This is my level: KGS 1-2d and I've been trying to implement your basics, but often I get into a fight that I don't control In this game a number of choices you made are not in my "basics" repertoire: - bottom left and upper left joseki are assumed known - 55: you jump out twice, poke twice, then connect underneath; why so far and not further? you don't seem behind enemy lines; I would probably continue jumping - 67: with that shape I wouldn't dream of capping and attacking, but connect at the top This kind of balance, knowing that 55 you need defence and at 67 can attack, is a major difference in our level and (AFAICS) not in a basic way.
I agree that joseki knowledge is not always ‘basic’ and you will just have to live with an inferior result if you don’t know any in the particular situation. Though it does also surprise me that Dwyrin chose the upper left as that joseki has quite a few variants. But I guess it’s just his go to joseki here 55 you can try to learn from. It is 2 intuitive principles. Make sure the opponent is not easily connected and then connect your weak group while your opponent is still unsettled. The tricky part is that Dwyrin uses some quick reading to make sure he can actually connect and therefore peeps twice. So while the principle is good and basic if you can’t read it out then you cannot apply it - this is a dan game though. 68 you can learn from - if you tenuki then k16 can become a problem and if you defend it directly then it’s easy on white. Using whites weakness to cover your own is a good idea
Yeah, Im around that level too. Its really hard to find these "when youre allowed to tenuki" moves. Because if you play solid there and defend instead of attacking, you basically give your opponent 10 to 20 points.
I think we need another video on how to properly punish these kind of overextensions, because I don't fully understand how you decided on all of your punishing moves in this game. I will rewatch it again later though.
Hi dwyrin - I really enjoy your basic series. I'm really looking forwards to Fridays! Thanks a lot for your work! I have a question about the move at 2:57: Normally we should play the largest side but its obvious that the left side is not the largest one. So why did you choose the left side? I'm a 15k so I'm more interested in kyu games. I also try to learn from dan games but there comes a point in middle game where I get lost. But I think this is normal and nevertheless I watch all videos to the very end.
This was super instructive, a really good mix between Basics and agression. Quick question : at 11:31, had B responded at D7, what would be the correct following move for W ? I'm hesitating between F6 and G6 - both seem to work, but I'm not sure of my reading on this.
"I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter." Who would've thought linkin park could be a poetic descriptor of a Go game where just one mistake ruined it all ^_^
tygem and fox players are more willing to experiment, ive found, than kgs players. i think kgs and fox are very close in rank its just fox players are more willing to go out with a bang if they think they can get an edge where kgs players will just sit back and let the game end with them behind...
@@ke-hwankim73 Playing weaker players is what makes this posible, cause their strategies are always below his level and very rarely happen unexpected things for him...But he barely shows the games he lost or games where he gets outplayed
Hey dwyrin, love your videos! I know you didn’t mean anything bad, but please avoid using that emo go expression. Mental health is a pretty serious thing to speak casually that way. Cheers buddy, keep up the good work!
·sev· Sorry to hear that buddy... I also had depression for almost a decade, lost friends to mental illness and have a few others that still are in a lot of suffering. Glad to hear that you were able to overcome it, I totally get you, but sadly people don’t cope with bad situations in the same way. Your joke may be the trigger and suffering of another. I have no interest in judging people or using them to make some self affirmation, but I know some insight and reflection regarding this topic is always welcome. Sorry if I upset you, I think we all share the same worries and hopes. Kind regards ☺️
@@iknakamae No worries. I am just of the opinion that the only way to inure yourself to things that trigger you is exposure therapy. Trying to avoid triggers will lead to increased sensitivity and when those triggers eventually come knocking, and they will, they are going to be all the more powerful and devastating for you. We can of course agree to disagree on this point, but I just think that censoriousness and proscribed language, rather than alleviating such situations, will exacerbate them. All about breaking the cycle and all that. Anyway this is definitely not the place for such discussions. This channel is about Go, after all :) Take care.
2 and 3 Dan basics with fighting strats sounds amazing. I understand your opening basics, I'd like to get more into what to do mid game.

batts ty so much perfect way to wake up a cup of coffee and a batt's video!

Interesting game and good review. I look forward to more games on KGS like this.

Upper left joseki is something I would never ever play. It looks like a total disaster for White.
Do you ever try the automatch feature on KGS?
Emo Go: you force your opponent to cut you and when you cry.

Finally 30mn game is fast enough today xD.
You might have more luck on KGS using the automatch feature.
Why is 2d on tygem so much weaker than kgs. Ive been playing on tygem and the low dans are so weak.

Just purely out of curiosity, what is your IQ? I'm pretty certain it's over 150.
what makes you think that??
