I think something I love about Waffles is that when an art supply doesn't work as expected(like the water colors) she doesn't really say, "It's a bad product!" But says, "It doesn't work like I thought it would, but then maybe I just don't know how to use them..." because it's just such a sweet and positive way to review supplies.
yea, rae always says that supplies are bad if her artwork doest goes well while waffles is different. she always says how it doesnt goes how she expected but maybe thats cuz she doesnt knows to use them (supplies). and yeah sometimes supplies are bad but not always lol. so yeahhh... conclusion: supplies arent always bad sometimes you just gotta learn how to use it. and rae is giving me vibes and feeling that most of supplies are awful so you feel like you cant get good supplies for good art

@@RYFT0R I agree. I believe that you can still make beautiful art with "bad" art supplies. It's just that people make it seem like you need some expensive supplies to make some good art. I don't watch Rae, but seeing how you described her, it seems like she doesn't really know that.

For me, art block happens when I’m depressed. I have a hard time being creative and productive. It’s hard because i normally love making art, but when I’m depressed, making art can be draining. Which isn’t too good for an art youtuber haha tips that have helped me personally with my art block include: drawing something in private and with no plans to show anyone. I also like to go out to museums and seeing other artists work up close and personal usually revs me right up! Thank you Pancake for opening up about it! 🥞 plus it’s impossible for you

Yessss, I'm starting to experiment with them as well. I've been really down because I've been so zoned in on college that I haven't done anything that I have wanted to do. So I'm trying to get out of that starting with playing with watercolors

Watercolor is my favorite medium! But don't get me started on alchohal based markers, they get dry soo fast and you have to get a lot of colours so alcohol based markerrs are my least favorite medium 😭 ok rant over

I found your channel a couple months ago and I hardly ever comment on any videos in general, but I just wanted to give you a little love here. What you say about art block and anxiety about your art is so spot on and exactly what I feel like I’ve been going through.
I haven’t been able to produce anything I’ve actually loved for months. I was at the point of just packing everything up. But then I found your videos and they just make me happy. I love your style and process. It’s inspiring, really. I want to draw after I watch you.
Personal life things are probably a big part in my block, so it’s still rough. But your words in this video give me hope and the drive to keep trying. Things will get better and I’ll get better. So thank you! Please keep making what you love. 💗

Have you ever tried drawing on oil pastel with a pencil? It goes so shiny! It's like... A matt shiny and so bootiful!!!
I tried oil pastels on pencil and it did not work at all, maybe the other way around would work lol
@@drawingwiffwaffles Yeah, that's what I mean! If you do a layer of oil pastel (I'd rub it with some paper towel as well to make it smooth) then you draw or write with pencil on top (don't try and rub it out, that does NOT work) it goes all shiny and beautiful :3

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing this video and being honest about how you struggled with art block and confidence in this session. I think it's a really key element for every artist, figuring out how to handle art block and insecurities, but it's comforting to share that experience in the community and know we're not alone.
I can't speak for your entire audience, of course, but for me at least, just getting to see you draw what you love and hearing your perspective on art supplies and techniques. It's especially fascinating for me as a person who's never been able to figure out markers and other things that you flourish with. Tl;dr I think you're doing something great, making beautiful art and providing an educational look for younger artists struggling with earlier steps in the craft, and that's awesome, so thanks, and I hope you get all the waffles you can eat.

@@chrisward7064 that's what my teacher trying to get me to do. She used to be a college art teacher so she expects everything to that standard. It's really hard; usually I have less than a week to create a big assignment that requires pencils and all this other stuff.

or those string art where you dip the string into watercolor and layed it on the sketchbook. Then pull away slowly and it makes like a fading effect lol
Waffles, I just want to say you have such a cool art style and you come across with such a bubbly, positive vibe even when things aren’t working out how you like them.
Also, I agree with so many others on here: we appreciate you sharing your frustrated moments as well as the triumphant ones, and we just love seeing you create things. Just do you! We wouldn’t be here watching if we hated your art ;) Your style is so different from mine but that’s kinda why it inspires me honestly. I don’t end up comparing myself with you as much as I would someone else whose style is closer to my own; I just appreciate the YOU in your art :)

hah! no way! I never actually expected to see anything I've owned in these, and then you whip out those metallic watercolours. I felt the same way you did about them, they're pastey, and kinda transparent, some work really well while others are just... meh.

Simple answer just draw all of them
Write them all down on individual pieces of paper, fold em up and get someone to chose one or toss them about and pick one at random. Then draw them in the order they get picked :-)
I started watching your videos in 2018 when I myself was going through what was probably the WORST art block of my life. With each of your videos though, watching you try new things, being open and honest about any 'mistakes' you made, and just watching you draw and draw and just keep on drawing really helped me find inspiration again. I realized that all of my art DIDN'T have to be huge finished illustrations and that I WAS allowed to just have fun in my sketchbook. I'm not at the point where I'm drawing every day, but since discovering your channel I've been drawing so much more than I had been for the past 2-3 years. I'm so thankful for your channel and I'm so happy and excited every time I see a new upload. the videos always get me itching to draw!! I now try to do some fun sketches in my sketchbook while watching your videos now. So just thank you so much for making art commentary videos like this. you're inspiring and your art is so cute! I love watching the trial and error of new and strange art supplies! Hope whatever art block is bothering you goes away soon. :)

In case you’re wondering, Waffles is an improvisation artist. She sees what looks good, and brings out true creativity. That’s why I love her.

I've always hated watercolor (because I only ever had access to crayola and PRINTER paper LOL), but in December, my mom bought me these watercolors from Hobby lobby (their brand, too.), and I'm loving them???? They might not be the best, I do not know since I haven't tried anything else, but I LOVE them!

I adore this video. When you look at everyone on youtube, they are churning out awesome art like crazy. Thing is, they only show their successes. Hardly anyone shares their failed attempts. And that sort of makes one feel even worse about messing up an art piece. However this video is such an inspiration because it reminds us that no matter how good you are, you are bound to have some troublesome days. The trick is to find a way out of it. Awesome video!

I've been struggling quite a bit with a sassy character design and for some reason, the way you draw the starting blocks of a figure suddenly gave me a bit of an idea of how art works again. Thank you so much ^^ I slapped down just a lil sketch to start with and within five seconds it started looking like something decent!
I always relate to your stories and pieces of advice about art block and giving up on art for months at a time. It helps because it makes me realize that I don't suck and that other artists have and are facing the same things. It also helps to just sketch along with your videos and get inspiration from little things or just have drawing company lol. Anyways, thank you for helping a young artist :)

thanks for being honest about art block and showing your 'struggle' process. it made me feel a lot better about my current art block and accept that i'm not going to like everything that i make. (which is so hard, im such a perfectionist!) It can get so hard watching art videos when you have an art block and people just seem to magically create these beautiful pieces without any mistakes or planning or bad days. so it's nice to have someone recognise that it's ok and normal not to be painting the mona lisa every time you put pen to paper. besides, at the end of the day we're all probably still going to learn something from the mistakes and the 'bad' art that we do.
Thanks for sharing you journey. I find it really inspiring and relatable that an artist like you (who to my eyes is whipping art out of every gesture of your wrist....) is having ups and downs, and dealing with how scary this is when creating great content is one of you main incomes (I assume?). We had that pallet at school and layering the pearlecsents over normal watercolors works, but it isn't as shiny as when they're alone :(
