@@shaggadelik Of course, you're totally right, he's fantastic as well! I've been following Sonny since the NPG era, and as a bass player myself, I've always been in love with his way of approaching the instrument. Prince himself said in many interviews Sonny was his musical hero :)
I loved what Steve Strand did for the band but Jay Webb has added a ton versatility to this band's shows as a great lead player and soloist (and the only trumpet player Cory trusts to bring a pedal board on tour)
I am fighting with my 2nd round of Bell's Palsy this year. Haven't been able to play my trumpet since February more less gig. It's hard to even listen to music without severe depression. That being said Jay's flugel solo touched me deeply. Tone, style, phrasing, everything about it was perfect.
@@jaywebb6223 appreciate the words of encouragement. I was just getting to the point where I was making progress. Then two weeks ago it happened again to the other side of my face. Just glad it didn't happen when I was on the road. Luckily a guy who subbed for me in the past took all my work. Otherwise I would have been calling subs every week for the past 9 months. Been playing with my main gig for 25 years. They are holding my spot for when I am ready to return. So it could have been a lot worse.
I'm so sorry to hear about your struggles. I know it might not mean much coming from a stranger on the internet, but I am sending peace, love, and comfort your way. I hope you can play again soon.
Please have Sonny T. mic'ed all the time and allow him to just free scat when ever it hits him to do so. I love this man and his improvisation ability. Also he is hilarious to boot. Also that horn solo was like having a warm cup of coco by a crackling fire while sitting on a couch of melting butter.
7:25 Sonny T saying "damn" at Webbs trumpet intro was so0o wholesome - all of your dynamics are perfect i really hope yall get to that Casiopea/ Mario Kart phase next.
36°F, wet and cold. Best show I've ever seen, hands down. Only reason you can't hear us clapping us cuz we all had gloves on. 🤣 Can't wait to hear more from Stubb's, Cory.
I don't know how many times I've listened to a version of a Cory and the Wongnotes song and thought to myself "I wish this solo never ended. I want to live in it." And it happens multiple times in one song!
Cory choosing not to take a solo in this song is both criminal and a perfect illustration of how he's not just a guitar player, he's a band leader as well. Also Petar on drums. Dear god what a master.
An absolutely killer night of music, highlighted by the Flugelhorn solo. Seeing this show, the final show of their tour with Sierra and Robbie, and then immediately walking over 2 blocks to Empire for Tauk's last gig of THEIR tour with Kanika Moore, was a night I will never forget.
I hope this song is on your next album! I first heard it on your Wong On Ice video and I've been hooked on it since. That chord progression is just beautiful. Kinda reminds me of Cosmic Sans (which is one of my favorites as well)
There are so many great things to say about this track. I love how your music is becoming more progressive (at least in my books). Keep up the great work. Love from Australia
This band is special. Cory does such a good job of showcasing the talent of his band mates. It’s really educated me on music in general and changed how I view all bands, even life long favorites. I’ve been an Iron Maiden fan for 25 years, but it wasn’t until Cory came along that I ever became curious about who was drumming on the Number of the Beast album or what each guitarist brings to the table. It turns out that there’s a dude named Adrian Smith playing all those guitar solos I love. Who knew?
There's also Dave Murray, they play the dual solos back to back. Adrian and Dave have different styles and tones, you'll hear it if you listen enough. And their drummer is Nicko McBrain. A simple Google search will tell you all of this.
I know you're saying that you never cared who played the solos you like, but you only mention 1/2 of the founding guitarists. I promise you some of those are Dave Murray.
His playing perfectly compliments everyone in the band, which is an art. As for solos, two great ones off the top of my head - Side Step on Live from Minneapolis and Starting Line on Syncopate & Motivate Live.
I watch a lot of videos before I heard him play a solo. He's quite accomplished. Quite a bit of pentatonic and a lot of double note stuff that probably sounds easier than it is.
Just got tickets, can't wait to see this show! Admired Victor Wooten since I learned about bass as a kid. Cory Wong and the group are doing amazing things.
I can't wait to see more videos from this gig. It was such an uplifting couple of nights between Dallas and Austin. My son and I had some great moments together during this run.
To see this kind of passion and excellence shared between all of you is so special!! And the fact y’all recorded it live .. And are sharing it with us 🥹 Cory Wong is one of the best artists / content creators of our generation!! 🐐 Witnessing history in the making 🔥🙏🏼
Fantastic! I’ve done late season outdoor gigs when the temperature was below 50°, and that was hard enough for the horn players. These guys are incredible!
Petar doesn't get enough love. What a drummer!
Yup found myself listening to him for most of this. Human atomic clock!
Petar is a legend, the silly and serious drumming is sick
I agree! One of the funnest (ha! A new word) drummers to watch and listen to. Great rhythm and interesting fills and hooks!
@@johnkim791 not a new word, at all. But hey, go off, love it
The genius of Sonny T. No need to say more.
Don't skip on the genius of Petar J., in how he so perfectly supports each and every move of the master Sonny T.! The perfect drummer.
@@shaggadelik Of course, you're totally right, he's fantastic as well! I've been following Sonny since the NPG era, and as a bass player myself, I've always been in love with his way of approaching the instrument. Prince himself said in many interviews Sonny was his musical hero :)
I mean, he said more, at the post-show interview. It's cool to hear more, isn't that the whole point of having Sonny in the band?
That tone on Jay's solo...! Crikey, that's beautiful!
Agreed - it’s sublime! Makes me wish I’d kept up my flugelhorn lessons!
Dat flugelhorn with the DEEEP mouthpiece. Yessir!
It's even more impressive that it was like 36° and the last show of the tour for them. Nobody saw the flugel coming lol

That would be absolutely incredible. Mint jams is up there as one of my favorite live albums of all time.
Sonny T had me in awe. This was an incredible show to be at!
That silky smooth flugel solo 😮
Right!! I was thinking the same thing! Heard that on the album that came out the other day, and glad there’s a video… incredible!!
"Salt Pea-nuts, salt pea-nuts!" Cheers, Sonny. I learn something every time I hear you play.
I'm addicted to this trumpet man Jay Webb solo; I can't stop coming back to this one!
Cory you need to sell those tracksuits as merch they look so comfortable. And imagine if everyone in the audience dressed the same as the band!

Jay Webb's got chops.
Flugelhorn really is quite sultry. An excellent bop from everyone 🔥
It's a privilege watching Sonny perform.
this version of brooklyn bop HAVE to be on a record!! DEFINATELY
I don't know how to spell definitily as well don't worry
@@bellchattin Just think of it as "definite" with an -ly at the end. And I also agree that this take of "Brooklyn Bop" is killer!
The Flug is one of the most underrated instruments. Smooth like butter especially when played as well as it is here.
Jay Webb is amazing, this band is certainly the coolest of them all
I don't know how many times I've listened to a version of a Cory and the Wongnotes song and thought to myself "I wish this solo never ended. I want to live in it." And it happens multiple times in one song!
Such a great, cold night! Sonny, his words, had the spirit of God in that solo!
I think the quote was that "God gave me a lot there, and I had to let it out."
Cory you gotta have more of Sonny’s vocals on recordings by dude
Tunes like this make me so glad to have a big screen and a slammin' system. Oh, and no close neighbors. This song deserves it!
SONNY T !!!
Shit yeah! SONNNNYYY!
Damn I’ve heard a lot of Brooklyn bops but that was INSANE. WELL DONE, love you guys
Sick. Petar's cymbal that sounds like a hand clap is tight. Looking forward to seeing you all at the Ryman!!
That thing sounds more like a hand clap than an actual hand clap. Thing is sick.
Dude it sounds so sick live, I want one so bad and I don't even drum anymore 😂
@@Nannada1212 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's called a clap stack, drummers arr using it more and more, and I totally see why :)
just huge huge love for cory and the band for keeping JOY on stage. if you aren't smiling from ear to ear watching these guys, you're dead.
YES GO OFF SONNY YOU MADMAN
Sonny T the Bass-playin' Taxman in Texas, after that solo I want to pay more taxes! Holy moly!

I would absolutely love to see these musicians perform!!!! Soooo much energy and great vibes from the music they make!!!!! High class!
I just grabbed tickets to see them in Atlanta next February, I'm so excited.
So funky and low volume! 👌

Damn that looks like a cold gig. Heaters on stage and everything!! Good excuse for those awesome matching track suits though!!!
Those open moments are flowing like chocolate on vanilla ice cream!
This has a definite Chuck Mangione feel to it, I LOVE it!!
It was awesome seeing you live at Stubbs, thanks for the great memories Cory!
We were there! It was amazing in person!
When Wong decides to make a City Pop song, he goes hard. I totally imagine Kingo Hamada singing over this and it just sitting right.

Jay Webb going full Chuck Mangione on the ol' flug!

Two master classes in soloing. Superb.
Great Sonny T -on his bass solo accompanied by voice.
If this was outdoors, I can only imagine how good it must have sounded without all the reverb from a big hall muddying up the sound. Glorious
Great crisp sound, as crisp as the weather that night!
Truly amazing! Everyone in this band is simply outstanding!

What I really love about this band...is that on top of being the tightest ever, it has such great soloist!
