Hi Kris, I have a Harley Benton SC-550 DeLuxe. I love the way it feel's and the way it look's. I find the sound very muffed's, almost like it's a pillow over the speeker. I "youtube's" and tryed every trick in the book to make the pickups sound brighter and clearer. I sounds ok'ish on a Katana ll 100w, but realy muffel'd on Harley Benton Tube15, and that have a upgraded speeker and get single coil's sound amazing. Can you give me a tip/link to any pickups you would evdvice me to shift to? And If I do, should I shift anything else in the electronincs of the instrument? I like the guitar and don't want to get rid of it, I rather invest some money in it. Thank youfor your work. Regards, Leif
Hey Leif, thanks for the comment! If the guitar's tone is way too dark for your taste I recommend trying different pickup setups. Lower them, raise them up, play a little with the pole pieces. If nothing helps, replace them. Same goes for the pots, capacitor and the switch. If you want really good sounding yet not very expensive pickups, try the Bare Knuckle Boot Camp series humbuckers (Old guard or True grit). As for the electronics, the Mojotone pre-wired stuff are exceptional, but the Allparts parts are also very nice. 500k pots, 22nF cap and Switchcraft toggle switch / jack. That will make a massive difference in tone! Have fun with the guitar! Cheers //Kris
Haha, well if those 26 years of playing don't add up to 10000 hours then I shall be a donkey. A donkey with a Floyd Rose on each leg. 😆 Still, there are at least two parts I'm not 100% happy with in this cover but that's normal. I hope, haha! Hearing Gary early on was one of the few reasons I wanted to get better on guitar. His bends, tone and phrasing were something special and are constant inspiration to this day. 💛 //Kris
