Robert was my granddaddy’s uncle, and though he passed 10 years before I was born, it’s comforting to know that he left such an imprint on our beautiful spot of coast line. He had a sad ending but obviously lived a happy life full of friends and admirers while enjoying the slow Island ways. Thank you for sharing his story!

Robert was my grandmother's uncle, i believe. Lela Harrill, married name Lela Davis. i think we might be cousins.
family lore about Robert was darker than his legacy now. who knows what was the truth. regardless, i've yet to go to Wilmington and visit his home, but i need to.

Newton Cemetery is where my original ancestors are buried . The wandered into the Cape Fear River in 1742 and settled in Federal Point . Generation or so later family started settling in Southport NC across the river . Originally 200 acres of Newton land it has a very interesting history . Great You Tube video . Thanks for showing the original homestead and cemetery .

I use to walk that trail a couple times a month. It's beautiful out there. I'm glad you mentioned the mosquitoes. They are ridiculous around his bunker. They will carry you away depending on the time of year. Great video!

I was almost carried away by those blood suckers. Such a cool place to hang out though.

@@DraysWorld absolutely. Right across the Cape Fear from Ft Fisher is another cool place. Ft Anderson and Brunswick Town.

I imagine the punks that killed him are still alive today. Maybe one of them will confess their sinful deed and save their soul. The police chief that covered their crime, well it's to late for him.

Very familiar with Harrill, but never heard of the second hermit, the pastor, or the pier preaching!

In late summer, the newborn sea turtles would hatch. Many couldn't make it to the sea. They'd get stuck in the four-wheel drive tracks in the sand. The sun would roast them. Ft. Fisher. So much for Protective Species ¿

Grew up in Wilmington, remember well when he died. Respectfully done, only one gentle point of constructive criticism. Please pronounce "Kure" correctly! It's "Cure-ee." Thank you!
