  • Transistor as an Amplifier:
    The major application of a transistor is as a current amplifier.
    A transistor can be used to amplify ('magnify') current changes because a small change in base current produces a large change in collector current.

    I have always struggled to understand this concept on my own, and I'm so glad I found this video! Its amazing how you could explain it so well in such a short period of time thank you so much!

    I have a confusion, this is killing me. If there is an AC current, direction of current changes. Then why forward bias is not converted into reverse bais?

    Hi i made a common emmiter amplifier for 200mhz signal with 2× gain
    I can amplify a 50 mv p-p to 100mv p-p but I can't do it for 2v to 4v p-p
    Why what values should be change???

  • @goodw97

    During this whole amplification process, does the transistor should have enough voltage across the base to the emitter to keep it biased?

    With all due respect, it is *incorrect* to say that "transistor is not voltage amplifier". In fact, transistor, in particular the Bipolar Junction Transistor(BJT), which is taught at SPM level, is indeed used as both current and voltage amplifier. At SPM level, it just covered the current applification process and its formula, which is the IC = (beta)*IB. The statement just said "The *main* application of a transistor is current application". Noticed the word "main". It does not say "The only application...".

    So whats the function of the potential divider there ?

    • @myhometuition
      @myhometuition  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Potential divider is used to control the ratio of the voltage across the collector and the base. For example, if the Rc = 50kΩ and Rb = 5kΩ, hence Rc:Rb = 10: 1. If the voltage across the two resistance is 11V, then Vc will be 10V and Vb will be 1V.
      Note:
      Rc = resistance across the collector circuit
      Rb = resistance across the base circuit
      Vc = voltage across the collector circuit
      Vb = voltage across the base circuit

    What is the function of the battery and voltage divider? I’m confused how the transistor increases the amps? Where does it provide the extra amps? Please explain more the relationships between the battery, voltage divider and the microphone.

    • @myhometuition
      @myhometuition  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The battery is the source of electrical energy. The electrical energy generate electromotive force. The electromotive create potential difference and hence drive the motion of the electrons in the circuit, and hence produce current. The potential divider control how much potential difference should be given to the output (the collector circuit) and the base circuit, and hence control the amplification factor.
      For example, if the Rc = 50kΩ and Rb = 5kΩ, hence Rc:Rb = 10: 1. If the voltage across the two resistance is 11V, then Vc will be 10V and Vb will be 1V.

      Transistor is having phase reversal property i.e 180 degree so the output is decreases for + half and increases for - ve half
