I think the fish is packed raw, and then cooked in the cans right after it’s caught on those huge processing ships. Just like when we can food at home. The cans are steamed, then labeled. So I believe the canned fish is preserved nicely, from the sea to the cans to us. (I think) 😁
The fish is fully cooked in the can just like tuna. The fish is safe to eat right out of the can. The salmon patties are fried to cook in the flour and egg.
Love salmon patties. Give you lots of credit for pressing on even when your fatigued. I suffer as well and understand what it takes to keep up with everyday life. You keep such a good attitude. Keep on cooking. . Keep up the videos

Love! love! love! "Salmon (Comfort Food) Mom "always" made mac & cheese, when she made salmon patties, and her green veggie was "always" buttered peas, with salt, pepper, and sweet basil. Brenda, rather than flour I boil a medium potato, mash it and use that as a binder. I found if I place the patties in the refrigerator about two hours before frying they do not fall a part as easily.
Hi Brenda, love your channel! My mama always called them salmon patties. We would always have macaroni and cheese with the little sweet peas. Sweet memories of my childhood! Thanks, Brenda!
HI Brenda and David. Hope all is well with you. I have a small garden this year.. Dr doesn't want me to work at all in the yard unless I wear long pants taped to my ankles and long sleeves. My body no longer produces histamine blockers. So the bugs, mosquitos love me. I immediately swell up and get cellulitis. Oh the joys of getting older. I love salmon patties. And every time I make them I make Mac and cheese. Now I'm going to go buy some canned salmon and make some. Have a blessed day.
Hello from KY love you and your channel.Brenda hope you feel better soon.So good to see you and hear David .My Mom mashed a cooked, peeled potato in her salmon and she didn't put onion. This made enough to feed the four of us.Stay safe,I pray every night for you and your family. You guys are a cute couple. So funny especially possum innards, really David!
My neighbor used can Mackerel, it was cheaper. We loved fried Salmon. The soft cartridge can be eaten, out of habit I remove them, plus the DARK skin. I add lemon juice, & a little sweet Jiffy Cornmeal, mixed in with the egg&flour, onion's. Seems to make them less " fishy". We made sauce mayo, catsup,& relish for the kids to dip them. At 2&3years old they begged for them. ... The best part is eating them cold, the next day ! We rolled the patty in regular CORNMEAL,(then crushed corn flakes,) To fry crispy. Thanks for reminding me, & inspiring me too. !
I'm 59 years old, my great grandparents are from Appalachian Mountains in Tennessee. My grandma and great grandma would also substitute a can of mackerel for the salmon to make salmon cakes. . These are still one of my favorite foods. . Reminds me of growing up..
This takes me back to my childhood. Thanks Brenda! David, I laughed out loud when you said the cheese smelled like a wet dogs back...you are too funny.
Hi! Brenda and David, we call them salmon patties, I make for my hubby I don't care for them. My mom made them and I didn't like them as a kid either. I make them much the same way you do, I also remove the skin and bones, he says I shouldn't but I do anyways. You are living proof that a big kitchen isn't needed to make delicious meals.
I cook salmon patties pretty often. My best friend loves them . I like them too. I only put flour , salt and an egg in mine . I don't use a lot of spices , I never use garlic , it turns my stomach upside down. My momma made gravy with her salmon patties. I love to hear you and David talk ; the older I get the more I go back in time, I grew up in the best possible times , I was born in 1947 . The patties sure do look good. ❤❤
My mom made them so much we got tired of them. I think I've made them twice since I've been on my own. She would put egg and crushed up saltine crackers instead of flour with salt and pepper. Made fried potatoes and a vegetable. Glad your back. Not sure if I got your number but sure would like talking to you. The car is still not right. Gotta take it back and have the hand controls checked on Friday. Really starting to get me not being able to go places by myself.

Love y’all Brenda. I’m a hillbilly too from the hills of Tennessee. I just watched your Salmon Pattie video. As a kid growing up and even now at 36 years of marriage we not only have those with dinner we eat with oatmeal and hot biscuits for breakfast. Yum yum. Love y’all.
Hey sweet friends. We ate salmon Pattie’s once a week when I was growing up. Now I make them the same way you do. Love your channel. Thanks for sharing. Have you ever scrambled salmon with eggs. That is good also.
I love salmon patties. I always thought there were potatoes in them. Now, I know why the ones I tried to make didn’t turn on out. I don't like salmon but my Husband does so I make it for him. I like cod and other white fish 🐟 I love sea food I do like Albacore tuna in olive oil lemon. But I don't cook a lot only the two of us. Hope you feel better Brenda 🙏💛🙏
I'd love to have your sirloin steak and potato recipe my son would probably eat the whole dish by himself. He's a meat and taters boy like David. Brenda you cook like my mama did when she was able. She's 81 now and not in good health but I'm blessed to still have her. I'm sorry about your friend passing away. My condolences to her family and friends and to you also. Much love to you and David from South Carolina
Thanks so much. with RA you can some severe fatigue. you get tired a lot, but this fatigue is so bad at times, it takes everything in me to stay awake. Its been so hard today I went to let my friends dog out. she had to travel to the hospital far away today. I usually take care of her dogs. my car would not start when I cam back in. it jumped very quick and then David brought me a new battery hoe. its good when you work in the auto parts. there is still something else wrong with it. I think that it is a tire making a noise. I have a pretty nice care still yet but they will all break.
We call them salmon dabs. I have found salmon that is clean in the can. No more picking bones nd stuff for me. We have always had them served with white rice, fresh sliced tomatoes and cucumbers. A family staple when my kids were little. 🥰 I love your new stove. Mine is seemingly going downhill. Looks like we may have to give in and get one soon. 🤔
Grew up eating these once in a while. Momma always crushed up crackers and put in the mix. It stretched the meat a little farther I guess. When I got married I used the canned tuna and followed her recipe. It was much better in my opinion bc I don't really care for the taste of any fish and the tuna seemed a little milder in flavor than the salmon. Sorry to hear that your friend passed away! We never know how long we'll have somebody in our life, so we should cherish each moment. God bless you both and I'm looking forward to the next video! Be blessed and stay well
Hey Brenda, I have a hard time making gravy. Can you please show how you make sausage gravy?? I don't know why but I just don't make decent gravy. I thank you for your time. I am 59 and I have battled R.A. for 30 years so things downt work well on me either. I pray for your and David's health. God bless both of you.
My Daddy loved salmon patties. My MaMa would sometimes make potato patties, bean (pinto) cakes, and salmon patties as a complete supper. As kids, we loved it because we could eat the whole meal with our hands.
Hi Brenda and David!! I sure have missed you guys!! I hope you are staying safe and well. I LOVE salmon patties and that is exactly how my mom would fix them. (Try them with a little mustard on them) Thanks for sharing and hope to see you both again SOON!!! So sorry for the loss of your friend. PLEASE STAY SAFE!! XOXOXOX
My hubby is not a seafood lover, so he makes his into a sandwich, with plenty of mustard. I want mine just the way they come from the pan, no bread, no mustard. I also love them cold, straight from the fridge.
Yum! I had salmon patties this past weekend. I do buy the pink salmon in the pouches, though. I can't stand to touch the bones and skin...I'm a squeamish cook😀. I do hope you feel better soon ! So much illness going around right now. Stay safe!

I love your new stove.

My Daddy loved salmon patties. My MaMa would sometimes make potato patties, bean (pinto) cakes, and salmon patties as a complete supper. As kids, we loved it because we could eat the whole meal with our hands.
I love salmon cakes. They're super healthy, too. I don't need to buy any salmon this week. I've got 3 cans in my pantry!! (I get the same brand, too!)
I make salmon cakes about every month I like them and I make fried taties to go with them
looks good, ate those a lot as a kid
Mustard? No!!!!!!
Yum! I had salmon patties this past weekend. I do buy the pink salmon in the pouches, though. I can't stand to touch the bones and skin...I'm a squeamish cook😀. I do hope you feel better soon ! So much illness going around right now. Stay safe!
