  • In November 1977, the Irish Rovers flew to New Zealand to tape two TV SuperSpecials, a co-production for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and N.Z’s TV One. Both were screened in 1978. The Canadian contingency consisted of the Rovers (Will Millar, George Millar, Jimmy Ferguson, Joe Millar, Wilcil McDowell and temporary Rover Bob O’Donovan), Toronto director Ron Maraska and Vancouver producer Ken Gibson, while the crew members were New Zealanders. Guests on the first Special on Location include popular duo Bill & Boyd, country singer John Hore, Yolande Gibson, the Bluegrass Expedition, the Kokatahi Band and the award winning Wellington City Pipe Band. The Rovers are greeted in Northland by the Te Roopu Manutaki (Maori) Cultural group performing haka and end with the group’s farewell love song, known to us as “Now is the Hour.” The music combines the Rovers’ well known songs along with New Zealand songs in a variety of locations. The forthcoming second Special is a combination of In Concert and on location in NZ.
Keep up with THE IRISH ROVERS! !

I'm SO glad you have access to these old shows and that you are sharing them! This must not have ever been aired in the US, and even with cable TV back then we couldn't get the CBC so this is the first time I've ever seen this show.

19:14 it’s very cool they took their 1977 recording of The Wellerman from this program and then turned into a full cover later on

Hope this was similar to a typo - at 41:00 "I wouldn't trade my life for diamonds or Jews" . Should of course be Jewels

Thank you very much again for this one. I remember another special in a 5 or 6 videos' row with parts of this special, the concert in the Christchurch Town Hall and some kind of explained behind-the-scene, unfortunately gone on YT and still impossible to find

Thanks so much for uploading this in it's complete form. I'd love to see a special they did in the Cotswolds if you happen to have that among your rovers videos. Thank you very much for sharing and I can't wait to see more of the lads. God Bless!!!
