    The real tragedy here is that they got so caught up with disagreeing with Kim that they didn't stop to appreciate how fucking AMAZING Rhea Seehorn is in that scene. That was a "I am the one who knocks" out of 10.

      My best friend's gf had a very similar attitude and approach to me regarding their past suicide attempts and my recent one. "I don't care about you, but I know I love [friend] and you make him feel bad every day. All you care about is what makes you feel better, and not how what you do and say makes others feel. I think you're literally incapable of sympathy or empathy." Shit was a brutal conversation, and this gave me flashbacks. Real, true to life execution of stress, grief, and deep emotional pain. 10/10.

    Jimmy didn't go there to case the place. He did have intentions of getting the job, but remember, Jimmy doesn't like suckers. People who fall for tricks. He was always disappointed with his dad for that reason, remember? So when Jimmy came back in and did that extra spiel and suddenly they gave him the job, he lost respect for them and didn't want to work with them.
    As for Kim, she just defended the hell outta the man she lives with, cares for, and loves. She's not entirely in the wrong when she says Howard said that shit to get it off his chest. Yes, Kim could be diplomatic and be understanding of both sides and stay quiet... or she could defend her man and pop off. Either is fine, I don't think she's now on Jimmy-level of assholeness because of it. I'd think you all would like to think you'd do the same for your partners, or they for you.

    I do think Kim has something of a point. What reason is there to tell Jimmy that he thinks his brother killed himself on the day of the funeral? We know it to be true, but they don't. Imagine your family member died, and someone you already despise comes up to you that very day and says that. Plus Chuck "you've never mattered all that much to me" McGill cuts him out of the will that we know includes at least $9 million? From Kim's perspective, knowing what she knows and not knowing what she doesn't know, she has every right to be pissed that that happened to the person that she's in a relationship with.

      No but she knows Jimmy forged the docs amongst other things and what he is capable of. She feels guilt for teaming up with Jimmy to tear him down. She said this in previous episodes. However she sees zero empathy from Jimmy, it doesn’t sit right with her, but instead of having a discussion about it, she offloads ALL of that guilt onto someone who had nothing to do with it (Howard). This was totally her projecting

    I like Howard but Kim had every right to go off at him. Him coming to Jimmy and telling that his own brother most likely killed himself?? Who in the world would like to hear that? It was nothing but an attempt at making himself feel better by doing the "right thing" aka telling the truth when it would be more noble of him to accept his role of carrying on that guilt. Also we do not know if it was Chuck instructing Howard or not but he really made it hard for Kimmy at HHM and she probably has that accumilated resentment toward him.

    • @LanceJ.
      @LanceJ. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Stop excusing Kim being an asshole. Is what Howard said the truth? Yes, it’s the truth. Something Jimmy is allergic to because he’s never on the side of truth. It hurt his feelings, oh fucking well. Shouldn’t have ratted on Chuck about his mental issues.

    • @daveqm1024
      @daveqm1024 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Howard's reasoning was likely that to not confess to Jimmy would be to get away with driving Chuck to suicide. It's like if you cheated on your spouse. Telling them would break their heart, but if they found out from someone else, they would see your lack of confession as a lack of remorse. Howard could have waited a lot longer so that Jimmy wasn't still in the middle of grief when he told him, but Howard wasn't being driven by logic at this time, he was being driven by grief. Also, Howard being slow to forgive Kim for persuading him to talk up Jimmy to Davis & Main is not in the same league as this other stuff and using it in your argument is like saying "He's a murderer! And also he jaywalked!"

    Jimmy was not casing. He was there for a job, got denied, did what he does best, "be a lawyer, plead your way out", got accepted, which made him realize how much of a waste of time the job is. Jimmy wants to be a lawyer ! It just so happened to be, that he got shown around the place and noticed one of those statues that one of his former clients had. Also, if nothing else Jimmy is angry about how the whole situation with Chuck impacts his life currently and had to let it out on someone.
    Kim has no idea about Jimmy's involvement in Chuck's death. To her, Jimmy is being treated poorly. To her, Howard is missing tact, which is somewhat true. Howard felt guilty and needed to communicate that to feel better about it. Under different circumstances he might have reconsidered voicing his personal feelings, but not with Jimmy. Kim is a true supporter ! Not to mention, that Kim suspects that Jimmy is grieving on the inside and probably does so herself in a way.

      Jimmy had NO involvement of Chuck's death. Jimmy got his insurance to be bigger, Chuck caused Jimmy to lose being a lawyer and also 150% higher insurance after he comes back to work. This show is master at manipulating that Jimmy is the bad apple when he is really caring character with flaws sure, but Chuck is complete asshole manipulator, user, jealous bitter phuck who tries to keep Jimmy down. I also fell into this manipulation on my first binge of this show.
      Chuck did the anti-Epstein and killed himself. From the point of Jimmy/Kim this really is Howard's fault much more than their own, and perhaps Howard could have tried more to make Chuck come to his senses. But Chuck was the ultimate phucker of this show. Because he is also mentally ill, we don't see clearly how horrible he really is.
      What he did to Jimmy in the finale of season 3 was nearly psychopathic, and leaving that as the last thing he says and committing suicide is the last power move to rip the heart out of Jimmy and Howard.

    it's so fascinating to me how everyone feels so bad for Howard lol
    Kim was absolutely in the right when she went off on Howard, defending her boyfriend who is grieving the loss of his brother. Howard was absolutely being selfish when he went to Jimmy to unload his guilt, not thinking for a second how it might make Jimmy feel. now yes, we all know that Jimmy was at fault for the malpractice suit but Kim didn't know that. all she saw was Jimmy sitting silently through Howard's entire spiel so it makes sense for her to be angry and protective about it. I still maintain that on the surface, Howard looks to be looking out for Chuck and Jimmy but really, he's being very selfish and trying to make himself feel better. I was so glad that Kim called him out on it.
    as for the job, I suspect Jimmy was trying to get the job at first but then when he saw how easily the guys were "conned" by him, I think they reminded him too much of his dad and it triggered him a bit. that's when he decided to just go after the hummel figurine instead.

    • @dunringill1747
      @dunringill1747 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @the_nikster Agreed. This is how I see it as well.
      Kim was a loyal GF defending her BF, who is hurting inside and needs therapy in her eyes. She doesn't know Jimmy blew the whistle on the malpractice insurance. She only knows how much Jimmy was pushed aside by his mentally ill brother.
      Jimmy saw his own gullible father when he conned those copy machine employers. If they are that naive, then they are bound to lose their business just like Dad did. Jimmy's thinking they deserve to get robbed. Jimmy "the wolf" might as well get his share from those "sheep" before they declare bankruptcy and lose all their assets to the banks - the biggest wolves of all.

    • @MattMajcan
      @MattMajcan 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      howard wasn't unloading guilt, in fact he goes out of his way to tell Jimmy and Kim about the insurance rates going up specifically so that they know it's Howard's fault instead of Jimmy and Kim's fault. Kim only says all that stuff because of her feelings for Jimmy and wanting to defend him, but it's not rational. If he wanted to unload guilt he would've blamed someone or something else other than himself. He was simply taking responsibility, something Jimmy has never been able to do. If anything he was trying to do Jimmy a favor. Howard took all the blame so that Jimmy wouldn't blame himself, and that's exactly what happens. Howard has been trying to do right by everyone from the very beginning, often to his own detriment. Like when he kept Jimmy in the mailroom despite him being qualified because he was trying to be loyal to his friend and colleague Chuck. That ended up biting him in the ass. He is this show's answer to "nice guys finish last"

    • @zrifepsych
      @zrifepsych 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kim's loyalty to Jimmy and going off at Howard shouldn't be recognized as a positive thing. She backed Jimmy when knowing that he screwed over Chuck before. Howard was just being truthful, it's entirely unfair to only think about Jimmy's mental state and then completely ignore Howard's. He was pouring his heart out due to emotional stress, Kim asked did he think about Jimmy's feeling, the answer is no because he too was burdened by guilt thinking he's responsible for Chuck's death. But then his action was seen as selfish by Kim because she's loyal to Jimmy and will say anything to make him the villain.

    You guys need to stop being so emotional & judging characters so flippantly based on the most recent thing these characters do. This show specializes in writing deep character studies with virtue & flaws instead of shallow good/bad stereotypes.
    Ya'll also should chill on Kim, she's one of the best written characters not only in this show but any show currently on TV, hence why she's a fan favorite. Vince Gilligan & Peter Gould went out of their way too write a complex & compelling female character after they felt the female characters in Breaking Bad were not developed as well as the males.

    Maybe Howard didn't deserve Kim yelling at him like that but to tell a greving person that you think his brother killed himself by putting himself on fire is a dick move. Why did Jimmy need an image of Chuck setting himself on fire at the day of his funeral? He could have discussed that some other time or not bring it up at all. Like Kim said Howard was not thinking of Jimmy at that point. Also Jimmy took care of Chuck every day for a year if not longer and all Chuck did was judge him and hold him back. (by not wanting to give him a lawyer position at HHM) Never do you see him thank Jimmy for his help. And then as a last judgement on Jimmy Chuck wrote him out of the will. That's cold and Kim is right to be mad.

Did you guys forget how Howard treated Kim when she did nothing wrong? Howard is all about how he and his company looks, he did everything to make himself or his company looks better, he did not really care about Jimmy or Kim or Chuck or anyone else. his is all surface work. It's more than any sane man would do to anybody. Chuck was complete phucker and the true villain of this show up to this point. The devil is in the details.

    Things that went over your heads....
    1)The woman from John Hopkins was sent by Gus cuz he doesn't want Hector to die cuz he wants to torture Hector. Witch he does in Breaking Bad by killing of the whole Salamanca family
    2)Arturo was flexing by demanding six kilos. Gus only relented knowing he was going to kill him in the parking lot so he can "scare the fuck" out of Nacho to get him to work for him
    3) Kim went off on Hamlin cuz she really cares for Jimmy & feels Chuck was an asshole to Jimmy and Hamlin was enabling Chuck's shitty treatment.(keep an eye on how BCS will continue to explore Kim's perspective of the dynamics of Chuck &Jimmy's past relationship) cuz it isn't black & white
    4) Jimmy treated those guys at the copier company like garbage after he saw his father's weakness in them when they quickly decided to hire him without vetting. Remember his father believed every customer that came to him asking for money using a phony story to con him leading to his bankruptcy.
    5) Chuck's last words to Jimmy was an emotional reaction & not truly how he felt. He really did care about Jimmy hence why he got real sick after what he said that to him.
    6) Jimmy is in a lot of mental pain after Chuck's last words & he's emotionally struggling with processing what happened hence why he's acting out
    Regarding why Gus dealt with Walter White in Breaking Bad, he wasn't going to until Gale talked him into it.
    Unlike most tv shows, Better Call Saul's master storytelling is in character development that focus on the grey areas in life. Try considering what some of these things before quickly jumping to conclusions

  • @estebansalas9287

    With the copier job interview, I interpreted it as Jimmy going through several phases of chuck's death almost simultaneously.
    First, he tries doing things the "right" way, the way Chuck would have wanted him to go about getting a job--go in, give the best interview you can, and leave the decision up to others...that's how it's "supposed" to be done. But as he left the office he couldn't help himself...he went into "slippin' Jimmy" mode; a con-man who cuts corners to get the result he wants. So he goes back in and does his best Jimmy shpiel to essentially con them into giving him the job, which they do. "Slippin' Jimmy" wins again. But once he realizes this, he gets angry--and anger is a mask used to hide what you're really feeling, which in this case is guilt and grief. He thinks Chuck would have never fallen for that from anyone, ever. And especially not from Jimmy.
    Kim had told Jimmy that maybe he needed to take some time to deal with Chuck's death and didn't need to go out and get a job right away...I think Jimmy's anger at them hiring him just brought up some of the grief and guilt he was not dealing with over Chuck's death.

And even though Kim doesn't know Jimmy fucked over the insurance on purpose, she's still in the wrong because she completely fails to see that and instead just jumps to defend jimmy no matter what because that's just what she does. It’s not reasonable to say Howard deserves that, but Howard really deserves how Kim treated him

  • @redblobdude
    @redblobdude 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I’m sorry, but this video is barring on the edge of a dislike from me. You guys need to take some more time to actually consider the situation from each characters’ perspective. This show builds its characters with more depth than basically any other show. Howard obviously does mean well, and he’s grieving on his own as well, but he was being extremely ignorant of how his actions affect Jimmy. Unloading his guilt in front of Jimmy on the day of Chucks funeral was extremely selfish. Howard knows how much Chuck hated his brother and he did not once stop to consider how Jimmy could be dealing with it. Yes he’s carrying all of the responsibility for all the formalities and processes following the death but that’s because he was the designated person to do so, not Jimmy, Chucks own brother. Howard was even the one first notified about it. Further unloading all of that shit on Jimmy like the scholarship and the letter serves Jimmy absolutely no purpose but to remind him how little his brother cared for him. How in the world is that doing right by Jimmy? Kim sees how broken Jimmy is and feels sorry for him because she sees that his relationship with Chuck has made him numb. Don’t get me wrong, Howard’s just trying to do what he thinks is the right thing but he’s completely in the wrong here. Also, Jimmy wasn’t casing the joint, he wanted the job at first, but when they hired him out of the blue like that he realized how stupid and unprofessional they were so he didn’t want to work for them, then he remembered seeing the hummels in the office and saw how he could easily rip them off, at this point, we’re seeing that he’s beginning to take Chucks advice in his last words to him, which was to just accept who he is. You guys literally only consider the short term and refuse to consider the background of all of these characters or the incentives anywhere below the surface level. This episode reaction was really frustrating to watch.
    [Edit] I saw another comment that mentioned a really good point. It’s likely when the copier idiots hired Jimmy that he was reminded of his father in that moment, being so easily manipulated. As we saw in the flashback of young Jimmy at the cash register, he decided to take advantage of these people because “in this world there are wolves and there are sheep.” someone’s going to do it eventually, might as well be him.

    I know I'm late to this, but it astounds me the lack of media literacy with these folks. Did they all get their memories of the first couple seasons wiped? Howard has always been Chuck's puppet, to the point where he went along with Chuck's attempts to sabotage both Jimmy - and by proxy, Kim's - career. Howard didn't do anything wrong by telling Jimmy about Chuck's suicide? Howard has always acted selfishly and only kissed Chuck's ass for his own ends. Even if subconscious, Kim was right: Howard was trying to assuage his own guilt.
    How can their only rationalization for Kim's reaction be, essentially, that she's being hysterical? Come the fuck on.

    Guys the characters dont know as much as the audience - howard is alright but kim is a really great person and the yelling was justified from her perspective

    You guys do realize Kim had no knowledge of Jimmy fucking with Chuck's insurance or the resulting effect it had? As far as Kim knows Jimmy is just having issues mourning his brother. She didn't realize quite how complicated or damaged Jimmy and Chuck's relationship had become. Judging her by Jimmy at this point is kind of ridiculous. She's more concerned with the emotions of her boyfriend than her ex boss who treated her like shit. Also, you think the past 3 seasons and the way you guys just did a 180 on Howard you would learn not to judge people as so good or bad.
    Jimmy went there to interview for the job but fully away from Chuck's influence he's feeling his bad side more. When he saw the figurine he realized there was an opportunity there for something else. That second pitch was to see how easy of marks these guys were and then when they proved they were easily manipulated he realized he didn't want to work for people as gullible as those 2.
    That last scene with Gus letting Nacho know what his new situation is was badass. Gus is a scary motherfucker. And Nacho cannot catch a break.

    Kim feels guilty about Chuck (see conversation with Paige) and lashes out at Howard for the same reason Jimmy does. Siding with Kim and hating on Howard is BCS's version of siding with Walt and hating on Skyler, imo

    11:11 Jimmy misses Chuck. Chuck was the one who would see through Jimmy's shenanigans and call him out on it and now that part of his life is gone.

    The opener is the same thing he always went over with Mike over parking tickets. It isn't about the thing he's arguing over, he just wants to win arguments. It's like a compulsion. He didn't want the job, he just wanted to have it offered to him.
