the Word and apex in Liturgy of the Eucharist with humble receiving of the body of the Lord In persona Christi, not through Grab delivery service. Humble hearts in praise & worship deemed suffice without pyrotechnics/live band to satisfy visuals & auditory sensory of the laity. When dismissed to “go in peace glorifying the Lord with our lives”, the community is sent forth as witness to evangelise thru deeds for the work of extending God’s call to the whole world.
All this makes me wonder what my brethren bros & sis have missed in the search for God.
Should your search ends with the realisation of returning to the fold of His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church, would you have allow the Holy Spirit to lead you into this unity, or would ego & pride of own making dictate to remain unitedly separate?

    The Gospel:
    Plain and
    Simple
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent
beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your
minds should be corrupted from the simplicity
that is in Christ.” - 2 Corithians 11:3
Ask someone today if they are saved and
you will most likely hear responses like these:
“I have accepted Jesus into my heart.” Or “I
have made him Lord of my life.” “I’ve been
baptized.” “I said a prayer.” Sounds all good
and churchy don’t it; but it is difficult to de-termine whether or not a person actually
knows the gospel that saves them. These use￾less phrases don’t describe a thing about what
the gospel is and has left a devastating effect
of people not knowing what it is that they are
saved from nor how they are saved; which
leaves a more serious effect of people ques￾tioning their salvation.
Let’s not muddy the simplicity of salva￾tion that is in Christ with vague church
sounding phrases that do not communicate
anything. But rather present God’s word with
clarity and assuredness. So here is the gospel:
    plain and simple.
Sin was passed upon all men by one man
Adam, and death is a consequence of this sin
(Rom 5:12). Mankind has an eternal destiny of
condemnation and wrath - Hell - because of
this sin (Rom 6:23). No matter what good
works one might do we are still found sinners
in the sight of our Creator God. And all un￾righteousness and those who follow get in￾dignation and wrath. We cannot be found
righteous for by God’s law we are found sin￾ners (Rom 3:19-20). If we have broken even
one law we are found guilty.
It is for this reason of not being able to
create our own righteousness and being born
in a sinful flesh that we need a savior (Titus
3:5). Christ is that Savior, God manifested in
the flesh, sinless, died in our place on a cross
2000 years ago. Taking upon him the wrath
and judgement that was intended for us sin￾ners. And it is through his bloodshed, burial,
and resurrection on our behalf that we are
able to have peace with God and forgiveness
of our sins (1 Cor 15:1-4, Col 3:14). This good
news is unto all but only those that believe in
it are made righteous in Christ (Romans
    3:22).
It is then after we have heard this good
news of Christ’s righteousness available to us freely, that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit
and we are now part of Christ’s body the
    church (Eph 1:13)
There is nothing that we need to do, no
good works that are required, and no bad
works that can separate us from our new po￾sition in Christ (Romans 8:35-39).
Faith and belief in this information from
    God’s word is the gospel.
The gospel is not accepting Jesus into your
heart. The gospel is not making him lord of
your life, it is not saying a prayer and it is not
    being baptized with water.
So next time someone asks you if you are
saved. Give them the clear assured answer
“Yes! And let me tell you why

Jesus was baptized in water in obedience. And the Apostles baptized new believers too. Subsequently then to be filled with the Holy Spirit. Is God constraining us with this process, no but that appears to be the normal process.
