Awesome video. I was always wondering about how to take them apart. God please bless Scrapitall. Take care of him and give him a wonderful evening and week. Thank you for his heart and honesty In Your name amen
You might try to cut the wires on one side of the stator, then pry them through from the other side. Or use your vice to flatten the whole ring, allowing you to push what wire you can to the inside, giving you fewer cuts. I appreciate you asking for a blessing.
Greetings scrapitall! I just want to say that it's not virtually impossible to separate the 2 halves you mentioned without a grinder.. I usually throw that part in the copper motor bin but i wanted to give it a go.I hammer the shaft out first. There's a snap ring which is recessed looking at the long end of shaft, remove that and the shaft will come straight out by use of a hammer. Use the hammer again to separate the 2 halves. No grinder was needed my came apart quite easy like a hot knife through butter. The shaft and 2 halves are fine splined. Then again no 2 alternators are built the same which makes some easier than others I guess you could say beginners luck 😂
You are totally right. Since I made this video I scrapped another one and I hit it with a 2lb hammer and it came right out. The reason I said that 1: the first one I did was so rusty it wouldn’t budge. 2: I mis spoke when I said that. Thank you for your comment.
Hi, great video. Just an FYI .The components you pulled out from inside and called dirty brass were silicon diodes. An alternator makes AC power, the diodes rectify it to DC to charge the battery.
Nice break down video, I have always wanted to see how it's done. I have a core buyer for my starters and alternators and other things that he will buy.
Great video dude. Ignore the haters. It is good to see items broken down and see what's inside. You know what? They can watch something else. Keep doing your thing.
Hello sir nice to see you again although I haven't scratched an alternator but I mean it's a motor I've accidentally bought a set of cut-off discs that are actually designed for masonry once and used them for steel and I've used the steel ones as well the masonry ones actually last longer than the steel ones do I also got a tip from somebody that does masonry and he also scrapped a little bit I was at the harbor freight and he said grab the grinding wheel design for cutting Masonry
I wish it were more common to swap the rotor out with a permanent magnet rotor to turn these into universal sized brushless motors. I have one and it’s BADASS!
Awesome man if you had some lubricant like oil or whatever that you have left over from your AC units you can I usually do that it cuts down on Sparks and it makes a little mess but at least dust doesn't go everywhere
I found the same thing with the machete and a ceiling fan motor. It just bent the steel frame. I melt metal and don't worry with the armatures unless they are simple to unwind, I just toss them into my crucible and melt the copper out, then remove before I pour.
Thanks for sharing your experience. I haven’t tried the machete on a fan motor yet, it’s good to know it doesn’t work. Machete has been great with other motors though. Yeah armatures are a real pain lol

I recently found another alternator and I soaked the shaft with some WD-40 and I was able to use a 2 pound hammer to drive the shaft out and the two pieces separated from the coil of copper. The key is to soak that shaft.
