@@pappyrichard well I’m glad you show the good and the bad. Swatting at defensive bees always makes things worse. Also, your suit may have some left over pheromones that made the bee check you out. However, you should be able to stand next to that hive without being harassed. There’s a difference between aggressive and defensive behavior. If you get bumped repeatedly or stung without opening the lid, consider requeening. After 4 years of dealing with a Russian Hybrid that got more defensive and then aggressive after a few years I bought gentle bees. After having gentle Italians I no longer tolerate bees that I can’t stand next to without a veil.

This was actually a swarm that I had just hived. I guess they hadn’t quite settled down yet. They are doing great after moving them home.
