Great video. Your guys' pragmatic approach to sales is refreshing. Any insight or advice on how to, I guess, not let the CRM interface overwhelm you and hijack your ability to manage your pipeline? In previous roles and especially my current one, one big area of stress I've experienced has had to do with busy screens with buttons in awkward positions, or irrelevant information clogging up the screen and pulling focus away from staying on task. I'm specifically referring to the CRM itself, not necessarily multiple open tabs and other applications. I know you touched on this a little bit in the video, but any additional insight at all would be helpful. Thanks!
Hard to answer because there are a lot of different CRMs. They are supposed to make your life easier, but I understand they are not all created equal. My advice is to go deep into the tool and make a good effort to become proficient in the CRM. Some of my favorite CRM's and sales tools were ones I initially found overwhelming. If it is still truly holding you back, then do the minimum to 'check the box' with your management in the CRM, and the rest outside the system in excel.
@@Connor-Murray Thanks for the advice. I've contemplated going the Excel route if things don't get better, but yeah, I gotta just keep pressing forward. In the meantime I've provided some feedback to management on a couple of settings that I would like to see tweaked, and so far it's been positively received. I'm staying optimistic at this point. Keep posting the great content.
Hey Connor great content ! Would you recommend someone with no tech sales experience but with around 4 years work experience in customer facing roles to apply directly for account executive roles ? Or to apply first for SDR/BDR roles?
It wouldn't be my recommendation, but some people can pull it off. I generally recommend swallowing your pride, taking an SDR/BDR role for a year, and learning from the ground up. A lot less pressure to immediately perform this way as well. And ideally you can leverage your experience to land an SDR job at a top tier company
Big fan of both of you guys. On minute 20 rn where u guys are talking about work/life balance. I just started my job and am cranking out a standard 40 hour work week…I think it’s great work life balance. Am I missing something?
No, it is a great work life. The point I was making is based off of a lot of incoming BDR's I've talked to. There is sometimes the perception that Tech Sales is a 'Laptop Job' where you can work mostly on your own hours. In most cases, Tech Sales is still a 9-5 type career when you're starting out

Any insight on how to narrow the job search?
Too many ways to take this question. Depends on your criteria: In-person vs. remote, large company vs. startup, desired career trajectory, etc
