      @@ana547 ah i see, yes many laptops do not have the ability to run disks anymore. I think the real trick to passing the hazard perception is understanding how it works. I have not done hazard perception practice for years, but I would be quite confident to do it as I know how the system works.

    Surely, the DVLA has to come up with a better way of testing this. It's highly possible that a good driver would click too early on the hazard and fail.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +197

      Yes that is true, and many driving instructors do click to early as they anticipate want might happen.
      The hazard perception test does not test anticipation, more reactions.
      imo a driver should be proactive anticipation and not reactive and just slam the brakes on when seeing something at the last second.
      But it is better than nothing, well that is the way I think about it.

    • @Chloe-gd8qk
      @Chloe-gd8qk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +122

      That’s the problem I found with hazard perception while practicing, during my test I clicked the hazard once when I Firth’s saw it and about 2/3 seconds later to make sure I hadn’t clicked to early. In the end I got 65/75 on my hazard perception

    • @myfrequencies1912
      @myfrequencies1912 5 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      My problem with it first time around was just not acknowledging what the test considers "potential hazards". If you actually got behind the wheel with such a paranoid attitude you'd never get above 5mph! Not really relevant in the real world at all but probably ok as an introduction for absolute beginners.

    • @myfrequencies1912
      @myfrequencies1912 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Chloe-gd8qk That is a great tip. It didn't bust you for "clicking too often" then? I believe it warns of this at the start of the test.

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@myfrequencies1912 the hazard perception test does not assess your judgment of potential hazards, only the developing ones, so the ones which you DO need to brake or steer. If you did not spot the developing hazard then it means you would crash when driving.
      Also bear in mind the theory test and hazard perception is mainly aimed at complete beginners.

    I would like to add to this, use the time they allow you during the Theory test to steady your nerves, take a breather.
    Do the tutorial at the start of the test, it helped me to settle into the test and get comfortable with how the system works.
    If you complete the multiple choice answers part quickly then use the remainder of the time to go over the answers you gave and use some of that time to relax yourself before the Hazard Perception as well as use the 3 minutes between the multiple choice questions and the Hazard perception the system allows you.
    I found that doing as many hazard perception tests online can greatly help but as a side note i actually found the online ones much harder than the real test, this is probably due to lower video quality that has been uploaded but at the end of the day it all helps.
    People like Driving Crawly give some great advise for learning to drive, the tests etc etc.
    Now for my Test Results :D
    Multiple Choice: 50 out of 50 correct
    Hazard Perception: 63 out of 75 Points
    He shoots, he scores, PASS.

    8:10 He was just walking on the other side of pavement at a ridiculously slow speed.. Why would the driver stop for someone NOT waiting at the crossing? that rule is to give way to ped who are waiting to cross. He clearly wasn't, and had the driver continued at the speed, he'd barely have reached the crossing even then. --BESIDES: Whether the driver wishes to wait/go, There was NO developing hazard. So maintaining the same speed would not add to the (lack of) hazard at all.

    I do not get this test at all. I’ve been driving safely for 35 years, the number of accidents I’ve been involved in in that time I can count on one hand and none of them my fault. I’m due to take this test soon as I’m applying to become an ADI. I’ve been doing some practice sessions and it almost seems as though you need to react before any potential hazard is even visible. If you react when I would react if I were driving in reality then it seems as though you completely miss the scoring window.

      You could of course just click for the developing hazard but I like to click for any major potential hazards to keep me on my toes.
      If you are not in the habit of clicking I would say they could be a risk of not clicking at all for the developing hazard.
      Just don't click for every tiny potential hazard, like every parked car or every driveway.

      Yes exactly, hazards are not different on 2 wheels or 4.
      Just make sure you know you stuff about riding bikes, as they may have questions about balance, bike maintenance and things that only effective bikes, such as skid risk caused by metal drain covers.

      Remember the pass mark for the hazard perception is 44, so at the moment you are passing by 6 points, so you should stand good chance. Keep practicing the hazard perception and also remember to be aiming to get 47 / 50 or more for the multiple choice questions mock tests. Most people fail because of the questions, not the hazard perception.

Questions that are hard to understand as you have not context to put them in, as a new driver you may know nothing about car maintenance or basic medical things for example.

    Hazard perception ( 64/75 )
    Multiple Choice ( 47/50 )
    😅 I was stressing out for no reason the test really ended up being super easy( at least for me) I did all my revision in 4 days but I did it full on like for hourss. I recommend starting your revision at least a week earlier so that you are confident and stress less unlike me 😅For revision I highly highly recommend buying the 4 in 1 theory app, it has absolutely everything in it, its sooo worth itt, I would have never passed without that app! Am I correct in that most of the clips will only demonstrate 1developing hazard? If so, surely good judgement will tell you what is and isn't going to be the scored hazard, thus saving clicks/eliminating the risk of being disqualified? Yet you advised in one part to click when approaching parked cars on the lift in case someone pulls out/they can't see you, then advised to only click for developing hazards, and not for potential ones?

    • @UKDrivingTest
      @UKDrivingTest  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Technically you are correctly, you only need to click on the developing hazards and it should be fairly obvious.
      However the official advise is to also click on potential hazards (just don't click like a mad made on every parked car you see or every pedestrian).
      I would also say it is a good idea to click on any higher risk potential hazards just to get you concentrating and always looking for hazards.
      In my other videos on hazard perception I experimented to how many times you can click and proved you can in fact score 5 points with just 1 click, but it is not a recommended technique.
      th-cam.com/video/OCafg91DBgY/w-d-xo.html

  • @skycrafts5140
    @skycrafts5140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Surely the example of the cyclist approaching the pedestrian crossing is only a developing hazard once they begin to cross the road? - They could have easily decided to stop and wait? - So to get max points you have to click on the potential hazard, not the developing hazard? I have also seen clips where there were two definite developing hazards, and the camera car had to slow for the hazard, but these weren't the actual hazards - a 3rd developing hazard was the one that got the points. I find it all very inconsistent.
    Also, the example in this video of the man walking towards a zebra crossing - what if he was going to his car, passed the crossing, on the right? Yes, watch him, be prepared to slow and stop, be having to click BEFORE there is even any indication that he is going to use the crossing, to get 5 points? To me, that is not a developing hazard. It is still a potential hazard.
    The same with the car in the car park. The scoring window starts when the car is driving slowly in the correct lane. Again, surely still a potential hazard? If it continued in the correct lane, the camera car would not need to slow (except for the bend) or change road position - and one of these things must be required to denote a 'developing hazard'?

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    00:37 🚗 To pass the Hazard Perception Test, you need to score at least 44 out of 75 points, with a maximum of 5 points per developing hazard.
    01:07 🚧 Hazards are points where you must take action by slowing down or steering to avoid an accident. Identifying developing hazards is key.
    02:25 🚗 Be aware of concealed drivers when approaching T-junctions, as they might not see you.
    02:48 🚴‍♀️ Children on bicycles can be developing hazards, especially if they might cycle into the road. Use the 2-click method when a hazard starts to develop.
    03:38 🚗 Avoid clicking for every potential hazard to prevent over-clicking. Click for high-priority hazards, such as pedestrians near the curb or looking back.
    06:13 🚗 Focus on clicking for developing hazards, not potential ones, and avoid clicking too close together. Stay alert for multiple developing hazards in one clip.

      Cleverness is probably going to be a hindrance with questions as dumb as: "What do you do when you see horses on the road? A) Speed up & sound your horn. B) Slow down & pass wide with caution.
      You will smash it.

    Cheers for upload. The “double-click” method really helped me as I wasn’t doing very well on the practice tests. I seem to be seeing the potential hazards too early, and therefore my “click” not being counted. I also kept being disqualified for clicking in a pattern. It was getting very frustrating!
    The double-click method really helped me and I just passed first time, so thank you. I was actually doing the LGV hazard perception test. It’s 19 clips not 14 and the pass mark is 73 points out of a potential 100.
    Also helped that I live in Crawley so was nice to see it on roads I drive all the time. Now to book my LGV training. Any recommendations for anyone local?

      Glad the video helped, liking and subscribing helps to shows your appreciation :-)
      Regarding LGV training unfortunately I don't really know anyone, as Crawley test centre does not do LGV, think Worthing is the nearest place, or Guildford.

    I did this hazard perception test recently. Not as a learner driver, but as an experienced driver, and I failed it. I was constantly clicking too early. It's a rubbish test, and needs scrapping. It encourages drivers to wait in order to "confirm" a hazard instead of reacting to it in the first instance. This makes drivers reactive instead of predictive. It's shit.
    It is completely unfit for purpose. Such a typical, British half-assed solution to a very simple problem.
