How to keep happy cows on compost pack.
a. Don't over crowd the dairy animals. stays at recommended square ft per cow or more
b. Monitor the compost pack temperature , if it gets too cold it will get wet.
c. Till it daily to get air down into the compost to maintain the heating process
d. Its easier to maintain the process and cool off the cows by having lots of air blowing across the pack surface. HVLS fans really work for this
It also helps a barn that leaves plenty of light in. The Bitler's chose Wecover Structure for extra light and the bright environment.
The difference between compost pack and bedded pack barns is the bedded pack is not tilled daily. Tilling the bedding daily allows oxygen into the bedding and nature heating occurs which helps break down the manure.
