I'm from Europe so I haven't experienced this stuff but to me it sounds really excluding because I can't imagine that the selection process is based on anything else but looks tbh
I'm not sure it'd be based just on looks because as she said, they get to talk a lot so I guess girls are chosen if their personalities matches the sorority. (But I have to say that it's confusing, every girl she filmed in this video was super pretty so idk… ahah) Other than that, I agree and I was thinking about it during the video. I also live in Europe (in France actually) and that's something that would never happen here so that's a bit weird to imagine. Eventhough I like that they all donate to charity, I didn't know they're doing that
It is. But as some people are saying, it has a lot to do with conversations as well. If you're shallow enough, you can be appealing to...certain sororities (lol). As far as philanthropy goes, I think that her sorority has a particularly banal philanthropy-not to say that in order for it to be meaningful it has to be unique-but I can think of a dozen causes off the top of my head that need more help and money than St. Jude's.
Because sororities exclude people who don't "fit." That's all fine until they start championing diversity and meeting "lots of different people" as a reason to join.
Most women of color choose to join one of the divine 9 sororities, which are historically black sororities. There is also some poc women who feel like they wouldn’t get into a sorority because of their race, which while that might have been true in the past, is absolutely false in 2019.
I’m sorry girl like I respect you and all that you do but you lost me at “they spit on me and laughed at me but you just can’t take it personally..” I’m... I’m baffled...
Sororities are basically buying friends it’s dangerous I heard a story where they made a girl carry bricks in her backpack and she broke her spine 🤦🏾♀️
honestly I've heard so many people talking about sorority and rushing and all that stuff and I still have no clue at all what it means, what the purpose of it all is, how it works etc... I'm from Europe and we don't do anything of that kind ... could someone please explain in a VERY simple way what this is/how it works etc because for me this sounds pretty much like joining a cult and the girls are trying to figure out which cult to join?:D (not trying to sound rude)
Basically. Although some tout the benefits of Greek life - it's a great way to meet friends, get involved in campus activities, participate in service projects and volunteering, network with alumni from the sorority you're in, and go to dope parties
and why can't you just chose your sorority straight away? like why do you have to go through all these different rounds, dressing accordingly and ''waiting'' for them to convince you? and also why is this just a girls thing like why aren't the boys allowed to take part in this? this is just so new to me haha I really can't get my head around
Recruitment was (from my experience) SO tiring and draining 😂 but SOOOO worth it! I’m a fall ‘17 and now I’m going on spring break this year with a couple girls in my house & im so close with all the girls.. 10/10 recommend going through recruitment even if you don’t think it’s for you
I wanted to join Greek life because I’m very introverted and thought it would make it easier to make friends and gain a little social group but when you filmed all the girls in your sorority, it made me really nervous and kind of not want to do it because I’m not skinny and pretty like all of them 😂😂 And I feel like I would just be an odd one out 😂
Bella Weirdo no no no!!! Most sororities aren't superficial, and trust me, you don't have to stick thin to fit in! I definitwly am not super skinny, but my sisters love me regardless. I'm introverted too, and I think you should give recruitment a shot. If it feels weird, then you can always drop.
Bella Weirdo - omg girl, I felt the same way! I’m going to Mizzou currently and I was very nervous to rush, and being honest, a lot of the sororities were so superficial and about looks and parties, etc. but as soon as I walked into mine for the first time, it was perfect! They loved me for me and I didn’t have to pretend, I was totally comfortable. I would give it a try and if you aren’t comfortable/don’t enjoy the experience, you can always drop. But it’s worth a try!
Addy Alivia hi! So I’ve started college since I’ve made this comment and I just wanna let you know that I did not end up joining a sorority but I have met and made friends with SO MANY girls who are in a bunch of different sororities and some are so incredibly amazing and sweet and some are little introverted and mean. But it’s okay! They definitely are not like they seem in movies and tv. I’m glad I didn’t join a sorority because I know now that it just isn’t for me but I’m so grateful for the girls I met who are involved in them! Never let stereotypes or rumors keep you from making all of the friends you can!! My freshmen year of college was so amazing and I met so many great people and I came out of my shell a lot.
i joined a sorority at wpi! and its crazy how different it is for every school but really interesting to hear about yours.. ITS THE BEST THOUGH. RECOMMEND EVERYONE TO GO THROUGH RECRUITMENT!
I started watching your move in videos before I started college and just recently found you again and subscribed. But you know what's wild that I only just realized - we're sisters! Dlam
I'm from CT and just stumbled on your videos... I saw your last name online and a realtor with your same last name sold my grandparents house for us last year. I swear she has to be your mother because she has the same eyes as you-- small world! Glad I found your channel xo!
Mina Yuan As much as sorority girls will say it's about philanthropy and getting involved it's more about the social aspect. The parties, the friends, the experience.
I think it’s about being in a brotherhood/sisterhood. Building relationships. Getting involved with tons of activities, volunteering. Also partying from what I heard. Many politicians in American have been a member of fraternity / sorority
Mina Yuan I did it because I wanted to expand my network beyond people in my major and activities. Plus there are scholarships, and yes social events. For me as an alumna, I still go to events with women 50 years older than me who are in the same sorority.
I’m in Tri Delta as well (at ISU)! ☺️ I joined for the exact same reasons as you - I had great and genuine conversations and I was drawn by the unconditional support the chapter had towards St Jude! Love to hear other people’s reasons for joining Tri Delta. So cool to see a member have such a big platform to spread awareness! Hope bid day went well ☺️
This is super helpful and thank you. I'm the first person in my family that is going to be dorming at a four-year University or even attending i think and I never thought I would be interested in sororities but I am. I just think it's really ironic because Tri Delta is the one I'm most interested in by just reading about them on my University website.
As someone who is also involved in greek life, I would also recommend people look at cultural sororities/fraternities! They tend to offer a different vibe and are smaller than other groups. Most schools tend to have different councils and I would recommend looking through all the different councils to see which one fits best for you and your interests!
i love your videos! i don't care if you film in your dorm room even if its not the prettiest. i doubt anyone else cares either. plus everyone's dorm is not so cute. pls keep making more college videos! love uuu
Hey, i'm french so i really don't know much about greek life, so i've got a few more questions : - is greek life an obligation ? Like do you have to join a sorority ? - do you still have friends outside of your sorority ?
You're so adorable and gorgeous and I just got accepted into Syracuse so watching all of your day in the life/college videos is helping me soooo much with the process. Thank you!!!!
TBH for me (a clueless Londoner) it sounds a little bit like a reality TV show? I still don't understand what houses are or rush is it's still quite confusing ahhh Also- why is it inappropriate to film at rush? What's wrong with it?
Hi! One thing I've always wondered about sororities is how recruitment week lines up with your school schedule. I've always been someone who tries not to skip classes, and I'm worried that I would have to during rush. At my university, rush is a full week long, meaning that I would definitely have to skip class at some point or another. When does rush week happen (1st week of school, beginning of semester, etc?) Is there someone I would be able to talk to to be excused on certain days or times?
Were you given like a mini crash course on each sorority? Like where they tell you what their philanthropy was and values? Or do u need to do your own research?
I will be a sophomore this upcoming semester.... i didnt rush bc i didnt think it was for me but i regretted it... This video helped me out a lot.. im really nervous to rush bc i will be a sophomore and dont know if that is a negative thing.
Tri Delta is my first choice for rushing too!! i was too busy to commit this year, but I'm really hoping to rush for tri delta!! (I'm from Toronto, Canada btw!!)
There is a rush registration application you can obtain from the university (you could look up the panhellenic office or ask at the student involvement office to let you know who to register. ) Once registered the "dropping" process -which is actually your ranking them rather than dropping them - is formally part of the schedule of rush. i think it is done electronically at the end of each round of recruitment. the sororities rank each girl going through rush and by comparing how you rank them with how they rank you determines which ones you get invited back to and ultimately receive a bid from.

I have to remind everyone that EVERY chapter is different. I am in the same national sorority by in no way did they spit at us or ever degrade or insult any of us. Every school and sorority is different.
I’m rushing at Boston U this upcoming weekend and honestly I’m so lost on what to wear for business casual haha and for the first casual day idk if anyone knows but is it acceptable to wear fashionable/nice looking ripped jeans?
L. B. Same. I didn't go to university to make new friends, I already have friends. It would be so exhausting to be in constant crowd all the time with bunch on basic white girls. No hate, just really not my thing. I like quiet and to be on my own with a few close friends that's it 🤓
I really wanted to go Greek but I didn’t get any houses back that I thought I would be a good fit at ): made a video about it, but the process is so different for everyone
I'm from Europe so I haven't experienced this stuff but to me it sounds really excluding because I can't imagine that the selection process is based on anything else but looks tbh
ik i feel bad for the girls that dont get in anywhere??
me too, that process must be so nervewracking
I'm not sure it'd be based just on looks because as she said, they get to talk a lot so I guess girls are chosen if their personalities matches the sorority. (But I have to say that it's confusing, every girl she filmed in this video was super pretty so idk… ahah)

I do agree it was a bit concerning that every girl in her vid from tri delta was super pretty. Makes you wonder...
Jude's.
Why did all the girls at the house look the same!
Because sororities exclude people who don't "fit." That's all fine until they start championing diversity and meeting "lots of different people" as a reason to join.
MissZoey007 hahaha what does race have to do with that comment? Go educate yourself. Just a dictionary will do I expect!
MissZoey007 they were mostly blond and tanned girls (in the middle of winter) they are all clones with no individuality
MissZoey007 but all of them were white...periodt
Most women of color choose to join one of the divine 9 sororities, which are historically black sororities. There is also some poc women who feel like they wouldn’t get into a sorority because of their race, which while that might have been true in the past, is absolutely false in 2019.

Cheyenne right? That’s so disgusting
Sororities are basically buying friends it’s dangerous I heard a story where they made a girl carry bricks in her backpack and she broke her spine 🤦🏾♀️
Not purposely! When they were talking they accidentally spit and handled it poorly by laughing because they felt awkward instead of apologizing...
@@makaylak6887 not at all schools; and that's not what the true purpose of sororities is
yeah they do that for hell week but now a days they do less harsh things
honestly I've heard so many people talking about sorority and rushing and all that stuff and I still have no clue at all what it means, what the purpose of it all is, how it works etc... I'm from Europe and we don't do anything of that kind ... could someone please explain in a VERY simple way what this is/how it works etc because for me this sounds pretty much like joining a cult and the girls are trying to figure out which cult to join?:D (not trying to sound rude)

it works kinda like a club. you have to fit in and stuff to make the cut. boys have it too they are called Fraternities
I’m from Europe too and so confused!! Why is it called ‘Greek Life’?? What’s Greek about it? Xx
Hahahah me too, Im so confused!
lmao I WISH somebody would spit on me .. they got the wrong one 💀
Lmao best comment
Recruitment was (from my experience) SO tiring and draining 😂 but SOOOO worth it! I’m a fall ‘17 and now I’m going on spring break this year with a couple girls in my house & im so close with all the girls.. 10/10 recommend going through recruitment even if you don’t think it’s for you
+Mackenzie !!!!!! this!
cool to know that y’all do it in two weekends. most schools in the south do it the full week before school starts
I’m a senior in high school and this video got me so excited to rush next year!! Love you Margot

Glad I found your channel xo!
sephoralove28 yeah her mom is a realtor! small world lol
where is your black sweatshirt from? the one you’re wearing in the first clip
Where is the gold earrings from? soo pretty
why do people want/need to be in a sorority or fraternity, esp in the states? And feel good about what exactly?
Mina Yuan As much as sorority girls will say it's about philanthropy and getting involved it's more about the social aspect. The parties, the friends, the experience.

greek life is totally optional and you can definitely have friends outside your sorority/fraternity :)
I'm from Germany sooo I won't go to college...but that didn't stop me from watching your new video 💪💖
WOW dream coat is the most amazing thing i can’t tell u
i just started watching your channel recently and hadn’t seen a video on this even though i was super curious!!! so glad you made this :)
Omg Margot you are an amazing vlogger! This makes me want to be in a sorority so bad ❤️
You're so adorable and gorgeous and I just got accepted into Syracuse so watching all of your day in the life/college videos is helping me soooo much with the process. Thank you!!!!
i'm hoping to go to syracuse starting 2019!
I’m so early this never happens! Love you Margot 💖
These videos keep convincing me to join a sorority, but is it worth it???? Does it look good for grad school
I make videos too! Pop a peek?
TBH for me (a clueless Londoner) it sounds a little bit like a reality TV show? I still don't understand what houses are or rush is it's still quite confusing ahhh
Also- why is it inappropriate to film at rush? What's wrong with it?
You are so prettyyy. I love your channel so muchh
Is it true they ask who u don’t want in a sorority??
Syracuse!! I’m planning on going there!!
i love your personality so much!!

+Avery Tyson each sorority will tell you about their house as you go! each round they will talk about different subjects :)
I’m only junior in high school but i know when the time comes i want to be a tri delt at UF. Hope everything is going well and you’re still loving it!
What foundation or bb cream did you use while getting ready and doing your makeup? it looks so natural and good
Emerson Wingate glossier! It’s in a lot of her other vids
i can`t help myself but, sororities scare me. I keep imagine them like that one from SCREAM QUEENS.
I love scream queens
Loved this Margot! So interesting for us Aussie gals haha xx
Really helpful considering I'm planning on rushing in college next year and I know nothing about it... thanks love.
I will be a sophomore this upcoming semester.... i didnt rush bc i didnt think it was for me but i regretted it... This video helped me out a lot.. im really nervous to rush bc i will be a sophomore and dont know if that is a negative thing.
What foundation or face cream is that you use at the beginning of your makeup?
Loved this and all the sorority talk!
Subscribed :))
this video was so helpful!!
Tri Delta is my first choice for rushing too!! i was too busy to commit this year, but I'm really hoping to rush for tri delta!! (I'm from Toronto, Canada btw!!)
Love seeing a sister talking about recruitment, dlam bb
Can you do an updated make up routine pleasee!!!
thank you!! this’ll help so much! love u bb💕💕💕
Will the houses contact you qnd tell you what to wear each day?
what was that product u put in ur hair that made it rlly soft & smooth? :)
For the first round when you have to go to every house, how do you sign up for that? And how do the houses know you dropped them?
There is a rush registration application you can obtain from the university (you could look up the panhellenic office or ask at the student involvement office to let you know who to register. ) Once registered the "dropping" process -which is actually your ranking them rather than dropping them - is formally part of the schedule of rush. i think it is done electronically at the end of each round of recruitment. the sororities rank each girl going through rush and by comparing how you rank them with how they rank you determines which ones you get invited back to and ultimately receive a bid from.
Looks so amazing 😭😫💓
I honestly don’t know whether I want to rush at UNC or not. The whole process seems really grueling and insulting. I’m also extremely introverted and everyone is just telling me “just rush and you can drop out if it’s not for you.” I’m having such a hard time making this decision because obviously I want to attend parties and be a part of something, but I also don’t want to go through the recruitment process.
Nicole this is what I’m struggling with as well
I was incredibly introverted when I started college and was never going to rush, but i got to know a lot of very down to earth girls who were members of sororities. Although people get stressed out over the selection process, I had never heard of girls being mistreated (spit on) until this video. You can get to know girls going through rush even if you don't end up joining one of the sororities. I would say, make sure you have confidence in yourself, so the potential of being dropped by a sorority is not devastating. I know, even though I had no desire to join one, I think rush would have been interesting but would have been hurt to be dropped. Use it as a chance to get to know some people and to decide whether the "greek" life is for you. Maybe waiting until your second year on campus would be a good idea.
1:06 ahahha I laughed so hard! I love scaring people too
you should vlog big little week!
I went to try delta's pancake philanthropy in Toronto!
what foundation are you using in this video?
the only thing i'm confused about is if you were in a sorority your freshman year, do you have to rush again as a sophomore?
Maegan Grace nope! But you are on the other side of recruitment so you are the girls that the potential new members are talking to!
i love that you at 5’9” like me!!
How can Greek life be amazing when you’re getting spit on your face and laughed at?
Uh what
it's amazing when you find the right sorority for you? She obviously didnt go with the sorority that spit in her face lol???
Katelin Salley you don’t know that
I love all your videos so much we need more vlogs too!! at least I know I want more vlogs like these.
i miss syracuse sooo muchhhh
I just wanna know if it's like what you see in movies at Syracuse or colleges with sororities in general
What’s informal recruitment and formal recruitment
if you are a senior in high school, do you participate in rushing the same way or how does that work?
i mean if you are a senior in high school and soon to be in college. because the recruitment is in the spring here but you would be finishing your senior year of high school
Diana there is rushing during fall semester too. u can do it whenever in college but most people rush the first semester of college
whats the difference between house and sorority
this is so much fun to watch! i'am living in the netherlands and college (and high school) is nothing like it is in America :(
Love your videos!!!! 💗
I have to remind everyone that EVERY chapter is different. I am in the same national sorority by in no way did they spit at us or ever degrade or insult any of us. Every school and sorority is different.
Your hair 😍😍😍
How do you know whose going to be your roommate
is that Ernie Davis dining hall? I went to SU for field hockey camp. I live only like 25 minutes away
where's your jewelry from????!
where is her sunglasses from?
I love your videos!!
Does anyone think she sounds like Miley Cyrus
That girl was ACTUALLY SCARED like I could tell 😂
I’m rushing at Boston U this upcoming weekend and honestly I’m so lost on what to wear for business casual haha and for the first casual day idk if anyone knows but is it acceptable to wear fashionable/nice looking ripped jeans?
What is your career
This all sounds like such a pain....I'm glad I am from Europe. Already have my hands full with studying why would I wanna join a cult like club.
L. B. Same. I didn't go to university to make new friends, I already have friends. It would be so exhausting to be in constant crowd all the time with bunch on basic white girls. No hate, just really not my thing. I like quiet and to be on my own with a few close friends that's it 🤓
Is it expensive?
I really wanted to go Greek but I didn’t get any houses back that I thought I would be a good fit at ): made a video about it, but the process is so different for everyone
do you not live in the sorority house? isn't that what u usually do? sorry, I just don't get the whole thing yet haha
Isn’t being in a sorority extremely expensive
Where is your coat from?
pleeaaaase do more weekly vlogs!!
You make it sound so fun!
What if your school doesn’t have Greek life housing?
