Thanks for posting this video. This fixed my issue. We had to turn the main water off to the house. When we turned it back on, the water heater wouldn't ignite. I drained the system, opened the hot valve, turned on a hot faucet, then quickly open the cold valve. The high-pressure kick-started the system. Thanks again
Thank you so much for this video! It helped us so much! Our Rinnai v65i which runs on propane, quit working mid use about a week ago. It gave no error codes and made no noise when the water was on. My husband tried troubleshooting by checking the fuse and looking online. With my advanced millennial TH-cam skills, I was able to find this video and show it to my apathetic, gen-X hubby. Cleaned the filter and the problem was solved!
Take it easy on Hubby. We have a lot to deal with... I enjoy finding solution and fixing things, and have a high skill level...being a dentist. Glad the fix worked! (I'm also good at finding things on the internet)
When you had this issue does yours not sound like it is running at all? Mine stopped working this morning, and cannot hear it running at all. Assuming that the little propeller has stopped. ***Did the exact same fix to mine, and it worked like a charm. The spinner/propeller was stuck.
DO NOT BUY RINNAI!! Seven months after my first request Rinnai is FINALLY sending me some parts. They still haven't paid for the service call, covered under warranty. AND they say they won't pay for installation of parts because I used PAM to get my wheel spinning. The repair tech squirted 3 in 1 oil in there!!!! Cover their warranty = Not going to happen, too busy covering their ass. My Unit has done this 4 more times since I did this video, once just av few days ago...and always at an inconvenient time.

Great idea! This got my Rinnai working again in just a few minutes. Hot showers are back!
You’re the man! It works! Thank you!

Thank you for sharing this- it got our hot water working again. I think the flow sensor gets stuck from minerals in our water.
Mine has been fine since I got the new parts and installed them, about 6 weeks ago. . Before that it got ridiculous, once every other week or so.
Thanks this helped me out!

Thanks.....just the water flush on the empty system did the trick. You da man!
You need a flow switch that's what senses the water. If it doesn't sense the water the heater I'll never come on
Obviously it works, just stops sometimes.
I tried this method due to having the same issue and it still doesn't work. Did you have the system on when you were testing for the whir sound?
No, the system is off. It is a mechanical high pitched noise, not driven by a motor.
Thanks

Lol cool dude
Geodew these units come with a 5 year parts and labor warranty. You should just have the flow control valve replaced.
I've contacted Rinnai , but their customer service is not very good.
Horrendous customer service.....
