  • Getting to know the Gretsch guitar lineup has been a joy for all of us, but their Streamliner series - and this Junior Jet specifically - has truly shocked us with the value Gretsch has packed into their lower-priced guitars. Larry took this one for a test drive that turned into a marathon. Listen to the intro and then take a guess at the price of this guitar before Larry spills the beans

    I love mine
I did change the pots though
The stock ones were quite small
These guitars are a real value at that price
    No regrets at all

I bought the 2215 with a P90 and added a bridge with individual saddles. It's a wonderful guitar at any price!

I'm with you on these guitars. Saw a white one for the first time in the used rack at GC. For $200, it was a no brainer. Weight was perfect, balance was great, rang like a bell, and I really liked the neck profile. It didnt feel skinny at all, but more like a mid 60s chunky C. A lot of younger players might feel the need to go out and upgrade pickups, hardware, etc.. DONT DO IT! This is a well designed guitar, and if set up properly, gives you a great playing and sounding instrument that needs nothing! Be patient, I've been playing for 40 years and wasted a lot of money chasing stuff that wasn't worth chasing, pickups, bridges, etc. Gretsch has just released a new model with a P90 in the neck so you might be able to get a deal on these older models. The prices of LP jrs are absolutely out of control these days, and I agree with the reviewer here, these are in that category and a sleeper pick. Highly recommended.

I agree! I’ve played 45 years now and when young I was to poor to upgrade my guitar. So I would get what I got and played it to death. Today I could swap anything I want but don’t. I have many guitars and they are all stock. I have a Gibson Jr and it is not much better than this guitar shown here if at all.

Hi Larry, I just purchased one of these, just like the one you demo 'ed. Strangely enough, I'm using it for some smooth Jazz songs I'm composing. I have several single coil electrics, and a hollow body with humbuckers; but I wanted a guitar with the Filtertron type pickups.
I'm also like you in the inexpensive guitars search, and I've built several guitars because I didn't like the quality and sound of a lot of the "Name Brand" hyper expensive guitars. This beauty fits beautifully in my collection, both live and studio.

    • @finnmacdiarmid3250
      @finnmacdiarmid3250 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

It can handle high gain and delay beautifully too, not quite a sound like it anywhere. The neck plays absolutely fantastic, you can really feel the vibration in your fingertips, smooth jazz on half tone 3/4 volume takes me back to the first time I heard Kool and the Gang.

Just picked one of these up and i'm amazed at the quality for the insanely low price...i plan on replacing the tuners that's about it. This guitar feels like much higher quality than the Electromatics that cost 3 times more....makes no sense but trust me on this the quality is amazing on this line!

Recently got the version of this with the P90 in the neck for $350, and I have guitars worth $2,000+, so the lower end of what I would say is "high end", but I would recommend these guys over ANY epiphone currently on any guitar shop wall, even the $700 range. Gretsch did some awesome work with these guys. Like you said, it's where they chose to cut corners that sets these apart, the feel and playability, the frets, the sound, no sacrifices there.

  • @poodlebites69

I know it’s all very subjective but-I’ve always wanted a Gretsch but never found one that suited my ears and playing style-until now. I have some really nice guitars but I plugged this Jet Jr. for fun and was immediately struck. After a half hour of comparing ( i was there to buy an Epi-339) I bought the Jet. For the price it’s perhaps unbeatable. The only knock would be intonation adjustments and tuners but come on-indeed, shocking quality!

I got this in Vintage White a few months ago. As I have a decent collection of guitars, I decided to tune it to drop C to play along with one of my favorite new songs and I am more than impressed with how it handles the low tension tune. I was skeptical at first, being that it has a compensated wrap around bridge, but I was blown away. It plays better than my IBG Eppi LPC.

Just bought one because I wanted an inexpensive guitar to travel with as I gig and jam a lot in other locations. Was excited after seeing this review and others but after one gig I was so disappointed that I returned the guitar. The problem is that the bridge pickup feeds back constantly at gig volumes and this makes it unusable. I first thought it was a defective pickup but we tried other guitars of the same model and they all did the same thing. The feedback was constant even though the audience told me my volume was too low to be heard. I have been a gigging musician for over 50 years and have owned dozens of guitars and never had this issue with any other solid body guitar.

Just got mine and I can't believe it either. It's a fantastic guitar. I wanted a solid body, although I don't play one often and thought about a Tele but I tool a chance on this and it's amazing. It can go from warm to biting and plays as smooth on can be. Highly recommended and you cannot beat the price. (Note: I usually play an arch top Gretsch for gigs so the solid body is for fun.)

I hate that I tried one of these (well the model with the P90 ) through a crappy solid-state Marshall combo and it really put me in a bad mood because I wanted to love that guitar. It felt okay before I plugged it in, then it sounded awful and the P90 felt like the most low-output pickup I've ever played in my entire 29 years of living.

Try not to fall into the trap thinking guitars aimed at new players won't last long or be good instruments years later. Today some very expensive highly desirable guitars began life many years ago as student guitars. Sure there are plenty of dogs out there in guitar land but there are some real gems too. With manufacturing moving to different woods and using more man made materials, in a few years what we now view as low end instruments may become highly prized because they were constructed using materials no longer available. For example rosewood fretboards have all but disappeared from budget friendly instruments. 🤘
