I stopped buying fishing mags as they seem more interested in plugging expensive gear you don’t t need instead of teaching practical low cost means of fishing. I’m a complete amateur and I have learned so much just from watching Graeme’s channel.
Great video graham I’m really getting into the stick float fishing only started trying it this season havnt had much chance on my local river the middle Severn it’s been a total wash for best part of the season I’m gutted hopefully next year is a better season tight lines
The old mitchell match was a good reel. It had a finger dab bale arm. I loved mine. I used to use an intrepid closed faced reel as well. Love the channel
There are some reels called baitcasters (not the Bass variation) but with a function that lets you set the drag to 0 and you have a trigger you can pull for instant contact with your line, that makes it so that with little pull from the float, you can keep up with a steady flow of line. thus making the whole line on the ground not needed
I used to use them fifty years ago when it was all the fashion.I had an Alcock's Aerial and a Rapidex. Used them on the Barbel in the mid 60's (That's 1960's...NOT 1860's )
Graeme, here`s a stick float fishing tip for you.........the bottom float rubber, should be longer than the others and slightly over hanging the base of your stick float. This helps to stop your line wrapping around the base of the float and causing tangles, line damage etc.....One question for you........is that pub at Ringwood ??? I`m sure I`ve driven past it in my lorry ???Great video.......all the best to you.
Many thanks for your reply Graeme.I was shown the float rubber/stick float thing by an old die hard river only angler, about 20 years ago...... I`ve done it ever since.
I see that you put the damp bran in further upstream to allow it time to sink, but won’t the maggots and pellets just fall out of the mixture and settle too soon?
Thank you for the quick answer ! It's to protect fishes during spawning season I guess. In France, there is a similar closing but only for pike/sander from january to may (and trout fishing open in march).
Learnt more from this guy than a million ad ridden fishing mags

I still have a faithful old ABU 505 , I gave one away years ago. I won't part with this one so quickly. Thanks for everything Graeme.

Super set of Dace. I have had the odd one or two in the mooring while fishing for Roach but nothing like that.

Unless you inadvertently tapped the bail arm at the wrong time and it popped open!
I go to this spot on a weekly basis it’s such a nice spot in Ringwood
Fantastic fishing . What else can I say!
I used to have closed one. It kept messing up the line inside. I was lucky when I got rid of it
Nice fishing👍

I think I remember back in the day a firm called Zebco marketed a match reel like that??
Do you ever use a center pin for river fishing .
I used to use them fifty years ago when it was all the fashion.I had an Alcock's Aerial and a Rapidex. Used them on the Barbel in the mid 60's (That's 1960's...NOT 1860's )
@@TAFishing seen the price of them these days!!!

@@TAFishing I never remember Ringwood being that noisy!!
expertly done!
did you change the float at the end ?
What is the reason for winding the reel handle both ways? Thanks.
More constant pressure can be applied when backwinding...that's my experience anyway.
River stour Canterbury if you know where to fish there you can get huge dace I caught 5 dace between 12 and 15 ounces in half an hour
in the place where they do river boat toars its fairly deep with tonnes of reed
how do you find all these places to fish?
What camera do you use?
I see that you put the damp bran in further upstream to allow it time to sink, but won’t the maggots and pellets just fall out of the mixture and settle too soon?
In the faster current it all gets washed downstream. Its just slower rivers the heavier bait might settle earlier.
Nice net of beautiful big dace, worth putting up with the noise to catch that stamp of fish. Hope your ears survived
Nice video graeme, your dace haul made up for the noise .
What sort of polish Graeme ?
it says it was uploaded 2 weeks ago
it was
Hi Graeme, does the ryobi closed faced reels have drag?

Read the description man!
Jack Broughton yh it's closed now.
I didn't know there was a season for river fishing in the UK. It is closed the whole spring and summer ?
Closes from March 15th - June 15th inclusive - so 3 months of the spring basically
Thank you for the quick answer ! It's to protect fishes during spawning season I guess. In France, there is a similar closing but only for pike/sander from january to may (and trout fishing open in march).
