Enjoyed this video, Elam is easily one of my favorite western character actors. Truely appreciated it. Another one of my favs is Warren Oats. Maybe we'll see one on him in the future. 🙂
Elam's part in Rawhide is great. That's a good film, great cast and writing. And his comic talent is displayed in Support Your Local Sheriff. Perfect as James Garner's sidekick deputy.
Shooting at the infant was one of the most gut wrenching scenes and earned him the role of one of the most legendary western villains of all time. (Rawhide)
Jack scared me as a kid. But not the kind that made you change the channel or leave the room or turn off the tv. You stayed around to see him get it because he deserved it. You wanted your hero to cut him down. If you would’ve told me that one day I would live in Arizona (the most beautiful place I have ever been to ) and drive through the city where he was born ( Miami Az ) I wouldn’t have believed you. He could do it all. Drama, sci-fi comedy etc. What a star!
My great-grandmother knew him when he was a boy in her Sunday school at church. Seeing that Jack Elam was born in 1920, a rough guess would place that around 95 years ago if he was ten years of age at the time.
The problem with character actors is that their faces are so very familiar, yet their names elude you. Yes, I have seen Jack Elam in numerous film and television appearances over the years. One that stands out vividly in my memory is the true-life drama "Death Valley Days" - Episode: A general without cause [S-9 E-29 1961] in which Jack in his most iconic role starred with Lisa Gaye. This was truly a gripping drama and deserves to be colorized.
All western fans know Elam from Once Upon A Time In The West and Support Your Local Sheriff ( and Gunfighter6. But Elam’s best performance? Edge of Eternity. Why? There he shows that he can play a different role then a villain or sidekick, and do it well.
Elam plays one of three villainous Clemens brothers in the 1971 movie Hannie Caulder, opposite the late beauty Raquel Welch and Robert Culp. Borgnine and Strother Martin are his other two brothers. The western is very entertaining and also features Christopher Lee.
Not another actor on Earth could have played that part in Once Upon a Time In the West. It was if his entire acting career was just training for that part.
Jack Elam - just came across this in the you tube world. Jack was an icon without being premoted to one. loved this guy!
❤ Loved this video, Jack Elam is one of my favorite Actors he can be scary and be very funny. 😊😊😊
A great Jack Elam moment: his ˋduel´ with the fly in the opening of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST.

He's one of the greatest!
Also The Sundowners opposite Robert Preston and Catherine Downs and Chill Wills. Great picture.
such a wonderful actor
A little trivia: in "The Texas Wheelers " two of Elam's sons were played by Gary Busey and Mark Hamill.
A great actor 🤠
No argument whatsoever!😉
Elam is the literal definition of the term “character actor,” for he was both.

A fine actor with true grit, and long fingers (that proctologist in The Cannonball Run! :) )
He played Walter Brennan in Rio Lobo. Jack Elam always added to any project he undertook.
He was a good bad outlaw still funny. Even the movie Dirty Dingus Magee, Support your local gunfighter.

Cool tit bit. Wow, that was a while ago!

He was funny in Support your local sheriff.
I would place Elam as my second favorite, right after Christopher Lloyd. I most enjoy Elam’s comedic roles!

Jack was a great actor, either straight or comedic.
One of the best
I wish Struck by Lightning was more successful. Such a good comedy.
Jack Elam as Toothy Thompson!!!
First saw Elam in the kung fu series
Wonky eye Jack
The visuals didn't match the narration, but who cares? ..
