I grew up in a divided house. Parents always fought and never agreed on anything. Tried to get me and my siblings to take sides all the time. It was rough. I’d go in my room and watch the Waltons along with Little House on the Prairie just so I could escape the chaos and dream about having a loving family environment of my own. At 30 years old, I still hope for a family of my own that is full of love the way the Waltons were.
Agreed with you, watching The Waltons bring peace to our spirits and dream to would have a family like them, full of love, respect to each other, a father who shows so much love for his wife, therefore the best example for their children. Even though we didn't get that, maybe some day we're gonna be able to find someone with good heart, humble and afraid of God. Well, we"re just dreaming.
It is a blessing that my family was always together and stayed close. My family was like the Waltons and we still are in a lot of ways. The only thing I didn't like about my childhood was that we were always poor in our live in 8 people family house, they made up for it with extra siblings. My poor Father worked 3 to 4 jobs at a time. I didn't even develop a strong relationship with him until he retired. He literally was the absolute best Dad any kid could ask for. He made sure our Mother was able to be home with us kids. 💞💞💞💞🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I was searching for 'A Christmas Story' and found this instead and decided to watch it. It's a week before Thanksgiving 2023. My parents passed away in 2021 and my brother shortly after. This somehow makes me feel close to them even though they are no longer here. I'm 53 now. We watched the Waltons together as a family, us kids laying on the living room floor. It's the only show my dad thought was wholesome enough for us to watch. I sure miss the simple and beautiful way of life from long ago.
I completely understand.. Most of my family has passed on.. parents, grandparents etc. the rest of my family live in other states etc. I get very sentimental this time of year, sad and just longing and yet very nice memories of days gone by with family surrounding me. Happy Holidays.
Im going to be 60 in February and I always wish the same thing would happen. And when I lost my Mom to COVID-19 life has really changed. I always wish I would have children cause I said I would never treat them the way I was but that never happened cause I needed a compliment hysterectomy at 36. I went from being beat as a child to carrying it into my marriage. 😮😢 I hope you can get a chance to have what you want your in my prayers. God Bless and I hope you have awesome Holiday season 🎄🎀🤗❤️💞😇🙏🏻
I used to watch this show almost religiously back in the early seventies. It was on this show that I first saw Sissy Spacek and I've been a fan of her's ever since!😊
I've always loved this movie. I grew up in a family with 13 children and we watched the Waltons on a regular basis. Watching this makes me cry because I miss those simpler days. A few of my siblings have passed and mostly everyone else is scattered across the country. We grew up dirt poor but the memories I have are so vivid of a house filled with Christmas cheer and excitement. Even though we normally only each got a special gift and a pair of socks, we were so grateful just to sing carols and decorate the tree. Boy oh boy, those were some really great times! It's only November but Merry Christmas everyone! 🎄
Omg, I grew up with 9 other brothers and sisters! We lost our parents, grandparents and one brother to cancer. Its brings me back to the days of fun, hardships and love. We didn't have much, but were satisfied with what we had. Simple life, we truly cared about each other. I watched reruns with my mom up to when she died, so this show makes me happy but sad at the same time.
Robin and connie , you both wrote such wonderful stories of your life . I envy you both ....and totally understand how it may have felt. I only had one sister who was I'll, so I spent my childhood looking after her ... ...then my dad became terminally I'll at such a young age. All I can say is somehow , even I was humble and appreciated simple things. ....and that family came first . They were my world. I used too adore my father talking about his youthful "huckle berry fin " days , ...wandering and playing in their farm with no shoes on. Lol. He too came from large family , 7 brothers and sisters. You're both right ....they were brilliant times back then. Quieter, less stressful, more fun, loving and adventurous. I too feel blessed we lived in those times before the internet .....took over our lives and changed everything. I call our childhood era , the " golden raw days " Wish we could all go back and live that life again. At least we can immerse ourselves into the waltons family .... ...and join them in everything they do , feeling like we belong there forever... .....I often cry at how beautiful and powerful all their stories are . I would be lost without them . 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

freedom moon....you are an inspiration to all of us! You put your life on hold to care for your sister and your father. That is true love. Alot of people never experience the true meaning of love. It is very sad that these special memories are of the past, but we have to be grateful we had them. I too took care of my parents till the end, no regrets. I will be going through losing each of my brothers and sisters as we are all getting older. It will be hard, but the memories will keep me going. When you reach a certain age, the road ahead is much shorter than the road behind. Be happy that you did the loving thing by taking care of them. I hope you live a long happy life, may God bless you. Take care my friend!
It was all so simple at one time. The world - this country - has always had its problems and issues, but things just used to be so very simple. It was family, working hard, obeying your parents and elders, knowing everyone in your community, and looking forward to the simplest things, and holidays truly meant something. A lifetime ago...
This was my Momma's absolute favorite movie. It came out when I was two years old. Unbelievably, I had never seen it until I was nearly forty years old. One Christmas she asked me to come over and watch it with her. It was then that she told me about it, and when it was first aired all of those years ago. I absolutely fell in love with it and I have watched it, I don't even know how many times now. My Momma has been gone 9 years now and I can tell you that this movie keeps me close to my Momma. Patricia Neal is so close in nature to my Mother so it is an absolute comfort to me. I loved the Walton's series, but absolutely nothing compares to the Pilot "The Homecoming". This movie will continue to be my favorite, and my comfort, until I reunite with my Momma in Heaven in our own Homecoming❤❤❤.
They were day's when children were taught to obey the parents and call elders aunty or grandma or grandpa. Lived more simply ,and what you don't hear so much among children and adults. Knowing the Lord as their Savior

2023, i still watch this movie, and all the tv show episodes on the Hallmark station, every night. Im 75yrs old. I cant go to sleep without the Waltons on. Im the oldest of 6, we lived on our grandparents farm for 3 yrs when i was a teenager. It was in tge early 60s, times were hard. Christmas was just a little something each. But we had plenty of Christmas cookies, every kind my Mom could think of to make. A fruit cake, one year, she made plum pudding! I loved it. I miss our Mom and Dad so much, miss seeing all my siblings very often. The Waltremind me of those hard times. With all the love they showed each other, it was such a loving, caring show. When you have family, its the best thing in the world. I wish everyone could have such good memories.
I’m only 18 and The Waltons hold such a dear place in my heart. I grew up watching it with my grandparents, and sitting next to my grandfather in their bedroom at night while he watched over my sleeping grandmother. We’d sit and watch the show and he’d interject to tell me a story about how that was just how it was when he was a kid. I watched it with my family when we moved states and it brought me comfort to know that family would protect and love me even when I had no one else. I’m sitting here, writing this as I remember those memories. My grandparents passed away Valentines of last year and I couldn’t bring myself to watch The Waltons until now. I may not have grown up during the golden years of this show, but never discredit how much this story can mean to those who are younger
The Waltons’ Homecoming really was the pilot for the series The Waltons. I watched the Waltons with my brothers & mother every Thursday at 8:00 for this program. Since my father worked shift work he did not always have an opportunity to watch with us but did watch when he could. I do wish there were wholesome family oriented shows like this today with lessons behind them and no violence, foul language, or indecent attire. This program has been in syndication since it’s premiere in 1972. The Homecoming movie aired in 1971. The Walton’s is based on the life of Earl Hamner Jr./his entire family. Earl Hamner Nara rates at the beginning/ at the end of every episode. **** I ❤️ it so much when they all say good night 😴💤 to each other at the end of each episode. This is a show that folks like to view to bring them to a happy time away from the problems of the world at present and crime with hatred, prejudice, violence, drugs, alcoholism and so forth. The Waltons brings viewers back back to a time when troubles like today were absent but depression surely was as well as hard times.😊😊😊❤❤❤
Glad the series had a new Olivia, John Sr, and Grandpa! We were at choir practice when it came on on Thursday's but we bought a VHS recorder so we could watch it later. I watch these over and over and over on Amazon Prime.
I remember watching this with my parents. My Mom and I cried and my Dad was choked up as well. My Dad bought pistachio nuts for us. Great evening. But unfortunately I was a 16 year old brat. Didn't appreciate my parents until much later. Miss them so much. Love and miss you Mom and Dad and thank you for everything!!!! Hugs
I remember watching this with my parents and siblings..... My parents are both gone now my mom in 2014 and my dad in 2017 and I still cry.... I am praying for the memories that you hold to bring you comfort.
I was 10 years old when I first watched this TV movie with my 2 brothers, my beloved Portuguese born mother and our sweet father who just turned 90 in May. We lost mommy in 2017 and our baby brother Patrick last November, 2019 at the age of 51. I cherish these times and miss them dearly, but they live in my heart and in my memory. Goodnight, mommy and daddy, Michael and Patrick and may God bless and love us forever!!!
My mom was born and raised in the island of São Miguel in the Portuguese Açores and we watch the Walton’s has a family every week. I’ll never forget those memories and wish our country would stay this way. But unfortunately it looks like the other side wants to abolish family values, Christianity and the family unit. God bless us!!!
John-Boy had a bigggggggggggg impact on my life at the time. I was a sensitive, impressionable teenboy about the same age and he became my hero. I was also a writer of sorts and because of him I started keeping a journal which meant a lot to me. I'm sad even now that I didn't continue with it. When I went off to college in '75 I didn't watch any more but The Waltons, and John-Boy, and certainlyThe Homecoming will always have a place in my heart. I praise God in Christ that this show was such a blessing to a fellow whose parents had divorced.
I grew up on a farm much like the Waltons. We did chores without giving a second thought. We knew that everyone had a job for the betterment of the farm. I am now 60 and still hold those values.
I was raised on a small farm during the 70's. We always had beef and hogs and chickens. Dad kept 3 freezers full of meat. And we had 3 gardens every summer. Mom and Dad canned all summer long. I ask Dad why we had so much food all the time. He told me "I was hungry most always when I was a kid. Me and my family will never be hungry like I was ". I helped with the animals feeding, watering and butchering. And in the gardens. Dad taught me to shoot, hunt, fish and trap. Thanks to my parents raising me like they did, me and my kids and woman will never be hungry either.
@@OdantiI'm well thanks for asking Debbie, I'm pleased to meet you. I was born and raised in Cavan Ireland but moved to Chicago Illinois with both my parents ago time ago. Hope you are staying safe from the virus! I would like us to be friends and get to know each other much better, Hope you don't mind?
The fact that so many people have expressed their love for the Waltons for 40 years, and watch the episodes over and over, never getting tired of it, shows how powerful it is. The love and respect the family has for each other, getting through the tough times, and in the end, all were tucked in for the night. Yes, there were skirmishes between them, they fought every now and then, like all families. But love always prevailed. The Waltons will never get old.
What a beautiful moving episode of The Waltons! Everyone got one present and they cherished the one they got. An example of appreciation that were instilled in them. Beautiful! Goodnight everybody!
This was the first one. Was meant as a one time show for Christmas. It was an instant hit. I loved it, and the first Little house Christmas special. We were already heading away from family, Jesus, and puling together in hard times.
@@kellymcfalls1458Probably because the Teddy bear 🧸 was actually a new novelty item back then and named after president Teddy (Theodore) Roosevelt whom I believe was actually their current U.S. president
I just got a cable company that shows the Waltons at 4 o'clock. I do believe it's my favorite show of all time. I do find myself crying at nearly every episode. I am 57 and remember laying on the floor with my brothers watching this. Awe, the memories. How this show touches my heart.
When things are made right, they last forever, same with this movie. What a cast of talented people, from lille Elizabeth to grandpa Walton. It makes me laugh seeing grandpa , the actor toying with the radio, was a famous star ,back in the great depression
Hi Scott, i just read your comment! Im almost 58, and I watch this movie every year at Christmas about ten times!! I bought my mom a dvd also. She loves it so much and saysit reminds her of her childhood. Shes 91 now and the last one left in her famiky and the last of the original residents in her neighborhood. Everyone is dead and gone, and now its either their kuds or grandkids or steangers. We had hard times, too. Im the middle of 9 kids. I xan relate to this movie somewhat. My first trip to Jackson Hole in 2015, we were headed up Teton Pass and I was looking in the valley and saw barns and fencing and a hay shed. I told my boyfriend who was driving tge rv, that sonething seemed strangley famaliar about thatt ranch down there, and it looked like the Waltons place on The Homecoming. Then later I found out I was right!! Its still an operating guest ranch!!! My bf was born in MT, raised on a guest ranch in Dubois, Wy., just 80 miles from JH. We just recently bought 11 acres there, and will spend the summers out there and winter in Sweet Home Alabama! Ps, they just dont make movies like this anymore. Im sure some will find this trivial, but I dont care. Look at our country now, led by insanitt and greed. Thoae people have forgot how it is to just go fishing, or jump on a Harley and take off thru the countryside, if they ever knew before.
I’m 34 years old. I didn’t grow up with this, but my mom did. Made me bawl all the way through ❤ wish times were still like this. Obviously not the depression but the people, family, hard working, the respect, appreciation with so little.
The Advent of social media and cell phones have Robbed the citizens of this country of the communication skills that you see in this movie. Enjoy your new life America. I will NEVER engage with you. For me face to face and eye contact conversations are all that matter.
What a beautiful movie! Family bonding, family values and religion played a significant role in the past. And now it’s like we are living in a cold tunnel with no hope of returning back. 😢miss all this.
Omgosh, I so forgot about listening to soap opera on the radio & in Español. Gracias for waking that memory. Despite my "Mamà" not speaking or understanding much English, she encouraged us to watch "The Waltons" & other beautiful wholesome series. I lost her 15yrs ago, however there is so much the is a constant reminder, especially in the kitchen, 🎶, when I hand stitch, look up at the figures in the Thunder clouds, love for plants, Praising Padre God for the strength to no longer allow the bad times of my childhood ruin my life. THAT is just one of many miracles I'm Blessed with & I pray its hopefully a life lesson for those that can relate. Peace be with everyone, Feliz Christmas & "2024" 🙏
This show is a wonderful time , of what life used to be, speaking of Jesus in the home, simpler times. Hits the heart ❤️ with warmth, make you feel cozy all over!
THE HOMECOMING PILOT FOR THE WALTONS - This is truly a legacy of love, friendships, family, the mountains and good times even in the depression. A gift to all of us viewers who love great movies and shows. Thank you
Hey, the first time I went up Teton Pass in Wyoming, I got to a side window in our motohome to look out over Jackson Hole. We were still in Wilson headed up the pass. I looked down and saw a barn, and a hay barn that looked all too familiar to me! But I had never been there! I thought, well that looks JUST like where the Waltons The Homecoming was filmed. After doing some research later on, what I had seen was EXACTLY that! Its a guest ranch in Wilson, and thats where the exterior scenes were done. The general store was actually a garage where some guy worked on cars. There are videos here on YT of those child actors playing in the snow in the town square of Jackson. They stayed at The Virginian Hotel, which is still in operation. The famed attorney, Gerry Spence, still has an office very near The Virginian. Went thru there 4 times this summer!
I love this movie! I've been watching since I was about 13 years old. I'm 62 now. And I sometimes watch it, several times through out the year. I've tried to get my grand kids interested. Times have changed. Kids have changed. I just love the message of a loving family, who's happy because they are a loving family. I wish times were like this again.
Hello how are you doing today, my honest and sincere apologies forgive me for dropping this message here but I will love to be friend with a God fearing, loving, and caring woman which you're hope no offense?
When I was young there weren't a lot of tv shows my mom would let us watch. But The Waltons was one we all watched together. Still watch it to this day, probably know all the scripts by heart.💖 It lets me remember the better days and wish that children of today had the same values and morals taught to them as we did then. Thank you for the memories this show brings me every year.
The Walton's, Bonanza, The Carol Burnett Show, The Wonderful World of Disney, Columbo are the only shows I recall off hand being 'family together shows'. Now that I look at that list I wish mom was still alive so I could ask why she took a shine to Columbo. :D
I grew up watching the Waltons and little house on the prairie, Life seemed so much simpler then, but I imagine it was a lot harder than it looked. I’m 62 now and find myself looking back rather than looking forward. Oh to be sat in my childhood home watching this with my parents , special times
I watched this movie today for the first time, I’m 69 yrs old, it was so great, Patricia Neal so touching. John boy and all the kids were wonderful, one of my all time movies now!!!
simple times through tv. Many women died during childbirth and men could almost get away with violence toward their wives and divorce was frowned on even in abusive situations- no thanks
I recall watching this with my sister. We had our pillows and blankets on the floor in front of our old floor model telli that had no cable back then and you had to get up to turn the dial. The show came after and we watched it every week. I long for the simplicity of those bygone days when I was a sprout. At 54 now, life is so much different. The lessons we no longer teach our children need to become popular again. Respect, community, patience and manors all seem lacking in our current world. I pray it becomes fashionable again. Blessings to all.
so true! Happy Holidays! I'm sitting here eating spaghetti tonight because the turkey didn't thaw out. lol Most of my family is now a long way away or passed on. Time of the year that really brings out the sentiments etc. I'm over 60 so I really do get it.
@@crazyaces4042 Just seeing your comment. I remember the year I didn’t put the Crown Roast in on time because it was the first and only time I even attempted one, and my Dad(now deceased) went out and got a ton of Chinese food take out. It was so funny that we felt like we were the other funny movie with the Bumpas’s dogs!! Your spaghetti thanksgiving reminded me of that year when I did that!! LOL
Merry Christmas 2021. The dearest and purest family Christmas movie I know still. Have watched this for 50 years and even still it moves my heart. There's something to be said for simple times. Johnboy is my favorite of the children because he is like our son, who wasn't even born when this came out. He is now in his 20's, a wonderful writer and is a piano teacher, passing on a beautiful gift to so many children. Merry Christmas everyone, and hug your children and grandchildren, for they grow up all too fast.
I can remember watching this show when I was in high school in the early to mid seventies. I also came from a broken home with a mom who worked long, hard hours to support myself and my three brothers. My father was too busy trying to "find himself" and never lifted a finger to help his children. As soon as I turned 15, I got a part-time job working after school and on weekends. I paid my mom rent to live at home and made sure I had enough left of my paycheck to pay for my clothes and shoes. The rest of my money I put aside to save up for a car. We often shopped at The Salvation Army thrift store for our clothes. Shoes were harder to find and generally purchased on sale from Payless shoes. Many evenings I spent sitting on the floor in our livingrm listening to The Walton's and doing my homework. Even though I thought life was hard for my family, holidays were still special for us. I am now 65 yrs. old and still find that life is hard. Somehow it was easier to get through life's troubles if you had your family to help you through it. My parents are both dead now and we siblings are scattered across the country. I still look back at that time as one of life's lessons for me. Family is so important for living life and more enjoyable too.
All those years ago i watched the Walton Christmas. I can to this day close my eyes and be right back there. Curled up on mom and dads carpet in front of the old Sylvania t.v It's good to watch these shows now, it stirs warm memories of sweet pine, and cinnamon. And mom and dads coffee they were sipping before bed. Im old now and gifts aren't important to me now. What I wish for , is in no store window or in an old fashioned catalogue. It's the memories we all once held so dear of simple things. Less time in stores, more with family. Less time with the t.v., more in church. Less gifts, more love. We all could stand a little Walton Christmas here at the end of August. For those wonderful memories. The peace we all seemed to have. And yes the joy, the simple down to earth no strings attached no charge card needed kind of joy we had all those years ago ........Thanks John boy ...🎄
In 1933 my father was 13 & my mother was 9, but they didn't get married until July 25, 1945. My parents just loved this program because it brought back so many memories, some bad, but mostly good and we made an effort to watch the weekly TV show. They told me that for Christmas, they would usually get a candy cane & an apple or orange & how happy they were to get them. When my father passed away on October 26, 2004, he was 84. My mother is still living and is 96. All of her family are now deceased & so is my father's family. She does have dementia & my sister lives with her in the house they moved to in 1964. My sister is carrying on a family tradition by having a vegetable garden & raising laying chickens. The kind that lay eggs. She does not sell them, but gives them to family & friends. As I have gotten older, I yearn for those gone by days, when we would all gather together on special occasions, especially Thanksgiving & Christmas. For you youngsters out there, please cherish every time you are together with family. What memories you will make!
I'm 71 and enjoy watching these family value shows. So much has disappeared spiritually and morally. Let's pray for people's hearts to turn back to the LORD!!
We need more of this love of family in this world ... back in the day, everything was not about money but family ... Merry Christmas from Western Canada!
Suzanne Marie: What is needed more in the world is people who don't pine for "back in the day" and look at the current world from solely from their own, tiny, homogenous demographic. "Back in the day" had the same problems we have now and some worse societal problems. One's diversity, in their thinking and background, has a direct impact on how they perceive the world's needs.
This is hands down the best ever Christmas TV movie. If anyone wants a break from the typical irreverent silly Christmas movies which we love but are all too many, check this one out with your family for the holidays. It is so underrated. The script is wonderful, the story of course heartwarming, the acting is wonderful. I don't know why they don't show it during the holidays any more; it is so simple and entertaining.
Yeah, most TV movies are crap, but there’ve been a few I’d call truly superb. ‘The Homecoming’, ‘Duel’ and ‘Brian’s Song’ are all TV movies, and all are among the best scripted television to come out of the 1970s.
@@Jenjoshstars2012 I didn’t like those films so much myself. The first one had its moments, but not enough moments. I have a sister who would agree with you, though. I was speaking of TV movies. My favorite cinematic holiday movie is ‘A Christmas Story’.
I’m 59 and I grew up watching The Waltons with my late mom. I still watch each day at 12 noon on our local channel. I noticed that in this movie the mother, father and grandfather are played by different actors, but this is a very good movie! ❤
Just finished watching this heartwarming story right now and feel the exact same way as I did upon my first viewing. I cannot believe how anyone could give this a thumbs down. This is truly a Christmas story worth savoring.
Hello how are you doing today, my honest and sincere apologies forgive me for dropping this message here but I will love to be friend with a God fearing, loving, and caring woman which you're hope no offense?
I watch this over and over again. I’m 56 and loved watching the Waltons as a kid of the 1970s. Reminds me of my Grandma’s family of 8 who grew up during the Depression.
Yes me too . only my grandma had sixteen children. Can you imagine feeding all those kids during the depression and most were boys but they had a farm in New England and they survived . All Except the oldest boy that was killed in the war and one was captured as he parachutted into enemy line but released after the war ended .
How My Dad loved the Waltons, kid here in the Seventies too and was a Thurs nite ritual after Piano lesson in the Church basement, after he cleaned the Church. Would watch with the Ministers Wife. Simpler times
I just felt so good watching this movie last evening. I live alone, but I always get the cozy feeling of peace, love and home from watching this movie. Back in the 1960's, I was a little girl living with two brothers and three sisters and Mom, who was so strong and loving. And she made the best sugar cookies, ginger snaps and thumbprint cookies, too! This movie always brings back those wonderful Christmases from my childhood.
My mother grew up during the Great Depression, so whatever the Waltons went through, my mom's family did too. This movie, & the series that followed were gold to me. My mom would watch the shows & tell me just how things were during her childhood, & how much it was like the Waltons. I watch this movie every year in December. Love it!!
Both of my parents lived though the Great Depression. My Mother's Father owned a small hometown grocery store in Prattville ,Alabama. My Grandfather died suddenly in 1942, at the age of 45, just as the Second World War, was getting started. They lost the store and my Grandmother lived to be 94, years old and never recovered financially from the events that wrecked her, entire, long life. My Dad was born in 1922 and my Mom was born in 1927. Me, born in 1959, so thankful, I have no memory of the Great Depression. But my Mother was affected by it her whole adult .
Darlene my parents grew up during the depression too! As an adult im glad my parents were older by the time I came! And I passed down their old fashioned values to my kids! Like u when watching the Waltons TV show it gave my mom a chance to tell me about her depression experiences!
I grew up watching this show in the 1970s at my granparent's house in Tampa, Fla, along with Little House on the Prairie. Precious memories! I sure miss those days of wholesome t.v. ❤👍🙌
Never tire of watching this story, having spent my youth working and playing in the Appalachians of Virginia...just fills my heart with beautiful memories. 💖

I too grew up watching The Waltons. Sadly I didn't get to watch all episodes due to my leaving home at the age of 14yrs old. However, I've never forgotten the beautiful life lessons & cinematography. Gracias for bringing this on YT, especially during when most of society has no interest in moral values, self respect, charity, empathy, a simple life, leaning on Padre God & so much more. Peace be with everyone, Feliz Christmas, a healthy, safe end of year & 2024. 🙏 ❤
Thank you for giving me a nice night with the Waltons. I really miss them. Made me cry with happiness. My kids grew up with them and I always looked forward to the next episode. Am 76 now and have most of the DHS. I grew up poor, went to work for the government and got a retirement but will always appreciate everything I have and earned it by working hard. I hope someday to meet the Waltons but may never happen. Appreciating the small things in life and having love of people and Jesus is all we can hope for. Nancy Brown, Valley Springs, CA.
I was hoping this was the one I watched years ago and it is!!! This movie was made AFTER Patricia Neal's terrible stroke. She worked so very hard to recover. She never gave up. Thank you, Pat, for such a good example of determination.
@@jaytotheell I was tough on my boys. Manners, respect, I even made them ask before leaving the table. My boys are grown men now, and I’m so incredibly proud of them. Both are great men. I was tough, but loving. I expected a lot from them, and I gave my all, to them. I never laid a hand on my boys. Never wanted or had to. But, I often wonder if I was too tough on them. They both say that I wasn’t, but that they knew they had boundaries, and rules. Both are coming for Christmas. They are my greatest achievements, truly. Merry Christmas to all 🎄
Married to the great Welsh/Norwegian Roald Dahl the great children's novelist. He didn't treat her that well but wrote 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' Brave woman and fine actress.
My brothers, sister and I grew up with these morals and values. I can't thank my Mother and Father enough for bringing us up to be good human beings, who are not only respectful to each other but other people too. We could NEVER, repay them for what they have done for us, RIP Daddy you were not only my Dad but my best friend. I love you always and forever.
The Walton kids were just perfect for their roles good young actors, sweet kids. I have never seen this before, I am glad that when the series came out, there was a different grampa, dad and mom cast. I always loved watching the Walton's. Jim Bob and Elizabeth were so cute and sweet!
Patricia Neal had had a stroke and did not have the stamina to do a TV series. Edgar Bergan was not interested in doing a TV series. The father was barely in it, who knows why he did not come back? Maybe they wanted a more seasoned actor.
@@melvawages7143 according to Patricia Neal herself, she was never approached about playing the role in the series. That stroke was serious, but not so permanently debilitating as people seem to think it was.
One of the finest Christmas movies EVER! My dad was the age of the youngest girl, and he would tell similar stories of growing up in the Great Depression. CB
Hello how are you doing today, my honest and sincere apologies forgive me for dropping this message here but I will love to be friend with a God fearing, loving, and caring woman which you're hope no offense?
I agree. I’m a 90s kid but just started watching it recently and am always surprised by how some issues are still relevant today. For some reason, I always thought it was a sitcom but it’s rather poignant.
What memories...Back in the 70's when I was a kid..I knew this movie was a masterpiece....I didn't know how to put it in words then, and oddly enough , thru a few tears I really still cant. But a masterpiece it is !Merry Christmas world ...
I grew up in a rural area with 4 siblings. We lived in a big old farmhouse, and I guess we were poor, but we had lots of fun. We always had a big Christmas tree, which my father cut down. We had fields to play in, a stream to splash in, woods to roam through and pets. My father had a job at the local feed store, but he hunted a lot, and my mother was a stay at home mom who cooked and cleaned and sewed. And we had each other. I was in my 20s when the Waltons came on, but it did make me think of my childhood, and to this day, I love the show, and I watch this Christmas Special all year long!
We were young back in 1971, and most all the adults we knew back then were very much alive. None of the parents of the kids I grew up with in my hometown are alive now. They are all gone and strangers live in their homes today. The last one of childhood friends Dads lived to be 97, years old. He passed away in November 2011. Knew him as their Dad then he and I became friends after I was unable to go back to work in 2003. Sometimes life and time takes us down a road we never dreamed we would travel upon.
I made the mistake of watching "The Homecoming," and then the Waltons, on TV before I read the book. I made it a tradition to read the book each year and then watch the movie. unfortunately it's hard to keep which Spencer family member is which Walton family member. It's also odd that it's Clay-boy, not John boy. Although I must agree. It's one of the best.
It almost seems like a pilot episode, so many of the same actors, but the parents, though real actors at the time, couldn’t hold a candle to the two in the series
An American Classic that joins the ranks of "It's a Wonderful Life", "Miracle on 34th Street", "The Bells of St. Mary's, and "Going My Way". Thank you, Mr. Hamner. May you rest in Peace.
Awesome movie. I like to keep things simple and easy just like that. I wish I could live in the country again. I pray you all loved this as much as I did. God bless you.

I remember growing up watching shows like this. As.an only child and my mom a single working parent I'd think how wonderful it would be to have a big family like this especially after my grandparents passed away. When my two boys were young I'd watch them all over again 😊

Well it's now 2021, and coming this late fall, this movie will be 50 years old. And I remember watching it for it's very first showing, on CBS in late 1971. I was 12 years old then. Now I'm 62. You know what they say about how time flies ? It's beyond true ! And the older one gets it flies even faster and there's no going back, not even for 1 minute.
@@wingatemose1182 I agree time is flying bye and it was only two years ago I posted my statement. Merry Christmas Everyone hope this Christmas is better than last.
Funny back in the day when the show was starting it was uncool to say you liked the show. Some loved it as me but as younger teen some of my friends were watching the Mod Squad, but not me..This shows endures. The other one not really...
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. It still makes my heart warm and I usually cry as few times too. Young people today would probably find it too slow-moving but I watch it like I'm visiting an old friend and it wouldn't be Christmas without it.
As a parent myself for the last 16-yrs now, much of my teachings and parenting style have come from Ester and Olivia Walton. This weekly TV show was anything but ordinary. It had the finest ingredients of all things good - morals, values, ethics, love, honesty, family, friendships, commitment, integrity, honor. I grew up loving this wonderful show.
One of my favorite scenes in the Waltons was when Ben was arrested for breaking and entering, and Olivia's rant. "...like any low-down criminal in the county" So genuine, such excellent acting of the angry mom.
I wished it was like that now, people was greatful for what they got,now days it’s how much can you get, people has forgot the real meaning of Christmas...but whoever reads this Merry Christmas
First time watching it for me. Enjoyed it very much. I wish things were still like this., wish we could wind the clock back. As a child in the seventies we’d do our part in the church Christmas program and would love receiving a brown bag of goodies afterward containing - a Christmas mandarin ( wrapped in green tissue paper) a few peanuts in their shell, and some Christmas candy( those hard ribbon candy, or striped red and green ones). Loved it.
Yeah…I grew up in the 70’s too. In London. I remember the same as you. So many miles away, yet I hold my memories the same as you do, close to my heart. I remember gathering tinned food for the people who couldn’t afford a special Christmas. I remember the midnight mass at the cathedral that is hundreds of years old, candles everywhere, and the choir singing like angels. I remember crying because my grandad sang the song “the little boy who Santa clause forgot” and I remember our community. I don’t live in London, or England, any more. I live in Australia and Christmas here is hot, and people eat seafood salad for Christmas lunch. Well, not in my house….I cook the whole turkey dinner with stuffing, crank up the aircon so we are forced to wear Christmas jumpers….. and make it as Christmasey as possible lol. Merry Christmas, Cheryl. 🎄
@@pommiebearsHi, I came back to rewatch the video and saw your comment this Christmas. I moved from Canada to New Zealand where I am now. These hot, summer Christmases never feel like Christmas anymore. It’s hard to change. I find myself watching any snowy Christmas movies I can find and feeling homesick. People love their beaches and barbecues at Christmas here but no matter how hot it is I still cook the traditional turkey and ham Christmas dinner! What a great idea with the air con, I don’t have one but if I did we could wear the cozy Christmas sweaters! It’s the 27th today so hope your Christmas was a good one and Happy New Year. 🎉❤
I’m glad I was born in 1959 and today at 63 life sure is not the same as it was back in the day when people cared and I mean cared . These precious movies are a thing of the past .. young people don’t have time for their own parents , who did it all for them .. just sad times I say .. my ❤> 💔
An old fashioned Christmas 🎄 this movie still makes me cry...I get homesick for my family...my parents gave me the best Christmas' as a child...the smells, the decorations, Andy Williams playing and the love 💞
Oh, you mean the aroma of Christmas, huh? The word smell is likened to a rotten fish or garbage that needs to go out. But something joyful is aromatic or a great scent and so on. It's a peeve of mine, sorry.
gingermystery wow, how in the world did you know lol. you know, this movie, i was a kid when it came out. i had a crush on Mary Ellen. that is funny when i look back now.
Sorry I didn't explain better lol...this movie brings back so many memories of when I was a kid...Christmas is so commercial now...I'm baking this year- homemade gifts from the heart
What a classic. I’ve watched this several times and each time my heart is touched with the love of family. I’m 70 years old now and the Walton’s is still one of my favorite shows.
I remember when I was a little girl, it would come on tv during christmas break.. mom would pop popcorn, serve it up in a giant blue speckled roasting pan, my sister and I snuggled down on the floor to watch this. I love seeing how times where simple and people were grateful for simple things. For me its a sentimental thing and something to admire in the character of people of that era.. In a world today full of people who live with entitlement attitude I doubt todays people would have such strong character if depression would hit again.
+Jim Devers There is a scene in the movie [one of my favorite scenes] where John Boy goes to a black church to seek assistance from it's pastor , who is his friend and whose son had been invited to come visit by Mrs. Walton. John boy sits there patiently enjoying the congregation's Christmas Eve service. At the end of the service Pastor Hawthorne Dooley happily assists his friend in need , giving up some of the time he could be spending with his family on Christmas Eve. The Baldwin sisters also know and trust Pastor Dooley, whom they have hired to assist them in some of their daily activities. He probably helps them out of the goodness of his heart just as much as for the money they pay him. Please do a little research and you will find that there have been many world changing discoveries and inventions that can be attributed to blacks. Perhaps if you would look a little more to the positive you may someday be able to get rid of that chip on your shoulder. I don't think there were that many blacks or whites shinning shoes in those days since there were so many who could not afford shoes.
I'm a grown adult and still watch re-runs when they come on inspiration channel, I can't remember the , The Little House On The Prairie, read the entire series when I was a girl, entertained me for a long time
I love this movie so much. Patricia Neal was such a great actress! Bringing the character of Olivia Walton to life. Showing her as a strong and loving mother,
I believe if you saw the show before the movie, you prefer Learned. If you saw the movie first, as I did, you prefer Patricia Neal, Oscar winner.@@stephanieshefer5545
To get love you need to give love..... Endless Blessings, Peg
Hope you find it one day 🤗

Thank you for sharing your heart. I'm surrounded by people yet still feel alone. I'm just existing and I'm tired of this sadness.
Sorry for your loss. ❤
Im going to be 60 in February and I always wish the same thing would happen. And when I lost my Mom to COVID-19 life has really changed. I always wish I would have children cause I said I would never treat them the way I was but that never happened cause I needed a compliment hysterectomy at 36. I used to watch this show almost religiously back in the early seventies. It was on this show that I first saw Sissy Spacek and I've been a fan of her's ever since!😊
No not me , my pay brings tears to my eyes.
40 years later and I still love watching the Walton's.. A mother’s love is the greatest thing on earth! ️.

There is a reason the Mexicans say that a home isn't build on the ground, but on a woman.
I used too adore my father talking about his youthful "huckle berry fin " days ,
...wandering and playing in their farm with no shoes on. Lol.
He too came from large family , 7 brothers and sisters.
You're both right ....they were brilliant times back then.
Quieter, less stressful, more fun, loving and adventurous.
I too feel blessed we lived in those times before the internet
.....took over our lives and changed everything.
I call our childhood era , the " golden raw days "
Wish we could all go back and live that life again.
At least we can immerse ourselves into the waltons family ....
...and join them in everything they do , feeling like we belong there forever...
.....I often cry at how beautiful and powerful all their stories are .
I would be lost without them .

freedom moon....you are an inspiration to all of us!

The world needs a lot more Waltons...We'd all be a lot happier and healthier for it.
...and kids to be kids again, like we were!

Great comments. Thank you for sharing.
Goodnight@lenargil

@Stephen Smith glad to know men like you still exist.

Try to make it that way for yourself, don't accept less. Peace and Good Luck!
Be the change.🙏🏽❤ Wishing you and yours a very Happy Christmas and New Year.😊
I watched this movie every year it was shown . A very Merry Christmas to one and all.
@@frenchie2102 The same is wished for you and good things in the New Year too!
Fond memories of this show, sometimes I wish times were that simple again. Do your chores and look forward to listening to the radio with the family
Absolutely
Peace be with everyone, Feliz Christmas & "2024" 🙏
i'm glad we have modern medicine and comforts to work for
This show is a wonderful time , of what life used to be, speaking of Jesus in the home, simpler times. Hits the heart ❤️ with warmth, make you feel cozy all over!
YES ❤ So TRUE ...
funny how a couple world wars and a crushing Depression will humble the populace! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤦
Nailed it!
THE HOMECOMING PILOT FOR THE WALTONS - This is truly a legacy of love, friendships, family, the mountains and good times even in the depression. A gift to all of us viewers who love great movies and shows. Thank you
Actually this movie wasn’t the pilot for the show. The plans for the show came AFTER the success of this made for TV movie.
@@JoanBrown-j3eim sure thats what she meant. It kicked off the idea for the show.
Technology and violence are mostly to blame .
Me too! I’ll be 63 next month and still remember watching this show when I was a teenager. Love this ❤❤
Yes, everything has changed. Especially the meaning of Christmas. 😢
This holds such a special place in my heart. The first time this aired. my entire family sat and watched it. It became a Christmas tradition for us.
That's so awesome 👍😎

❤
@sandrafrasure6278 How come John Boy ran out of gas when his mother gave him a dollar to pay for it ?
I grew up watching the Waltons and little house on the prairie, Life seemed so much simpler then, but I imagine it was a lot harder than it looked. I’m 62 now and find myself looking back rather than looking forward. Oh to be sat in my childhood home watching this with my parents , special times
I love this movie. Makes me cry too. In the mess were are living through, its great to watch this and remember how things were. Even in hard times.
I watched this movie today for the first time, I’m 69 yrs old, it was so great, Patricia Neal so touching. John boy and all the kids were wonderful, one of my all time movies now!!!
this movie makes me actually yearn for the simple times and days gone bye, Merry Christmas!
Ditto ! My mother was born and raised on a farm , on a mountain, 9 kids... She thought this movie was very accurate ! God bless & Merry Christmas !
Merry Christmas Skyla
Don't we all,would be a better world.
watch the waltons every week
simple times through tv.

I love this so much. I've watched it many times. It never gets old. ❤ ❤ I love the Waltons.

imagine u just get a scarf for Christmas and u cherished it. beautiful. much simpler times.
Wish I got a scarf like that.
Soon you “won’t own anything and be “happy” about it!” GR!
I got just a pair of knitted socks this Christmas and its the best present 🎁 I've got in a long time.... I already have everything else.
What memories you will make!
it’s because they were poor lol
I'm 71 and enjoy watching these family value shows. So much has disappeared spiritually and morally. Let's pray for people's hearts to turn back to the LORD!!

Merry late or early Christmas to you from Michigan!
Agree
It is very good. I watch it most years. Also, good is "The Gathering" with Ed Asner and Maureen Stapleton. "A Christmas Star" with Asner is also good.

Love it!!
same for my Daddy.
Hello Darlene, How are you doing?

One of the best Christmas movies ever made,
I grew up in a rural area with 4 siblings.
I used to watch this every Christmas in the early 70s. Wonderful times!
This is the original Waltons, before Michael Learned was cast as the mother. I love the story about Ashley Longworth !
This movie started the entire Waltons series. So glad to have seen it. Waltons is one of the Best Shows of all time.
I agree with you 💯 on this show loved it when I was little and still love watching the old classic movies! ❤
Absolutely! Glad I bought the series on DVD because television today is no more than pure garbage.
Honestly, I am glad they changed the characters as they did for the TV show.
I've grew up not just watching the Waltons but for Christmas every year I've always watched the homecoming

You know what they say about how time flies ? It's beyond true ! And the older one gets it flies even faster and there's no going back, not even for 1 minute.

I agree time is flying bye and it was only two years ago I posted my statement.
Merry Christmas Everyone hope this Christmas is better than last.
The Walton's is one of the greatest family shows ever made. i just love it and the cast.
@Sideshow Bob l am 60 and i remember
Funny back in the day when the show was starting it was uncool to say you liked the show. Some loved it as me but as younger teen some of my friends were watching the Mod Squad, but not me..This shows endures. The other one not really...
Bar none!

I am nearly 60 and I remember the show. I loved it and still do
I am 62 years of age and been watching the Walton’s since I was seven years old❤❤❤❤
This is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. It still makes my heart warm and I usually cry as few times too. Young people today would probably find it too slow-moving but I watch it like I'm visiting an old friend and it wouldn't be Christmas without it.
Hello Kathy, how are you doing?
What a beautiful Christmas movie 🥰
Simple, honest people who loved each other and found joy in the small things.Great story.
Hello Susan, how are you doing?
Still my favorite movie to watch on Christmas day. May God bless you.
Hello Ellen, How are you doing?
The Walton’s was such a wonderful series! ♥️ Heartwarming!
+Jo Lay -J couldn't have said it any better except , me too!
amen
That's why I loved it so much ,!!!
In this day and age, best wishes and good fortune to you.
Merry Christmas, Aretha...
Your xmas smelled?
Ya the scent of Christmas 🎄 like a pine tree...turkey 🍗 and all that...duh?!!!

Couldn't be more well put. Gotta love diving into those old movies and shows. Born in 91 but I can totally reap the settling atmosphere.
I will take slow and boring any day compared to all the insanity of the present times.
Loved Ellen Corby. You could just feel the angst of the mother when she thought her husband would never make it home.
Showing her as a strong and loving mother,
I thought she talked and acted way too old for the part of the mother!
Prefer Michal Learned as Olivia.
I believe if you saw the show before the movie, you prefer Learned. If you saw the movie first, as I did, you prefer Patricia Neal, Oscar winner.@@stephanieshefer5545
@@stephanieshefer5545ME too.
I don't like this nasty woman 😮
Michael Learned was much better imo.
