The site link (in the description) gives a few circumstances when you may wish to trial this exercise, eg to promote swallow function (short term) in patients at risk of deconditioning or microaspiration who are unsafe to swallow a bolus (you could also use ice chips for this), or if your patient struggles to trigger a swallow during Masako exercise. Research suggests it does not have long term benefits on swallow reflex function, however. Any decision ultimately depends on your own clinical reasoning, however.
