    For my current job, the first phone interview was not scheduled. The recruiter just called me up out of the blue. I was shopping at Target. Luckily I already had my headphones in so I could hear them very clearly and the mic blocked out ambient noise. And it was on a weekday morning, at the height of the pandemic, so Target was mostly empty. And it was a very casual phone conversation, not a full-blown interview. But you should see me crouching in the middle of the towels aisle (the most quiet section I could find) trying to do a phone screening interview 😅

    For my job, when I picked up the phone, I was extremely respectful, answered all questions with detail (but not too much to bore the interviewer), and whenever I was asked a question that were either yes or no, I trailed "Ma'am" onto them to be respectful.
    A month later in the office and here I am sitting 20ft from her desk in the developers section. 😁
    I watched your videos before ever seeing this video, and part of my success is definitely credited towards you! Thanks for all the content you put out here.
    For those who are hesitant about trying some of her guidelines, yes they really do work and you'll never know how much they truly work if you don't try it.

    I passed my phone screening and now I have an in person interview tomorrow, I am very nervous but also proud of myself for getting past the first step of the hiring process. Wish me luck, I'm trying to prepare as much as I can so I'm not caught off guard by any questions they may ask!

    Hi Cassandra... Well I Better call you Professor. Well I'm one of your students from CSUF from the year 2020, and ever since I've been following your career development videos.
    I want to thank you because there was one coach I had honestly been following and that was your videos. Yes, it took a while to land a good job but your videos were getting me jobs and for the one that I am currently working for, I am pretty happy with it.
    Please feel free to share my experience in one of your videos if you would like to but if you do, please tag me if possible. I would want to watch that video/short.
    Thank you once again.

      I'm sorry you experienced this. You have to wonder why they were doing interviews. Do they not know we're interviewing them as well? Obviously they gave out a lot of red flags there, so if nothing came of it, you could say that you probably dodged a bullet.

    I was all set for the phone interview with my bullet point notes…tomorrow I have the in person interview and of course can’t take those same notes. My issue is I struggle with brain fog and it gives me HUGE anxiety. I’m so afraid I’m going to fumble my way through tomorrow….
    I know employers want confident employees, and I am at what I do, but in interviews that doesn’t always come across.
    Do interviewers make allowances for nervousness?

    Dear Cassy, You have to realize that some people dont have any family or friends left to test these things out on. Life happens, people pass on and some of us are left alone in this world. Please dont make us feel like we are failures because we dont have a test person anymore.

    • @CassThompsonConsulting
      @CassThompsonConsulting  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hi! It was never my intent to make anyone feel like a failure. And I’m really sorry that the world is so lonely right now. I do get it- You’re talking to someone who lives alone and is an only child! The point I was trying to make was that practicing ahead is important and used practicing on friends and family as a general example for just practicing. You can practice by recording yourself and watching it back! There are a lot of nuances in everyone’s situations and I know those can be tough. I just can’t cover every situation in a video so a lot of broad strokes are made. I hope this helps to see where I was coming from.

      @teamicdee so use the people you work with to your advantage. You don’t need family to show you are good fit for the job. Net work in your position, get a mentor in the job you want to be in. Go outside your comfort zone, that’s a huge accomplishment! Don’t give in to personal barriers, give yourself credit and go further

    As an HR professional. you need to be mindful of your speech: the filler words that probably you did not realise about: like is a word that resembles lack of professionalism and redundancy. This sounds like an informal video for a serious topic such as employment. Why do many North American people use this word a lot in their everyday speech? They do not sound competent to me.

    • @CassThompsonConsulting
      @CassThompsonConsulting  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Hi Flor, you’re right, my use of “like” is something I’m working on. It is very common here in the US but doesn’t mean we couldn’t all improve on how and when we use it. However, the informal nature of my videos is actually what most people like about them! They’re not corporate trainings, they’re your friend giving you advice and info about the working world.

    • @florchavez3040
      @florchavez3040 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CassThompsonConsulting if we use filler words in our speech during an interview, we would likely not get the job unless the interviewer is also redundant in his or her talk.
