  • What is the difference between a normal takeoff / normal landing and his combat counterparts?
    The answer is for sure pretty simple and maybe supprising for you.
    By the way.
    I am not a military pilot and never flown even combat like missions. But it is not that difficult to see the differences.
    Is this the right time to talk about Combat takeoff and landing during flight training. Maybe not in the first few.
    But there is another, more vital aspect that needs to point at any time.
    Fling a helicopter is not only moving an aircraft from one place to another, which is only a matter of training. More critical is that fling a helicopter is, much more than an airplane, a constant decision-making process.
    ETG or TOT limit may exceed in DCS for 2 minutes, while in real life for 20 minutes if naccesarry.

    hmm, so according to the SMEs, the us army pilots we work with, a combat landing would not only be a calculated risc. Most likely, the safety comes first. If the LZ is hot and there is no way to make a proper landing, they would call out that they are unable to make it if the weapons that are facing you are to big and to dangerous. There is no practical reason to risc a helicopter and a crew on purpose in RL. So before such a landing in a hot LZ would be done, there would be a threat assesment being done and if needed, CAS would be called in to clear the LZ as much as possible, to ensure lowest threat level as possible.

      Hey Sven,
      You are absolutely right. So this is more about the difference in performing the landing than about tactics.
      And to be honest, in DCS you can fly with such real-life assessments in mind, but it may break the fun and the mission. In this perspective, it is a game.

    At 2:48 the windsock suggests you're doing a left crosswind approach. Was this intentional? i.e. due to other factors/obstacles?

    • @navyswabby
      @navyswabby 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is that in DCS the windsock shows STRENGTH of wind, but not DIRECTION. It is placed on the map with a facing, say north-south. If the wind is blowing from the west, the windsock still will stream out to the south. The windsock will always point it's set direction, even if the wind changes direction during the mission. At 2:48, the smoke is blowing toward the helo, but the wind sock is blowing 90° off.

    I really liked this. Still trying to learn the huey. I would have found it helpful to know what your pedals and collective were doing while you were performing these manoeuvres. Great video, subscribed

      @@lowlevelheaven Thanks man, I think I need to be a bit more patience with the landings. Usually I end up in a hover 200 feet above the landing spot, then just try and bring the heli down to land.

    How do you take off with this heli without walking on the runway on msfs2020?
    Also how do you landing with this heli in msfs2020? I have some trouble in landing? any help?

      Ther are Videos for takeoff and landing on my channel as well.
      If you rely like to learn Helo flight? Change to DCS and I will give you some online lesson.
      In one to two hours you will be able to takeoff and land safely.

    A simpler way is L WIN Home, which puts the startup in auto sequence mode. Takes away all the hard work of remembering what switches to push. Same with shutdown, which is L WIN End

      You're right about that, but there's also a very big but. 😎
      DCS is currently the most complex and realistic simulation of aircraft. It is precisely this complexity that makes it so appealing and poses a certain challenge. The experience in DCS should be as close to real life as possible.
      This is not related to the use of the self start function. The same is true for many missions.
      Everyone wants to feel like Tom Cruise, but without having to do anything for it and then complaining about realism.
      I also use the self start function occasionally in different types, but I think you should try it without as often as possible. Gladly also with checklist, which contributes to the realism. 🖖

      @@lowlevelheaven I know what you mean. However, working and flying solely with keyboard and mouse as I don't own a Hotas, you can imagine the hard work that is already being put in to fly and control this, along with the numerous jets I have?. This is the only model I have used autostart and autostop on. 👍

    • @lowlevelheaven
      @lowlevelheaven  ปีที่แล้ว

      Respect. 👍 I've tried this for fun too, and if you get off the ground fast enough, it works. But it's not really that great.
      Even with the cheapest joystick or HOTAS it goes worlds better.
      But the problem lies somewhere else. 🥺
      It is a crime to play DCS with a keyboard and mouse. So the question is, do you turn yourself in, or do you wait until the special task force gets you out of bed at night? 😂

      You can join our squadron if you like DCS and the Huey and invest a little in hardware. Of course you can also visit us with keyboard and mouse and get an impression.
      If you use DISCORD, you are also welcome to DIRECT with Scoop, one of our British pilots.
