I first covered this song over 3 years ago and thought I'd redo it because some parts of my old cover were a bit sloppy, and especially considering that I want to start covering all of We Are Not Alone! Also planning to redo my old covers of other songs I've done from We Are Not Alone as I get through the album :)
Hey, I have been watching your covers over the years and appreciate your accuracy, detail and overall talent! Wanted to know what you thought about this, from what I see Ben do and what the guitar stems sound like, the final chord for the first chorus I believe is the 10th fret on all strings except the 1st string. Because it has some higher notes in it and that's what it looks like Ben does and it sounds accurate. I dont see him bar it though he leaves the pinky and ring on the 10th and just moves his index under from the 8th fret. Just curious your thoughts!

Definitely, I never learnt on an acoustic, I've yet to own one too. I suggest starting with a cheap electric if you do so, though.

Edit: So I actually watched it a few times, but it sounds awesome! All of your covers are amazing! You are a very talented guitar player and I actually sometimes play guitar, but I only got on riff down which was Down... Being honest I didn't even get that down right. Maybe I'll get good someday! I tried red cold river and got the sliding part when he screams "TRYYYYY TO FIIIIIIIND A REEEEAAAASOOOOON TO LIIIIIIIIVE," but that's because it's easy! But anyways keep making good videos and covers! What am I saying? It isn't possible for you to make a bad one!

Thanks! Just distortion and some delay for the clean and lead parts.
I think that was some post-processing to the signal after recording the cover to increase the volume at that point, if I remember correctly.
Id love to see tabs of the way you play solo... looks way more “boxxed” and smooth than all the tabs out there...

What effects and settings did you use for this song? I want to cover this song with my band and I'd love to know some tips on how to enhance the performance. Thanks!
Here's a quick breakdown:- The clean guitar in the intro uses a strong compression (so the low open notes don't drown out the higher notes) and slight delay.
- The main rhythm guitar just has slight compression to tighten the sound.
- Intro lead uses a slightly different tone to the rhythm (more mid range, much less distortion) and uses a delay and chorus.
- Verse lead is the same as the intro lead except without the chorus, focusing more on the delay.
- Solo is simply a stripped down version of the intro lead (no delay or chorus) with more distortion, slightly louder and a touch of reverb. Sort of tone you'd use for an old school rock solo.

My best advice would be just because you can't play something now, doesn't mean you can't play it in the future if you put the time and dedication into it. Set small goals and you'll see huge improvements when you look back on your progress every few months.

Hey what is the lead part during the verses? I've always wondered since Aaron seems to be strumming a lot more than the 14-12-15-14 melody thing. Do you have tabs available?
Check out the tab on Songsterr, I've updated it recently. It's the delay on top of this lead part that makes it sound more than it actually is.

Okay, so to make it clear the reason I do not cover Deftones is because I honestly never got into them, and the main reason I couldn't cover Tempest (I just checked it out now) is that it seems to be played on an 8-string guitar, which I do not have. If there are some cool or fun to play Deftones songs you can suggest that are played on a 6 or even 7 string, I'll consider covering them.
Ohhh ok I feel you man ! And I want you to know that I didn't mean to be rude at all when I said that I was too bad you weren't making Deftones covers. And it's fine if you never got into them, totally. I knew that "Tempest" is played on a 8-string, I just thought it could be played on a 7, even on a 6-string. But since, I'm a drummer and not a guitarist (yet), I wasn't sure.
Abou the songs you could cover, I'm thinking about "My own summer", "Head up" or "Graphic nature". Anyway, I don't know either if either of these songs can be played on a 6 or 7-string.

No no you're not being rude at all haha I just wanted to explain as to why I've never covered them. As for "Tempest", a lot of the parts are jumping between most of the 8 strings and using some of the lowest notes on the lowest string (1st fret) so it would have to be played on an 8 only unfortunately.
Just checked, "My Own Summer" and "Head Up" are in Drop C# on a 6 string, so they're definitely doable. Not "Graphic Nature" though, that's on an 8 string like "Tempest" it seems.

I learn most songs by ear, unless I'm in a rush then I might use a mix of both.
@@fgeo91 Would you be open to ever doing a tutorial of your process of learning by ear? I just started learning solely by ear and for some reason BB is one of the hardest bands for me to learn that way personally because they usually have so much going on in their music.
It's not really something I can teach but something that develops over time the more you do it, like any other skill. My tip for a band like BB that use two (sometimes three) different guitar parts is to try to separate the parts in your head and learn each rhythm/lead section separately. Use a DAW such as Reaper, Logic, Cubase etc. to slow down the song if you have to, this makes learning fast solos (not necessarily BB) much easier.
You will get better at this the more time you put into it.

At 3:44, I saw Ben play it live, it was a power cord but instead of 466, it's a 456. He plays it obscured I'm not sure what type of cord that's called though

Yeah the 4-5-6 Ben plays on the G-C-D is the same as the 11-10-11 I play on the C-G-C, I just find it more convenient to play as it's right next to the 10th fret power chord that's played beforehand.

First song I ever heard from them. Granted 'We Are Not Alone' wasn't their best album, IMO
It's not their very best but it's incredible in its own right. Every song on this album bar maybe "Forget It" and "Rain" are amazing songs.
