Omg I can’t believe you’ve put this on. My son was asking me to do this recently and I told him I’ve only been teaching myself sax for 17 months 😂😂 I managed to sort of do it tho with him laughing saying I was gurning 😂😂😂
Nice video, I’m definitely going to try that out. I’ve known a saxophonist who used to correct the intonation using l unusual keys position, can you make a video about that? I’m not really sure if it’s a common tecnic or if he just came up with that himself
That is really cool. You should be able to make a longer smear by not stopping at the E and continuing on down to the D using the same method then, right?
Funny that you should mention Rhapsody In Blue- many classical saxophonists have recorded that on alto sax, with the smear (look it up)! It's possible to do portamentos like that throughout the whole range of the instrument. I have more information if you're curious
I have tried it in the past but found that there is only a very small part of the pad movement that affects the sound and seemed too difficult to use in practice. Do pro players really manage to get enough control to use this technique live?

I was right.
You are the best sax teacher on internet . Every time I opened new video , comes another amazing tutorial .
Wow, thanks!🙏🏻
As always, very helpful and inspiring. Thanks Jamie!
Cheers Peter
Cool training. Thanks.
You’re welcome ☺️
Sometimes did the same thing with the open holes on the wooden recorder, so I was wondering about it with the sax. Thanks for putting us on to this.
Great Sam. Glad you found it helpful

I certainly tune certain notes with extra fingers. Eg middle E by adding low Bb.
Great tip! Thank you Jamie!
You're welcome
Nice! I recently discovered this technique on a tune I was practicing by bending/blending from F# to G.
Nice one Rob.
Excellent tip. Working on some blues tunes w this info.
Cool. 👍🏻
How would you suggest trilling from the staff C to a D? Using the palm D is good, but trilling with the palm key is difficult to be consistent.
Yeh I would just trill with the palm key. You can keep your C finger down though.
Cool! Will try that. Thanks Jamie. ❤
Great Sabrina. Have fun!
Love it, Jamie. Thank You!!
Cool Tonio, glad you enjoyed it
Thanks Jamie this is really helpful!
👍🏻
Hi Jamie another great lesson. Thanks.
Can you please do a lesson on ghost tonguing. Thanks Tony.
Thanks Tony. One to add to the list! Cheers for the suggestion
Thanks

Yeh sure.
how have I never tried this

Sure I know you can swoop like that on sax too.
Hi Jamie.....great video...but assume this doesn't work for bending up?
No it works up too. Try it.
Hello sir 🥰
Hello 👋🏻
Using the larynx is smoother than the key
Only a little bit, it's pretty close.
Yeh it’s probably smoother, yes.
I have tried it in the past but found that there is only a very small part of the pad movement that affects the sound and seemed too difficult to use in practice. Do pro players really manage to get enough control to use this technique live?
It’s very subtle. I use it in combination with my throat.
I’m having trouble playing the lower notes. They keep going an octave higher for some reason. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
Relax your jaw. Let the reed vibrate fully.
@@GetYourSaxTogether That really helped!! Thank you.
I always thought this might be considered the worst form of cheating. I didn't stop me doing it all over the place though.
Cheating? No way!! 🤣
I tried bending and growling on my Beginner Carlton mouthpiece, did not end well. (Don't do these things on beginner mouthpieces)
😬
