Woodturning a Big Leaf Maple Burl and Bubinga Box

  • This grain is amazing! In this video, I turn a maple burl and Bubinga box with a sphere finial. I make the bowl and sphere shaped finial from maple burl, and the lid from Bubinga, also called African Rosewood.
This video is shown in my normal format of regular speed mixed with high speed scenes. My goal is to show the viewer the realities of turning while also showing as much of the project as I can within reason.
A special note to my subscribers! Please double check that your notification bell is activated so you can receive alerts when I upload a new video. I heard from quite a few of you that you’re having to re-click the bell, as TH-cam is somehow turning them off…
To those that are watching and haven’t subscribed, if you like what you see, smash that button and click the bell! I’d sure appreciate your support.
If you're interested in a tool rest, tool handles, live center adapters, Mike Benjamin makes amazing things, very high quality. Email him at woodturningstuff@yahoo.com
Anyone wanting me to show their work in a video: contact me at rhumphrey.woodworking@gmail.com. Please do not send me pics through Facebook messenger if you want them to be shown in a video. I’ll only refer you to the email address. This is important, because I keep track and show submitted photos in order of email receipt. Also, please understand that I am severely back logged, which is a good problem, but it may take a while for me to answer your email. Thank you!

Beautiful bowl the grain is stunning. I'm glad I found you. I'm very partial to watching Andy Phillips. But now I'm subscribed to you as well. Your voice is incredibly soothing and I love that you highlight the work of others that is very kind of you. I'm glad to be here. Thanks for having me 🤗

Good morning Rod. Thanks again for a great video. What I learned today.....You don't need a bunch of tools to get the job done. Sometimes I feel like I'm watching an advertisement for woodturning tools rather than a video on how to turn something. Also, learned more on your finishing process. Looks great. Stay safe, stay away...stay 6' away. thanks again.

The maple burl is stunning. The markings make the piece. The bubinga compliments it so well. The overall look of the bowl is beautiful. It is a different shape than the usual lidded bowls.
