Gotta love that on top of the existing comeback mechanic (extra meter after losing a round), Vlov has his own comeback mechanic built into him with his post-round loss stance switch. Pretty dope.
Might look nice...but that barely did any damage considering it even had an ex drive in it. Pretty bad combo actually. The first combo Vlov lands in the first round was better.
20 hours late but here I am 0:14 Love the dark aesthetic of the stage already 0:23 that's one big button and one big fireball (well, at least it looks like a fireball), is he going to be another character to control the screen? 0:24 She gets her way in, but before she could hit Vlov with a grounded move while he was in the air (unblockable) he was able to jump out, maybe she could've used a move with more blockstun to hit him with the unblockable? (If there aren't any mechanic that go against that). Then he messed Miyako up by floating above her, and instead of jumping and trying to get her turn with an aerial, she just tries to use tiny grounded buttons to aa, and of course she doesn't hit him, but lucky her, the moves had low recovery so she didn't got punished. Vlov takes his turn by falling with an aerial. 0:26 big button into a move that completely cover the floor? Looks like Terry's power wave, or should I say, Power Geyser, because that thing is huge. Big buttons and long projectiles, yup, seems like another space control character. 0:27 dashes into Moon Drive, and as always, uses it as a pause button to react to whatever the opponent is doing, maybe tried to see and shield another fireball or power wave? She sees him not doing anything, so she tries to counter something with a lariat type move, doesn't work and she gets put in pressure. 0:29 more big buttons into what it looks like a big overhead that lets him combo. 0:32 He goes for the ex fireball that looks like Roa's triple lightning, that cover the bottom half of the screen. That gave him a lot of advantage, but instead of starting his pressure of knockdown, he just charges to get an extra bar but doesn't do anything with it, looked like a better idea to close up and pressure with the big buttons, he didn't got anything with that and I can't see any advantages by doing that other than returning to neutral, and although he looks like a neutral heavy character, it still seems better to just start his pressure. 0:34 that's a very long and fast jump, wonder if every character has that same jump, it looks very good to avoid grounded long buttons and projectiles. And what's that move afterwards for? She doesn't look plus after that, maybe is an anti anti-air? Or just for movement because she kept air options after that. After that Vlov crosses under Miyako and went for another big button to try and punish but she landed quickly. 0:37 alright, what's that? A move that covers in front and above him while having a long hitbox at the end. Maybe it's good for anti-airing because how big it is, but here, he uses it as a safe ender, and looks like he's plus due to how fast he went for fireball afterwards. It also looks like a good move after knockdown because how hard it looks to avoid and also he's plus. 0:38 she shields the fireball, but he moon drives it (maybe on reaction) so he could've punish whatever the shield follow up was, so knowing that, Miyako doesn't do anything so she doesn't get punished. Both return to neutral. O:41 I thought that was a shield but looks like a parry/counter move where he dashes forward. Because of the long buttons, the fireball, the power wave and now this, that looks like a dash counter, interacting against him in neutral seems very risky, hopefully his moves have lot of recovery to compensate. He gets a combo from that too, and knockdowns. (0:44 looks like he could've rejumped here) 0:46 I don't know about heating when you have that much meter. Of course you get them off of you and gets health back, but it will not stop going down, meaning that you'll loose all of it, so using when you have only one bar, it's like you're trading that one bar to a get off me tool and for health back and a invincible reversal for little meter, with that much it looks like you're spending too much. Maybe EXs are less expensive when in Heat? 0:47 she's *very* fast. She looks like a rush down character because of her speed and that her normals look like they'll only work from up close. (Just read the description, and it said that she's a close range and speedy character, so yes, she's rush down) 0:48 that looked like a Tiger Knee fireball that cover the whole bottom portion of the screen, in trade of some moon meter. It also looks like he recovers very fast from it because of how fast he double jumped out if it. Seems like a low risk move, and high reward if he gets a combo if that Fatal Counters. But it's justified just by how important moon drive is as a pause button, so using it randomly will get you screwed for bad management. 0:49 that's the same very good jump from before, and she punishes the fireball with a high damaging combo. Love the arc drive, just a little girl sending you to the moon. 0:54 she could start moving before he even fell, so that's a hell of a mix opportunity just because she has years of frame advantage to work with. She goes for an aerial that hits both sides, so she uses it as a cross-up, that's crazy good, but the craziest thing is when after she lands, she goes for a grounded crossup move that looks hella hard to block, and she gets a full on combo afterwards. She's a very mixup heavy character because of that. 1:01 she gets to dash cancel her button, tick throws will be strong. Using heat on blockstun has quite the startup, I don't think it's reactable, but there's at least enough time for them to read you and shield the Heat. And that was even more dangerous considering that Miyako could've dash blocked a heat attempt. 1:03 he covers the air and the ground with that double fireball, wow. That looked like it was a follow up, not a whiff cancel. 1:05 Miyako goes for the same jump after (probably) seeing him jumping (she might've done it preemptively) and tries to catch him with an airthrow. Vlov might've baited her to jump at him so he could air throw her back to the corner. It looks like they both had different ideas that lead to a tech throw. Also, you keep air options after techinng an airthrow so it's good to do like Mikayo did, float in the air, wait for them to whiff a button trying to hit you, then rush in and take your turn. 1:07 your health doesn't regen when you're blocking. That was a safe ender that does quite a lot of chip. 1:09 he jumps out of pressure, she reacted to it very slowly and jumped very late, by that time Vlov already had fallen with a button, then confirmed it into arc drive (are one button into arc drive optimal because of damage scaling?) 1:14 same thing as 0:38, but did he went for the double fireball and moon drives between the two? That seems strong for setups, mainly if they don't know that there's a second one incoming. Maybe he can mix it up by only using one where they think there's going to be two so they keep on the ground giving Vlov time to run up and take his turn? 1:16 they both dashed at each other similarly to 1:05 but Vlov was faster with the button. 1:20 meaty with a rekka? Doesn't look like he's plus. 1:21 another das moon drive, this time she predicts a button and preemptively shields and punishes it. Her combos seems to do a lot of damage, but she didn't went for knockdown, that's bad in this situation Main because it left him difficult for her to catch him. 1:28 nice flip 1:30 an invincible command dash? That only makes her rush down game stronger since she can go through projectiles and big buttons. She couldn't punish him here but she takes her turn (almost hit his shield by accident). 1:33 so doing true blockstrings is going to be a big deal because of shield. Vlov takes the round (the longest one we've seen yet) 1:47 She tries to close the distance through the floor while he tries to go away through the air. 1:49 she tries to catch him, misses then she doesn't do anything since her normals are pretty short while Vlov's are big. That's the punishment for messing up the approach, but she doesn't get punished. 1:51 She tries to close distance from the ground again and dash blocks into his aerial double fireball, where he keeps his air options, so he jumps, giving her more time to try to get close while he tries to punish that with an aerial, but he misses. 1:52 stubby normals versus big sword, lucky her, he wasn't fast enough to punish that option, and that looked like it could've been a short anti-air? Maybe trying to hit him after the fireball if he air dashed at her trying to start pressure, didn't worked but she didn't got punished. 1:53 what beautiful normals those are. I assume reverse beat is safe on block (maybe plus) but using at the end of that string, since he was so far, that last normal didn't hit, so he could safely return to neutral. Reverse Beats are safe enders for every character. 1:54 she tries to close in with an air dash, but does it very slowly, by taking a lot of time double jumping, and that gave time to Vlov to just hit a button that gave him a combo. Maybe if she was fast enough she could've countered that button or if she kept at a safe distance and waited for that aerial, she could've air dashed in and *then* punish it (mid-air footsies lol). 1:57 same thing as 0:37, and that was his Rapid Beat, is that thing not even a special and yes a normal? That's so weird. If that's the end of rapid beat and not a special, it means he can't just use it on knockdown. If that's the case, then It's pretty sad. Now that I looked back at it, it doesn't look like he did the same string as before, so is it... I'm so confused. 2:00 Anyway.... he gets a combo into a knockdown then meaties with the fireball. Doesn't get anything out of it doe, maybe if it hit he would've confirmed into ex (he didn't had moon drive), but he doesn't get anything if they block? Seems a bit weak, but considering the character is more neutral heavy and that leaves him in neutral, it's fine I guess. Again, my comment is too big, now I have to continue it in the replies.
Just wanted to let you know at 1:01 that wasn’t dash cancel it was 623B. Her medium dp kicks that has a running animation when it starts and hits overhead. Same move she has in mbaacc on her c moon type with the afterimages on the dash just before the kicks.
Ever since i saw Vlov i was thinking that Miyako was going to have a hard time dealing with those projectiles, i know the meta will evolve but this gives me hope as a Miyako main because i know there's going to be a lot of Vlov mains in a week

I mean, fighting games in general (I think even Mortal Kombat at times) are about embracing the absurd, so... I mean, I still get what you mean. Even _for_ a fighting game, that's a pretty insane match-up.

It always intriguing to watch a matchup between a zoner fighter and a rushdown fighter in a fighting game. Just like other matchups from other fighting games such as Axl Low vs Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear. Interestingly, Vlov's use of fire is quite similar to his use of ice, alright. Wonder on how that works exactly?
There's always a Famitsu article which goes into more detail with each character's announcement. When Vlov's one round away from losing, his flame moves are replaced with ice moves, which have stronger properties (the Famistu article specifically notes that his icicles and ground-traveling projectile both gain faster startups and travel speeds compared to the fire equivalents).
While Akiha extracts life-force in the form of physical heat, Vlov can manipulate heat itself. Transferring it as fire takes more calculation than just bringing the natural instability of air to a freezing point (like how hot stuff hardens and cracks faster than the already cold in the freezer). So he's taking the fight more seriously.
I think this matchup is as good an early gauge as to how winnable lopsided matches are in MBTL; miyako has no range and neutral and must get in, whereas vlov probably has the best zoning in the game and long normals.
It's lopsided both ways really which makes it balanced in the end. Miyako has to work hard to get in but will beat the tar out of Vlov once she does get in. Vlov will have a hard time getting away from Miyako but will have a the advantage once he manages to get away. Each character just has to follow their game plan and the one that executes it better wins. There is no inherent winner just bas saying Zoner vs Rushdown. If one of them has an op kit withing their archetype, that's a different story, but that is to be seen, game isn't even out yet. Thb thou, with the way shield works, I think zoners have an inherent disadvantage in this game. Al it takes to get in is to shield one projectile and then you can either teleport in or moon skill diagonal invincible dash in.
TBF it has become easier for miyako to get in now. She has a run now and theres 2 shield followups that can essentially skip neutral. On top of that in mid range she seems to be the only character so far to have a dodge (her forward cartwheel) which she can also do after whiffed elbow, meanin she can get thru stuff even easier than before. That’s not even including moon skills which all look like they start up fast, have armour, and can be made safe to continue pressure. I think getting in w miyako isnt gonna be as hard as it is rn
Having Vlov showcased in full and pretty much confirming the mechanic behind his ice and fire gimmick, I can't help but be a little disappointed. However, that has more to do with getting excited about my assumptions over anything. When I first saw the character laid out and saw that he had some overlap between his fire and ice moves, I thought to myself "Oh shit, is this a stance-based zoner?". You don't really see alot of stance-characters for projectiles. In fact, I really couldn't name you a single example. The prospect of that became so exciting in my head that I just kinda ignored the glaring holes in that narrative, chief among them being the lack of any visual indication of stances. When I finally dug in and came to the conclusion "Oh, it's just a character-specific comeback mechanic", I probably would've just been fine with it if it weren't for the fact that I got myself hyped up over nothing. It won't change the fact that Vlov will probably be my primary pick to start though, though with Red Arc revealed, he could just as easily go second or even third.
Vlov's optimal combo structure looks so different from just the regular jB.jC.jB.jC.airgrab structure. i like it, makes him seem more individualistic kinda.
I'm so sold now, Miyako is looking so fun. Wondering if the elbow combos (like the flying kick to elbow then grab whiff) is still a thing. 2:51 yes they kept that win pose now all that is left is seeing the XD face. It look like this will be a bad match up (no suprise, like most of the cast) for her if you really good with the guy

I have never played a Melty and I am so excited to get my hands on this game. I played a little bit of UNICLR but not much. The dive kick ender and roll remind me of Linne who is the character I played. That’s where I would say the similarities end. Lol There’s a few characters that have interested me, but still not sure who I will try first.
Yeah Miyako is a rushdown inclined character kinda like what Linne could do. Since UNIEL came to life from the corpse of Melty Blood HD you will see a lot of similarities. Also Eltnum is originally from Melty Too but sadly you won't be seeing her her because of lore.
I'll be honest I was sleeping on Miyako based off the first two rounds since it it seemed like Vlov controlled the entire pace, but when she got her flow going in the 3rd round...Jeez that was hype!

She goes for an aerial that hits both sides, so she uses it as a cross-up, that's crazy good, but the craziest thing is when after she lands, she goes for a grounded crossup move that looks hella hard to block, and she gets a full on combo afterwards. She's a very mixup heavy character because of that.
1:01 she gets to dash cancel her button, tick throws will be strong. Using heat on blockstun has quite the startup, I don't think it's reactable, but there's at least enough time for them to read you and shield the Heat. And that was even more dangerous considering that Miyako could've dash blocked a heat attempt.
1:03 he covers the air and the ground with that double fireball, wow. That looked like it was a follow up, not a whiff cancel.
1:05 Miyako goes for the same jump after (probably) seeing him jumping (she might've done it preemptively) and tries to catch him with an airthrow. Vlov might've baited her to jump at him so he could air throw her back to the corner. It looks like they both had different ideas that lead to a tech throw. Also, you keep air options after techinng an airthrow so it's good to do like Mikayo did, float in the air, wait for them to whiff a button trying to hit you, then rush in and take your turn.
1:07 your health doesn't regen when you're blocking. That was a safe ender that does quite a lot of chip.
1:09 he jumps out of pressure, she reacted to it very slowly and jumped very late, by that time Vlov already had fallen with a button, then confirmed it into arc drive (are one button into arc drive optimal because of damage scaling?)
1:14 same thing as 0:38, but did he went for the double fireball and moon drives between the two? That seems strong for setups, mainly if they don't know that there's a second one incoming. Maybe he can mix it up by only using one where they think there's going to be two so they keep on the ground giving Vlov time to run up and take his turn?

1:21 another das moon drive, this time she predicts a button and preemptively shields and punishes it. Her combos seems to do a lot of damage, but she didn't went for knockdown, that's bad in this situation Main because it left him difficult for her to catch him.

1:30 an invincible command dash? That only makes her rush down game stronger since she can go through projectiles and big buttons. She couldn't punish him here but she takes her turn (almost hit his shield by accident).

1:47 She tries to close the distance through the floor while he tries to go away through the air.
1:49 she tries to catch him, misses then she doesn't do anything since her normals are pretty short while Vlov's are big. That's the punishment for messing up the approach, but she doesn't get punished.
1:51 She tries to close distance from the ground again and dash blocks into his aerial double fireball, where he keeps his air options, so he jumps, giving her more time to try to get close while he tries to punish that with an aerial, but he misses.
1:52 stubby normals versus big sword, lucky her, he wasn't fast enough to punish that option, and that looked like it could've been a short anti-air? Maybe trying to hit him after the fireball if he air dashed at her trying to start pressure, didn't worked but she didn't got punished.
1:53 what beautiful normals those are. I assume reverse beat is safe on block (maybe plus) but using at the end of that string, since he was so far, that last normal didn't hit, so he could safely return to neutral. Reverse Beats are safe enders for every character.
1:54 she tries to close in with an air dash, but does it very slowly, by taking a lot of time double jumping, and that gave time to Vlov to just hit a button that gave him a combo. Maybe if she was fast enough she could've countered that button or if she kept at a safe distance and waited for that aerial, she could've air dashed in and *then* punish it (mid-air footsies lol).
1:57 same thing as 0:37, and that was his Rapid Beat, is that thing not even a special and yes a normal? That's so weird. If that's the end of rapid beat and not a special, it means he can't just use it on knockdown. If that's the case, then It's pretty sad. Now that I looked back at it, it doesn't look like he did the same string as before, so is it... I'm so confused.
2:00 Anyway.... he gets a combo into a knockdown then meaties with the fireball. Doesn't get anything out of it doe, maybe if it hit he would've confirmed into ex (he didn't had moon drive), but he doesn't get anything if they block? Seems a bit weak, but considering the character is more neutral heavy and that leaves him in neutral, it's fine I guess.

Just wanted to let you know at 1:01 that wasn’t dash cancel it was 623B. Her medium dp kicks that has a running animation when it starts and hits overhead. Same move she has in mbaacc on her c moon type with the afterimages on the dash just before the kicks.

It always intriguing to watch a matchup between a zoner fighter and a rushdown fighter in a fighting game. Just like other matchups from other fighting games such as Axl Low vs Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear. Interestingly, Vlov's use of fire is quite similar to his use of ice, alright. Wonder on how that works exactly?
He starts with fire and when he loses a round his moves go to ice mode.
There's always a Famitsu article which goes into more detail with each character's announcement. When Vlov's one round away from losing, his flame moves are replaced with ice moves, which have stronger properties (the Famistu article specifically notes that his icicles and ground-traveling projectile both gain faster startups and travel speeds compared to the fire equivalents).
While Akiha extracts life-force in the form of physical heat, Vlov can manipulate heat itself. Transferring it as fire takes more calculation than just bringing the natural instability of air to a freezing point (like how hot stuff hardens and cracks faster than the already cold in the freezer).
So he's taking the fight more seriously.
I think this matchup is as good an early gauge as to how winnable lopsided matches are in MBTL; miyako has no range and neutral and must get in, whereas vlov probably has the best zoning in the game and long normals.
It could be either way I mean it doesn't look like he has a reversal. Cammy Dhalsim is the same way but that matchup is awful for Dhalsim
Yeah rushdown vs zoner is not really that lopsided, the slow big bodies are the ones who suffer.
Melty doesn't really have slow tank grappler archetype like Zangief so no one should be suffering that much.
It's lopsided both ways really which makes it balanced in the end. Miyako has to work hard to get in but will beat the tar out of Vlov once she does get in. Vlov will have a hard time getting away from Miyako but will have a the advantage once he manages to get away. Each character just has to follow their game plan and the one that executes it better wins. There is no inherent winner just bas saying Zoner vs Rushdown. If one of them has an op kit withing their archetype, that's a different story, but that is to be seen, game isn't even out yet. Thb thou, with the way shield works, I think zoners have an inherent disadvantage in this game. Al it takes to get in is to shield one projectile and then you can either teleport in or moon skill diagonal invincible dash in.
TBF it has become easier for miyako to get in now. She has a run now and theres 2 shield followups that can essentially skip neutral. On top of that in mid range she seems to be the only character so far to have a dodge (her forward cartwheel) which she can also do after whiffed elbow, meanin she can get thru stuff even easier than before. That’s not even including moon skills which all look like they start up fast, have armour, and can be made safe to continue pressure. I think getting in w miyako isnt gonna be as hard as it is rn
Having Vlov showcased in full and pretty much confirming the mechanic behind his ice and fire gimmick, I can't help but be a little disappointed. However, that has more to do with getting excited about my assumptions over anything. When I first saw the character laid out and saw that he had some overlap between his fire and ice moves, I thought to myself "Oh shit, is this a stance-based zoner?". You don't really see alot of stance-characters for projectiles. In fact, I really couldn't name you a single example. The prospect of that became so exciting in my head that I just kinda ignored the glaring holes in that narrative, chief among them being the lack of any visual indication of stances. When I finally dug in and came to the conclusion "Oh, it's just a character-specific comeback mechanic", I probably would've just been fine with it if it weren't for the fact that I got myself hyped up over nothing. It won't change the fact that Vlov will probably be my primary pick to start though, though with Red Arc revealed, he could just as easily go second or even third.

I have never played a Melty and I am so excited to get my hands on this game. I played a little bit of UNICLR but not much. The dive kick ender and roll remind me of Linne who is the character I played. That’s where I would say the similarities end. Lol There’s a few characters that have interested me, but still not sure who I will try first.
Yeah Miyako is a rushdown inclined character kinda like what Linne could do. Since UNIEL came to life from the corpse of Melty Blood HD you will see a lot of similarities. Also Eltnum is originally from Melty Too but sadly you won't be seeing her her because of lore.
