I watched the Dome get built. Went to its grand opening, and been there for numerous other events. One notable event I remember was about 16,000 of us elementary school kids went to the dome for Tacoma's centennial. We turned it into the Thunder Dome that day.
LOVE the shots of Springsteen from 1988! I was at that show, that went for 3 1/2 hours, and I can tell you that it was THE best concert I have EVER been to in my life! I have seen a LOT of shows too. I've seen Bruce 4 times. McCartney 4 times. Johnny Cash. Etc. A LONG list. But that show in 1988 at the Tacoma Dome was unbelievable. I still have the newspaper clipping from the day after and they were even saying that this was perhaps the greatest musical event the Pacific Northwest had ever seen. It WAS!
My high school class was the first to have our ceremony in the Tacoma Dome (Stadium 1984). I was honored to sing the national anthem along with two other graduates. It was SO cool to hear our voices reverberating in that huge space! I believe the moment was captured in a photo on the front page of the Tacoma New Tribune. A thrilling end to a rocky high school career 😄.
I was there 40 years ago During the AC/DC Concert when That Guy set off that Flare and Started the Ceiling on Fire. The Roadies for AC/DC Gave that Guy one Hell of a Beating around the sound mixing board before Dragging him and his Girlfriend off. AC/DC Never Stopped Playing through All of the Chaos.
Great documentary. The T-dome is truly one of a kind. Quite disappointed that the there was no mention of the domes first public event (certainly the most important event in its 40 year) - the Billy Graham Crusade. Happy Birthday Tacoma Dome!
My grandmother was raised in a house that her father built with his bare hands. Digging out the basement took 10 years with a shovel. It sat where the Dome sits right now. They were forced to sell their property. The last ones to go. She recounted how bus loads of people dug up the rhododendrons even before the house was moved; relocated halfway up the hill. She lived there until she passed away. I miss her terribly 😢
No mention Of the Tacoma Stars who had the Dome as its home for 9 years, but like 25 mentions of the Sonics that don't even exist anymore... what kind of joke is this?
Worked there from 84 to 97 Seen so many famous celebrities, entertainers and shows/concerts What a fabulous time it was ❤

I did too. Was stationed at Ft. Lewis at the time. Before the dome was built you could rent honda odessy there. Was a small track.

Who discovered that acoustics in a dome would sound so great? In 1988 Motley Crue played at The Dome. I was 18 & remember it like yesterday!
Great piece of video! Born and raised in Tacoma, now a senior citizen, attended many different events there. Thanks for sharing this video!

A magnificent structure and a magnificent city. I will be back 👍🏻

I'm so sorry. At least you have an amazing story to tell ♡
It would be hard to go into that building and be like "this is suppose to be my grandparents yard". That would hurt
I'm from tacoma and I am fascinated by tacoma history this is amazing
I saw Bruce there in '92 & '00. 23,000 people. Place rocks. Bruce loves the acoustics of the building.
I’ve stood in the middle of it, my dad worked there when I was young it does make you feel so small.
Worked for the Stars and then the Rockets back in the day. What a place and time.
Why are some of the neon lights burnt out?
I just wish investment was made for the surrounding area. Downtown Tacoma is abandoned.
My dad got to sign the beam.
