You can't recapture lightning in a bottle.
Just as well we are only capturing Fawlty Towers then.
So I take it you were successful the first time?
Can't wait for the stage adaptation of On The Buses!
Good to see Theatreland is brimming with creativity, imagination, artistic flair and original thinking!!
HAHAHA
Just like the film industry.
@@darrengriffin8609 Spot on! I'm waiting for Faulty Towers - the Prequel ! Another shameless hatchet job!
“WOMEN BUS DRIVERS?!?! you must be having a laugh Blakey” 😂
So one play, adapted from tv by its actual creator, translates to all of theatre?
At first glance I thought Henry Cavill was playing Basil!!!
😂😂😂😂😂YESSSSSS!!!!!!!! Well since he lost his Superman gig I guess he's taking any acting role he can get😂😂😂😂😂
How will they handle the Manuel character? he's hardly PC enough for these days
Not really. He's a non-English speaker struggling to speak English, and it's never implied that his lack of English makes him stupid (as some less well-written shows do).
@@yakubduncan9019 well not really, they do show him doing pretty silly things, and he gets a lot of abuse from John Cleese, but honestly if people take offense to it then that is there issue
@@yakubduncan9019 he thought a rat was a hamster
@@yakubduncan9019 , did you watch a different Fawlty Tower than the one I did? He was always being made to look stupid. Every episode. I'm not saying it wasn't funny (cause it was). I love the character, just like I love 'Carry One' films. I'm just wondering how they will still make him "Manual' without offending today's sensibilities.
@@BolanKeithYes but "stupid" was never a particularly Barcelona thing to begin with, so no stereotype there. He was slightly stupid to take a job where he's out of his depth linguistically etc. It's never implied that his stupidity is connected with Barcelona. Accepting a job from Basil who wanted someone cheap, even though he doesn't know nearly enough English, is part of his general pushover nature, but nobody links these concepts to Catalonia or Spain in the slightest.
Oh dear, what a commercial turn off.
Notice that the icon character Basil's performance is kept out of the trailer , one wonders why?
Thanks for reminding me to rewatch the original.
"What's wrong with you... Don't they have dogs in Calcutta?"
Even though I don't live in the UK, I really would like to see this.
Was that Paul 'Just Good Friends' Nicolas???
It was. Good eye.
@@darrengriffin8609 gosh - isn’t age cruel! What happened to the curly mop?
Only sybil...hardly a trailer... looks horrific
Why are the comments so negative? I’m really happy there doing this if it does well maybe they could do new episodes 🙂
Thank god. I thought they were remaking the tv show. Why mess with perfection?
when?! Where?? How can I see it??
I will only go and see it if they have completed the major exactly as he was, with the same dialogue that he had in the original series.
Good luck with that right?
Be honest you wouldn't go anyway would you? You'd be too busy dog-whistling other GB News subscribers on the Internet.
Why pick on GB news? I guess being spoon fed the drivel from the other outlets is more suitable. Personally i don't engage with any of them. Much happier and remaining unbrainwashed@finncullen
Who are the cast?
Any chance of a stateside tour?
Looks pretty good 👍
With Cleese involved, there is hope ... but it's a very high standard.
Well, it was great on the tely. We shall see how this goes.
Can't see the major being as funny this time around
i will not be watching this...i shall keep the memories of the great original.
I might go given the opportunity.
Can’t be a worse than Spamalot.
Does John Cleese have ANYTHING to do with this specific production?
If not, why is HIS NAME IN LARGE FONT?
He wrote it
Calling this a trailer seems a bit disingenuous
It's better than the American tosh that they did.
Do you mean Amanda By the Sea, starring the late Bea Arthur?
Yes, I think that was one of them. There was 2 that tried to replicate FT but fell well short of the original.
There was a pilot called Snaveley on ABC in 1978 with Harvey Korman, Betty White and Frank LaLoggia, another incomplete series called Amanda’s on ABC in 1983 with Bea Arthur, Fred McCarren and Tony Rosato, and finally, Payne on CBS in 1999 with John Larroquette, JoBeth Williams and Rick Batalla, which had John Cleese’s blessing, but it was also incomplete.
In 2001, RTL made a German version of Fawlty Towers as well named “Zoom Letzen Kliff”, “To The Last Cliff”, doing superbly with the scripts according to John Cleese, but unfortunately, only a pilot was filmed.
On those trays... Uno dos tres
why is john doing this?
I think he has another divorce to pay for.
@@AvailableHandle oh ya....
Three reasons: 1) money, 2) money and 3) money.
Everything has to be a brand these days. A money making product. Why remake something great with lesser talent ? Money. Greed.
Why?
Why? John Cleese is a comedy icon. This'll come off as a cheap knock-off. Rather than syphoning off an old classic, how about writing an original story?
Benny Hill considered funnier than Monty Python by two TV stations --WOR and WLVI!
"Don't mention the war. "
How has Paul Nicolas aged so badly?
You just know it’s gonna be proper shite,
You can’t recreate something like this..
why?
Well, I suppose Cleese can do what he wants, it's his legacy.
Looks great
I am old enough to remember when John Cleese was funny!
I find this kind of nostalgia or 'greatest hits' theatre depressing. There is nothing new being said or done and, no reason to go.
Don't remake classic stuff. There's a stage production of Footloose. That's just wrong.
I agree. Nobody should know who Shakespeare is now that he's dead. Stop adapting his work.
🥱😴
No thanks. It irritates me to see people pretend to be the real characters. Maybe you think different.
That’s literally how acting works !
Yeah it's called acting. 🤨
Agree, this utter drivel
Lol. Actors acting irritates you. 😂
Many years ago, there used to be a radio show called "Prairie Home Companion". I listened to this program every week religiously with great pleasure. It was one of my loves.
Then they brought out a movie of the same name. Silly me, I watched it. There on the screen were all the characters I loved to listen to, played by people I've never heard of (apart from Garrison Keilor). Over the course of that movie, the images and pleasure I'd built up over the years of listening of all these characters, were destroyed. I never listened to the companion again. I couldn't because on the few times I heard bits of it, even old recordings of episodes, all I could picture were these characters in the movie. (And really, to me it was a bad movie anyway.)
A radio show works because you build up your own image of the characters, and this is always the correct one, the one you imagine while listening. When you see someone else playing those characters, bang goes all the love, the pleasure you've built up over the years of listening.
Because of this, these have been other movies that I utterly refuse to see because of this. They take a character or story, real or imagined, and make their own version of it. It may be what THEY picture when they read/watch it, but it certainly is not mine.
Lord of the Rings was one but I confess I do like to watch it occasionally, but when I re-read the book every couple of years, all I picture now are the characters in the movie. The pleasure I used to get is long gone.
Maybe it's only me that thinks this way, maybe not, but I'm not going to destroy my pleasure, my love of squirming while watching reruns Fawlty Towers just because I happened to watch a stage show of the same name. Never going to happen folks.
Say what you like, that's my opinion.
No no NO!
nope
They may have the material but they don’t have the charisma(& acting skills) of the original characters. 50/50 whether this will be a hit.
Nah
Looks absolutely awful 😣
Not for me I think.
Looks awful
WTAF?!
With John behind this thankfully it will be woke free, bring it on😊
Utterly appalling......
Blimey, the major. Just sayin'.
Nope and nope. I've seen the best so no need for this baloney.
Nooooooooooooo!
Should not be allowed..🇬🇧
😂that’s bad
Looks good to me don’t be a hater let’s hope it’s not woke😊❤
Don’t mention the war
What does that mean?
I didn't mention the war 😂oops I did lol
Oh please great Oracle, do define the word woke for me because it obviously means something terrible to you and the right wing media that like to bandy the term around. I mean, to my knowledge (in the current usage) it means to have your eyes open as to how words and actions affect others…so in other words to have compassion, care and understanding for everyone. But if you believe that these are despicable traits for people to have then I hope you are living a life that lacks all of them…just as you wish life to be for others.
Not much chance of that with Cleese at the helm. His brand these days is "old man yells at clouds"
I hope they do all those old racist sketches that the bbc pulled.
Gosh yes, and I hope they pass round leaflets full of swear words and racial insults, you know, to really own the libs. And then in the interval just to show how unwoke everyone is they can all beat up some gays or pinch a few dolly birds on the behind. Because nothing is more important than showing just how much people hate the woke. Heck drop everything except the racism, that will really show them! Defining yourself only by what you are offended by is surely what the gammons accuse the woketards of... yet they seem to be adopting the same tactics.
It was barely funny first time around!
A bet its shit!
Nope
Cringe.
I can only hope that the new John Cleese "Fawlty Towers" series (when released) is an all out assault on WOKE. Any bending of the knee to liberalism will undermine the original two series.🤗
John himself LOATHES Woke in all every way, shape, and form.
Calm down dear, you're getting even more gammony than normal - all worked up at imaginary enemies.
@@finncullen Yes, because there is no radical Left, and they aren't ruining everything, including the entertainment industry. 🙄
The thought of watching a remade woke version will be as funny as toothache.
nope
