Great! I am always amazed at people who don't use stories, they are such a gift for maths. You can find some maths in almost any story, but there are some that are a complete gift. A remainder of one by Elinor J Pinczes is my favourite as it was the first one I did a videoconference (as it was then) with. Have you seen 10 Seeds, Ruth Brown, beautiful illustrations and a gift for counting and growing topic in the Early Years. (This was just what I was doing 10 - 15 years ago - my booklist is still out there somewhere.) Keep up the good work!
Hi Cherri! Lovely to hear from you! I agree, they are a real gift and there are som many written out there specifically to draw the maths from - we are spoilt! I love A remainder of one, I’ve actually got 2 copies on my shelf, since o kept loaning it out and couldn’t bear to be without it! I haven’t seen 10 Seeds, I will look it up. I’m really interested in learning more about the work you have done that Rebecca mentioned. Could you point me in the right direction of where I can see it? Thanks Cherri, I plan to do lots more! I think it’s a wonderful way to teach 😀
Sara this video is just fabulous - I"m so impressed. Well done! I'm fully committed for the rest of 2020 but in 2021 I'd love to explore what I can do to support and promote you. Have you every worked with Cherry Moseley? Right - time to go and great ready for BSRLM today - I'll be impressed if the workshops are anywhere near as good as this video!
Thank you so much Rebecca, very kind of you. Please feel free to get in touch when you have more time and we can chat. I don’t know Cherry, I will look her up, thank you. A Saturday full of maths workshops? I hope they are good! 😀
@@CuriousMaths some really powerful ones on maths teaching during covid. Very timely as I have a book chapter to write on this by Wednesday. Cherry Moseley was the established UK research expert on maths through stories. I've not heard her pushing this for about 10 years but if you read older UK articles on this it's likely she was involved in those. She did her PhD on it I think or something like that. I have a math story list she put together somewhere...
