I've been using coffee filters for many years in the bottom of my pots to keep the soil from coming out of the bottom.
WOW you're so blessed to have a sunroom. I had a large sunroom completely stuffed with beautiful healthy plants, many that I'd started years before from a bag of throw aways from my nursery. It broke my heart to watch them freeze when I lost my home. I pray that I will have a home again one day.
It's great to see your granddaughter taking an interest in gardening. I haven't been able to get my children or my grandchildren to be interested in any kind of gardening. Indoors or outdoors. 🙄 It's so frustrating! I know they're mine lol. I had natural childbirth three times and you never forget that! Maybe someday. 🙏
I told my eldest son this spring that I thought it was definitely time to start a VICTORY garden. He gave me the same look as when I asked him if he'd help me start a vegetable/fruit garden when I still had my home. Which meant tilling the soil with a tiller that I knew I couldn't handle. Oh well. I guess if the groceries continue to skyrocket he might get interested. I pray for everyone's sake that they don't get more expensive.
Apartment living is not for the faint of heart when you love to have your hands in the soil.
God bless y'all. Thank you for the information. Great video. Your granddaughter did an awesome job and looks like you've got a green thumb too! 🌵🌺🪴🌱🌻🌞🐝💐

      Hello Tracy,
I like to use paper towels because by the time the soil has settled with food roots it has broken down naturally. But, sounds like you were successful with coffee filters too☺️👍🏻
So sorry you are more restrictive now in being able garden but have you considered patio gardening. Maybe you already do that.
I know what you mean as not all my grandchildren have a love for gardening either and none are as intensive as I am with it. I have a tendency to overdo because I like being creative & growing food but then I see all the work in the upkeep and tell myself I need to scale down as I get older. God bless 🌸

Thank you so much - you've given me the encouragement to re-pot my very pot-bound Aloe Vera this afternoon, a job I should probably have done about 5 years ago! I now have seventeen new plants just from my one old fella! I shall keep three and give the others to friends and neighbours as soon as they are established in their new pots. :-)

Thank you for this video! I have searched for a long time looking for info on how to repot my older, very top heavy, aloes. I never thought of taking off the droopy bottom leaves like you did and planting them deeper. I always cut off the offending leaves with scissors and now my plants look like aloe trees! Thanks to you I know how to manage their overgrowth correctly. :)

If you do that every time, you could eventually need an awfully deep pot. Another way to handle it is to actually cut off the stem above the roots, leaving just a few inches to place back under the soil, so that it will grow an entire new, healthy, root system...like this professional Aloe grower shows:
      Aloe Vera Plant Care:
      - Removing Pups & Leaves

2Q&Lrn the bottom roots will break down and new roots do form higher up. That was a great demonstration that you can cut off roots and just leave 3” and replant. I learned something😊
I was thinking it was not guaranteed that would be successful but glad to see it only took a few months to make new roots.

I realize this tutorial was 2 years ago but if I'd had this aloe vera plant back then, I'd have found you. YOU are the best!! I have an aloe vera that was horribly bent. Once I pulled back all those skinny leaves, there was actually a root growing farther up on the stalk like in the middle. I think that's what made it lean so badly. I'm going to plant it in the next few days. I've laid it on its side with gloves on top hoping to straighten it out a little. Thanks again for this video!!! I learned a lot!😁🙏

I remember getting burnt on my cheek while I was away on a church trip and when I went to visit she gave me a piece to help with the healing process and removing the scar.... and this was the only thing that cleared my cheek of the burn!! KaShica Stewart Glad you enjoyed the video. I use my pups (the baby plants that come up off the mother plant)
But I have seen other videos where you can place a leaf in water to get a new plant. I have never done that. You should be able to find an Aloe Vera plant at your local garden center. I have pups You could have but at this time I am not mailing my plants. I may do this at a later time. Hope you can find one in your local area. God bless

YAH T. Sonya if your leaves are curling in that is because the need more water. It is good that you have them inside in a sunny room. But sometimes what happens if you put a plant directly in front of a southern window it will be too much direct light and leaves can turn brown and curl especially if not watered enough. One positive thing about an Aloe being near a southern window is that it has more of a chance to produce a flower. So what I do is put the plant to the right or left of the window or make sure it is a foot away or possibly drop or turn the blinds a bit to reduce sun a little. I have so many Aloe plants that depending on where they are in the room they behave differently.

2Q&Lrn yes that is a good way to get pups. I do not grow mine in ground but in pots so you can follow the same idea but tilting the pot sideways and pulling mother plant out. Sometimes this is not necessary if your soil is Loose enough to reach down in along main stem of mother plant. You can often pull up the pups without disturbing the main mother plants if you are careful. Blessings🌺

I bought an aloe vera in a 4 inch cup along with a pothos. I'm proud to say, I had to repot my beautiful aloe into a 5 gallon bucket with its other 2 aloes. I'm going to take 2 out and put each of those in their own 5 gallon buckets because they're all so big and juicy, lol.

Reign Lhyt of Gratitude i am of the understanding that the Aloe roots do not need a lot of soil. They like to stay on the dryer side. So you want your pot to be large enough to give the roots room but not too much. Unless you are reporting a very large plant that has a long neck and needs the depth to form new roots. I am working on another video I hope to get our soon about that 😊

alethea wells hello, If what you mean by “clip it” is taking leaves off. I would say that once you use all the leaves but the young new growth in center you should let regrow. I have yet to put together a video on what I do but am working on that. Mostly use it in my hair by blending gel with vinegar as a rinse. I also use internally in smoothies and drinks for gut health. I plan to get something out in future when time allows. But, there are several TH-cam’s others have put out on removing gel and how it is used. You shouldn’t have trouble finding them. Hopefully I will get to mine soon😊

I was gifted a very large nice aloe with many pups. I repoted but didn't know to remove the bottom leaves so thank you for the proper way to repot. My question, as the plant continues to grow in height and the stem/root system keeps getting longer over time how do you compensate for this without going to huge pots to provide room for such a long underground stem.

    • @Gods_creation.His_harvest

If soil is already slightly damp it bay be best to let it sit a few days then water just enough for it to cover top of pot. But if soil is dry then you can water but again just enough to cover top of pot and then wait till soils is fairly dry to water again. It is important that soil doesn’t dry out for to long between watering especially if you are trying to form new roots. Hope that helps☺️

I have taken mother plants like that and used a big pot to repot it so that I didn’t have to kill the original root. But since then I’ve reconsidered because you can just cut it off removing some of the lower leaves especially if they don’t have gel in them, leaving about a 2 inch stem just sat inside of another pot that will be big enough to hold the plant and keep it moist but don’t overwater and it should grow back new roots it may not flower the next year but it depends on what kind of lighting it has whether it will flower or not eventually. If you watch the video and maybe a few of my others I think it would help you to know what to do

Then I take that concentrate and put about 1/3 to 1/2 and bottle and fill rest with water. I squirt that on my head after I wash it and I don’t rinse it out it stimulates my pores on my scalp act as a softener and helps my hair grow😊
One caution is that it can get in your eyes so keep them shut and then rinse my face off before I get out the shower but I don’t rinse it off my head.
