Honda engines of this era can last 600k Kilometers or 400k Miles and still keep going. The DelSol was a car that could last decades. Ask any DelSol owner the leaks and seals are an easy fix. More a product of owner neglect (no idea of maintenance and roof adjustment) and likely a short term owner with little to zero tolerance to repairs and maintenance.
@@honeytoasty5496 mine has 428k miles no rebuilt engine or nun just rebuilt suspention did compression test car is still healthy so I turboed it and it's had the turbo for 40k miles always ripping it literally will never break
@@honeytoasty5496 As @callmetimmy3004 below attest and I have 2 myself with over 300K and no rebuild. Not sure why you find that hard to believe . The only issue is that so many of these cars were so poorly treated there is little surviving vehicles where the instrument clusters is still reliably logging their distance. There are examples but not where you can easily see them. There is so many still factory sealed engines going around that have been moved from car to car, project after project that 300k-500k is regularly achieved but unnoticed.
1zz is hit or miss. Depending on the year you have. It looks like yours is the same as mine, an mr2 before 2003. The first engine my mr2 had blew seals and piston rings were shot and it was burning a huge amount of oil. Got it swapped with the same engine but updated motor without the oil consumption issues. Runs great now, burns no oil but yeah it's a lot if money for being an old car. I have to replace the top because of tearing. Slowly it's getting better. But you know some things always tend to show up but I'm trying to catch it before it becomes a problem.
I had a del sol with the fancy electronic roof, did 120k in it before passing on to my bother in law who did another 30k but it was the rear wheel arches that ate themselves that did for it in the end, £800 of bodywork work on a car then worth £1000 max
That equation is a flawed economic reasoning propagated by the manufacturers. The equation should not be economic value but useful value. If you are using financial equation then the fact there is ZERO depreciation, interest repayments, regular servicing costs for warranty compliance etc should be taken included. Facts are spending 800 on a car that is fully paid, little to no product obsolescence, simple tools to maintain, no restriction of DIY information, no hidden cost and even appreciating whilst still fulfilling the useful transportation role (not a classic needing limited usage) makes perfect sense.
I've owned my 53plate facelift MR2 4years and cost me £1650 with only 43k on the clock and I haven't had any problems. I'd say you should have spent a little more money on a later better example. If it has a sound body, rear subframe and working handbrake, please do a article on a 2zz swap, the engine an MR2 should have had. It would have distroied MX5s then and would have been a contender against the Honda S2000.
What's up with the roof seals, is it leaking and need replacing? Looks like the rear quarters need replacing and a respray the panels look mismatching, what's that 4k of work. 😳
Vti for the win Ive seen that del sol on ebay am sure ! Or Gumtree give it some vtec mate i own a 2000 Honda Civic vti Aerodeck B18c4 with the lsd gearbox only £85,000 miles
As soon as you got there, and he said lets chill out for a bit, I immediately said "rod knock" Those mr2s are shit. Everyone I've ever seen, has died of rod knock
Oh, poor MR2! :( Hopefully somebody will save the shell and put another engine in it! Excited and scared to see what they've given you gents as your next challenge rides :P
Many Cars the Oil Pressure sensors dont work, Vauxhall astra that was 2 years old oil leaked out and engine seized but no light. Had 3 old HRV and only one worked, 2 used quite a bit of oil and when previous owners dont check level, 2 of them ran low on oil and worn bottom end bearings. I replaced Engine in one, And other Now had Civic Engine. So never rely on them letting you know
The Samba Green CRX VTi i bought had 1300 quid spend on the rear arches, looked ok when i bought it but after 2 years all bubbling again, would Dred to think what it looked like under the paint so i got rid
Both are actually great roadsters that can be saved…with lots of love…and money/time
Early 1zz death rattle. Was fixed in post revision Celicas. Inherent design flaw :(

show me example of either b or d series engines that are over 300 000km without any rebuild. Where did you ever see one with 500 000+ ?

@@crxdelsolsir I replaced it with a Porsche 996 which was way more fun 🤷♂️
Good ol Peterborough. Used to have a Mk2 Vtec kick myself to this day selling it. Bought it for £1600 with 65k, how times and prices have changed!
Fair play to you for bursting the bubble. Owning a very old car is always going to be stressful and expensive
How crazy is it that a yellow 90's Peugeot is more reliable than a late 90's Toyota 😀
It's just depends how good is looking after
@@TomRxtroWav397 That's true, but these Toyota engines do have a couple of unfortunate inherent problems!

Wish i'd bought a Aerodeck VTI sometimes but HRV great for Picking Up Big Stuff and have CRX VTI for Sunny days
I thought I saw the little MR2 parked up in Bexhill the other day on my drive home from work.. I’m looking forward to seeing your new cars.
Can’t wait

Hi would you like to sell me your Mr2 roof? 😁
Probably ran out of oil and broke the engine. They (early cars) burn plenty and the dipstick is pretty terrible.
We checked it immediately, still full of oil!
Too much bickering.
