      Haymitch: I was forced to compete in a game where I had to survive by killing/avoid being killed by other kids. When I won, the government got mad at me for using a loophole and killed my friends and family. What's worse is that for the next 23 years, I had to coach other kids who had no chance of winning and watch them get slaughtered
      Sirius: I lost my best friend, his wife, and a relationship with their son bc I trusted my other friend with their secret location. It turned out that he was actually working for an evil, genocidal, psychopath and betrayed their location. When I found out that the fucker betrayed everyone I tried to bring him in but he framed me for his murder. I spent the next 12 years in prison where the guards would literally suck all the happiness out of me. When I escaped, I managed to catch the rat who framed me but he managed to get away. Did I mention that my family is full of racist, xenophobic, lunatics. One of my cousins actually tortured a couple to insanity for information that she never got

    Katniss is a deeply flawed character and Haymitch saw her for what she was: a survivor. Peeta and her sister glorified her, her childhood love saw her as a tool, her mother felt mainly guilt and Haymitch knew what she really was.

    • @Pktommy1

      @Pktommy1 Have you read her work "Gregor the overlander" series? It's brilliant. It's marketed at children's books and I read them when I was about 10 before the hunger games existed and I thought "she will be famous one day" as a young girl. Even her children's books have great world and character building and are extremely violent without being vulgar.

    • @evyrys2725

      @itsnemosoul8398
      I disagree. Katniss has normal flaws like everyone, no deeper than anyone else. You know who is deeply flawed? Haymitch. I love him a lot and his and Katniss's relationship is one of my faves, but let's not pretend he didn't treat Katniss awfully sometimes (not comforting her after Prim's death and after she sought him out for comfort, teasing her about boy problems). Katniss is a survivor but the entire point of the books is that she doesn't want to just survive all the time. She's sick and tired of it. And just because Peers treats her as someone special and deserving of love that doesn't mean he's glorifying her???
      Suzanne Collins wrote a book about how in a world full of cruelty and injustice, love and kindness can still thrive and yet people only choose to view it through the most cynical lenses ever.

    Honestly I wish they included the part from the book where they watched the recording of Haymitch winning the hunger games. He fought against fifty kids instead of twenty-five. It really showed why he’s the way he is. I understand why they didn’t include it, but still...

    Haymitch was PHENOMENAL in the book, I loved him dearly; someone else said it but I totally agree that his movie edit was weirdly like Sirus Black's and Luna Lovegood's movie edits.

    Book Haymitch sounds like that one meme "I've only had [Katniss] for a day but if anything happens to her I'm ending everyone in this room and them myself!" XD
