  • Quick test fire of a Sport 40 hydro. This is a boat I picked up several years ago, but I can't remember now why I bought it. Anyway, looks like it's ready to go for next season!

    Hey Scott, really like your set up. Is that a piece of G10 that is holding the steering servo?

    That's a nice lookin setup Scott, I use CMB also.. I have a older CMB .91HR in my Aeromarine Donzi and she runs low to mid 50s. What's a good pipe length on the .91 and where should I measure from, glow plug or case?

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim Whyte - Thanks Jim. It doesn't matter how you measure your pipe so long as you always check it the same way. I've always measured from the rear of the head to the center of the weld or ridge in the center of the wide body portion of the pipe. On the .40 I use 9.5", on the .67 I run 10 3/8". I haven't run the .91 CMB so I'm not certain where to set the pipe. I'd probably start at about 11" and find the sweet spot via lots of testing!

    Hi Scott. I have a question. How long can you keep a water cooled motor running before launching? Thank you.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Only until it blows up!
      Just kidding, but in all seriousness you can't run it very long or it WILL blow up. Water cooled engines heat up much faster than air cooled motors specifically because they have water jackets surrounding the cylinder and head instead of fins. With no water flow the cooling jackets act as insulation, holding all the heat in the motor.
      Thus your goal should always be to start it and immediately put it on the water.
      What your see in this video is all the longer you should run without water

      @@M5PerfHydros Thank you for your answer. I am a hydropatic. But I live by the jonian sea. No lakes. But anyway I watch your videos all the time. There is a lot to learn.

    You think you can list all the parts you need to build a sport 40 (I already have a hull and cowl) thx. I bought the hull and cowl from phill Thomas

      Hmm, that's a tough one Ashton. Most of the hardware on my boats is custom parts that I build myself. Other items like the servos, linkage pieces, etc, are easily obtained at any hobby store. Probably the best way to get started and learn how to build boats is to buy complete older boats and rob the hardware from them. Another excellent source you already have; Phil Thomas. No doubt he could set you up with everything you'll need!

    Hi, is the servo next to the throttle for fuel cut off? can you not set throttle cut from the transmitter or is it a requirement for racing?

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy, that servo is connected to a fuel mixture control needle which can richen or lean the fuel mix slightly while running. It's occasionally handy if you miss the tune and need to tweak it on the fly

    Is sport 40 1/8th scale?

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Boyer - Sport 40's aren't replicas of full size hydroplanes so they aren't really scaled down from anything, but as a general rule they are smaller than most 1/8th scale boats

      oh ok. I was wondering because I have a Dumas Miss Circus Circus that apparently is not NAMBA legal. Was wondering if I could make it sport 40 legal.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Boyer - Hmm, I thought the Dumas kits were legal but I could be wrong. They aren't used by anyone I know of anymore because they aren't competitive in modern 1/8th scale competition. I'm sure you could run it in sport 40, but due to its size it probably wouldn't be competitive there either, sorry! Check out www.rcboatcompany.com , they have reasonably priced fiberglass hulls
