  • Shangri-La Sydney, considered one of Sydney’s favourite 5 star hotels nestled in the harbour city of Sydney’s Circular Quay, Australia. But is it a 5 star by today’s standards? Or is it a 4 star? We spent a night in the luxury hotel to find out for ourselves and invite you to join us as we check out all the facilities, dine in the restaurant and sip cocktails in the elevated cocktail bar.
It boasts stunning views soaring across 36 levels. The 564 guest rooms and suites, coupled with a gym, pool and spa overlooking the breathtaking Sydney Harbour with additional views of the Opera House. At the time of booking, we were treated to the Shangri-La Sydney collaboration with Hendricks Gin in the Blu Bar on 36 and what a wonderful theme throughout the venue. It was an unforgettable experience, that’s for sure.
We were celebrating a special occasion and found that the staff at the Shangri-La Sydney were well accommodating at a time that was in high demand due to Taylor Swift being on tour in Sydney, Lunar New Year celebrations continue and it's Sydney Mardi Gras Season. We were shocked at many things this hotel had to offer so stick around, enjoy the content and leave a comment with your own opinion, would you agree it’s a 5 star?
Dining at the Shangri-La’s restaurant namely Altitude, we managed to book a window seated table and feasted on the 5-course menu. During this time being Lunar New Year, the Chef’s Signature menu certainly catered to the theme. The world class, 5-star luxury dining experience certainly exceeded our expectations and taste buds. Was that the same in all aspects? Join us as we explore the Shangri-La in February 2024.

It’s a great hotel, we’ve stayed at all of them and keep going back to the Shangri-La. I will say it needs a revamp it is getting a bit tiered in places and the rooms get a lot better as you go up. The Blu Bar is fantastic and superb cocktails but the great thing after the views is it’s location

I must say I’ve stayed at a few inner Sydney ‘5’ star hotels which I would rate as 3.5 to 4.

I've definitely stayed in some 4-5 stars in America and throughout South-East Asia, so in comparison some of the hotels along Circular Quay I would agree with your rating (but I haven't stayed at all of them 🙂 )

It appears that the best thing about this hotel is the view. Hotel wise it actually looks very generic, could be anywhere. I would imagine it’s a definite 4* though I’ve not stayed there so could change my mind. 😊

So did you actually see the sunset at the Altitude? Or just the sky changing colour?

Being on the eastern side of the country and facing in the eastern direction from this view, no sunset upon the horizon...just the colours.
