Yes!! This is so crazy because I literally just had this conversation with my 18 year old Son whom recently received his 1st truck as an early graduation present(Class of 2021)!! I explained in great detail what NOT to do, how to be a "safe" driver and acted out a scenario of what COULD happen. While Instilling in him that sometimes just a simple traffic stop could escalate very quickly! We pray that the police just give us a ticket and we actually make it HOME safely but unfortunately some of us never do! I scared him but it was necessary. Now he understand that this is not a game!! Then I came across this Amazing movie! We watched it as a Family and had a very in depth conversation. Major props to Nate Parker and his team! My only qualm is there was very little promotion of this movie which is sad! What's even sadder is these are the same inequities that our parents, grandparents as well as ancestors faced and fought for to Change! Yet here it is, the year 2021! STILL fighting for equality and CHANGE!STILL stagnant; STILL settling for the scraps off of the table and STILL being passive aggressive with no real resolve. WE all bleed RED!! If we can united during a "Pandemic" just imagine how it would be if we all united to put an end to this long overdue race war! I will definitely share with everyone that I can.... This is a must see movie for all to watch! Our young Kings and Queens Matter!! Blessing to all..🙌🙌🏽

This movie hit hard. I am a white male and a cop (21 years so far). I am also married to a half black / half Puerto Rican woman. We are in our mid 40's now. We grew up together as kids in a low income, somewhat "Urban" area in South Florida. We watched this movie together last night.
Both sides had extremely compelling arguments in their so-called "trial". I have witnessed black men resist for absolutely no reason and I have seen white cops highly over react in certain situations.
And yes, the statement, "I did what I was trained to do" is 100% accurate. Law Enforcement is brainwashed with the singular goal that We go home at the end of our shift". I've heard it a thousand times.
The problem is, you as a citizen or suspect KNOW if you are gonna attack or not. I do not have that information. I have to be on the edge of my tippy toes to get that jump ahead of you IF things go bad. He was right when he said, "I was scared!" That is the truth my friends. Every single cop is scared. We are scared of the unknown and anyone who tells you differently is lying.

    • @MrOTcomputer
      @MrOTcomputer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@youmadbro7733 Thank you. I can't imagine anyone with more insight.
What does that mean "we go home at the end of our shift"?
From the outside looking in, I know the truth is far from what the News is telling. The News keeps pushing agendas and political propaganda. When I look at the numbers and the statistics I don't see more black people being killed by cops than white people, I see just the opposite. I've witnessed more black on black and black on white and black on blue racism in America than any other kind, however, it seems to always come down to the individuals and not a group or institution or department. Every time I attempt to generalize people, I find myself realizing that the problem is with individual people or a few individuals and not the systematic corruption of the institution. From what you tell us, the police are trained to follow a certain creed which makes sense to me. There are alot of bad people in our society and the police need to protect themselves wisely. From what I've witnessed, certain individual cops (usually ex-military/soldiers) have problems with not knowing when and when not to hesitate due to the fear and stress of not knowing. The News networks want us to believe that there is this systematic racism against black people throughout our law enforcement agencies but I have not seen any evidence of that. On the contrary I have seen alot of black criminals exploit the "race card" to gain an advantage over a police officer. George Floyd is a perfect example of a black junkie criminal who used every manipulation to attempt to deceive several police officers and it worked far beyond that. Floyd was able to deceive hundreds of thousands of of people, but I still find that all those individual people housed some sort of racial discrimination towards the police. When I spoke to other individuals, who I believed were not racist towards the police, they told me that they thought the police officers were just doing their jobs. That was after they watched ALL the videos surrounding the George Floyd arrest where Floyd claimed to be claustrophobic and couldn't breath while sitting in his own SUV and again after he kicked out of the back of the police cruiser attempting to resist being taken to jail. Meaning it still seems to me that the majority of the people are not racist and want to know the truth.
We really need to hear more from people like you who have experience and far less from the News networks on this subject of police and racism in America.

@brian ohara black people are MORE than well aware of that statistic, you guys love throwing it in our faces. But if you had any common sense then you’d know that it’s completely irrelevant because there are 5 times more white people than black. So taking how often each is killed, black people are still killed at a higher rate than white people. But even if that wasn’t the case, why the fuck would you be okay with that? So yeah, you thought you did something but you didn’t.

This movie is so deep! After I watched A Time To Kill and Trayvon Martin's trial, I wondered why the family is supposed to accept the outcome. If someone kills your child and gets off, how are you supposed to deal with it and why do you have to accept it?

This movie is so deep. To watch it hurts even more. My son was murdered November 26, 2016. He was I thought surrounded with friends, but learned later they were just strays. Four years later murder still unsolved. Hell, it went Cold Case within 10 months. I became his detective and his lawyer. To answer your question??? How do you react when people plot to murder your child? As hard as it is I had to forgive them first. Just this weekend you hear how they are having a good time at the Super Bowl, and but still my son is dead and his case is unsolved. This is the hardest thing a parent can endure. Don't get me wrong my mind sometimes say revenge, but then I can't forget the man I serve. I believe my heart has broken in a million pieces. I want justice and I want them to live and feel me and my family pain. Four people have been killed that could have been involved with my son's death, and my heart hurt for their parents. But my prayer is a conviction and exposed them all. I don't wish this on their parents. This is the worst pain ever. 😥 LOVE YOUR CHILDREN WITH ALL THEIR FAULTS, and never give up on them. I can say my son wasn't no saint but he was my son.❤

Sit back and imma tell yall my thoughts and experiences as well... Btw this is coming from a black man thats also a police officer.
The movie was touching and all so realistic. From a racial stand point and with the police officers. 1st thing I noticed is when they used the black "captain" to go sit with the mother and beg her to make a statement. That should've been the mayor or chief of police not a captain. But thats how we are seen in law enforcement. We're only used to meet quotas. Hire a few blacks to not seem racists and promote 1 or 2 here and there for good measure. Use them for black relations.
2nd. With the Hispanic female officer that spoke up. When she did I shook my head and said baby you about to lose your job and probably be called an accomplice. Omg they tried to shut her up and basically threw that its us or them in her face. Smh they drill into minority officer's heads that our own ppl hate us and that our real family is law enforcement. But sad thing is alot of us are to stupid to see that we're not included we're tolerated. We're not an actual part of the group we're the little brother who holds the unplugged controller.
    3. When the jury was gonna vote. The officer called the black kid bias when he never spoke a word. But before he walked off he tried to use that good ole boy mentality to appease the kid. Cause for years black ppl have tolerated the utmost disrespect but as long as you say some nice things all is forgiven.
But as a black officer I just wanna say this is very real. White officers profile all the time. They make little slick racial jokes and comments to test minority officers. I could go on for days smh.

Now he understands that this is not a game!! STILL fighting for equality and CHANGE! STILL stagnant; STILL settling for the scraps off of the table and STILL being passive aggressive with no real resolve. WE all bleed RED!! If we can unite during a "Pandemic" just imagine how it would be if we all united to put an end to this long overdue race war! I will definitely share with everyone that I can.... This is a must see movie for all to watch! Our young Kings and Queens Matter!! Blessings to all..🙌🙌🏽

And with all that said. It is hard to have to explain to your kids just to comply with cops because they will escalate the situation if they feel threatened. Regardless of who the attacker is "supposedly". The ending explained it all. They shot him anyway. And if it was a white person they would've stormed the white house the precinct the whole 9 yards to get Justice ! Sad. Man.

Nate did that and much more. The social commentary in this film is truly amazing. Points out the hypocrisies but also gives great arguments from both sides. So sad this is our reality, but what a cathartic purging of emotions on a piece of art EVERYONE should watch. I was teary eyed throughout. I hope this brings more empathy and compassion to both sides and helps people realize we all are on the same side... We might be different colors but we’re all the same race. Human.
