- Thank you for watching another Quick Tip Video Series on my channel. I am going to cover the Follow the Contour mode on my Minn Kota Ultrex with i-Pilot Link. What an incredible feature. I will show you how I set it up quickly to allow me to focus on fishing.

I do not have Mega Live, but I do have Garmin Livescope. :) I compared the two and I just can't see Humminbird's image matching Garmin's yet. Someday, they will. :) I do have other videos and quick tips, specifically for Humminbird, and I plan on making more soon. If you aren't subscribed, if you will do that and turn on notifications, you will know the second they come out. :)
@@PaulsOutdoorAcademy i to have upgraded my boat to a ultrex i pilot link and the helix 9 and helix 7, can you run a follow contour threw the remote? also it appears to only be available threw a lakemaster chip?

I do think the lakemaster is required. I will check the remote to make sure but I don’t think you can fully Follow the contour using remote. The reason being, to start you have to move the cursor to a line to follow and I don’t think you can with the remote. I do think you can set it up on the graph, and then use the remote to turn the prop on and off. 😀

Thanks! I don’t have any added map cards but my Helix shows contour lines for one of the lakes I fish. I’ve been trying to follow one of those contour lines but suspect that it’s not being recognized as a contour line because it’s just seeing it as a feature of the map (like the shoreline would be, for example). Do you think that’s it? (My Ultrex has ipilot link, by the way.)
I am almost 100 % sure you will have to have navionics or lake master. If I found out any different info, I will let you know

It is, which I know is a pain. But the maps are soooo nice to have

I bought Lake Master maps for Table Rock, Beaver, Truman but how do I get contour on small local lakes around me? I have Basemap on my Helix 8di but can't seem to see contour lines.
Thanks for joining, Richard! From what I understand, not every lake is available on Lake Master. If you have Autochart on your unit, you can actually use it to create your own lake maps with lines. Would this be something helpful in a video?
Also is your 8 Di a gen 3 or 4?
Another option is to check Navionics to see if they have your local lake. You can run these in your units!
That only works with the ipilot link? I have the helix 9 si/di mega and the Minn Kota Terrova and I want my unit to do this

Do you have Humminbird Helix Fish Finder Connected to the Minn Kota Trolling Motors using the Universal Sonar 2?
Hello Ronald! I have everything routed to the one boat network. I do think there is one cable which goes directly to the ultrex from the 10 inch unit up front but the boat is covered and it is cold. Hahahha I will check soon

Is your trolling motor iPilot Link? I that is required. I use LakeMaster Chips but I don’t know if your unit supports that.
But what if the lake you are on is not mapped? Is there a way to set it to run the bank at a distance of 30 feet from the bank, or remain in 10 feet of water while running the bank?
That is a good question. I need to find an unmapped lake and see. Most of the units can build your own colored contour maps as you drive the boat around slow. I wonder if you can make your own colored chart and then follow those lines? I will try that

What if there is no lake master chip but a person has a zero line card that they mapped their lake. Can you follow from the zero line card?

When push go to the follow the contour does not come up
Do you have a lakemaster card for the lake you are on? I am pretty sure you also need iPilot Link on the Ultrex and not just iPilot.
when following a contour line, what happens when you get to the end of it?
Great question. Most contour lines I see don’t really ever end. I can see them at 1 foot but that one foot continues on and on. With that being said, the electronics do not care if you are trying to use them to drive your boat aground gahahah.
If you start on a 2 foot line they typically just keep you on that line from what I have seen

I wish I could tell you for certain but I can’t. I do not think that it will work but I have not personally tried it, as I don’t own the Navionics cards. Sorry about that. I did search but. Could find any info. I will look again!

Sir can you help me, when I try this my Helix does not bring up “follow the Contour” as an option. Do you know if I need to do something in settings or why does my helix 12 not have that option. I have the lake master map system. New VX and ultra trolling motor etc, everything you have in this video, but does not give me the command “Follow the Contour” Thank you for any help you can give
Can you tell me what generation it is? 2, 3, or 4? And if it supports networking? Unless it is fairly old, it is most likely a g3, g3n, g4, or g4n.
Also, is it an Ultrex with iPilot Link or just iPilot?
My helix is Gen 4 both of them, it is an Ultrex with Ipiolit link. All the brand new versions
