The Mandela Concert was staged at Wembley Stadium in 1988 and was broadcast around the world on TV, Dire Straits were one of the first to be asked to play. You may have recognised Eric Clapton on guitar during the performance. He was drafted in at short notice because "the other guitarist" Jack Sonni had very recently become the father of twins.
Ya bloody right their buddy, and you could tell it was emotional for him 1 by the way he played but his expressions and a few pauses he took to get gather himself. Brilliant song and epic performance truly
Only Mark Knopfler can let a guitar cry like this. The guy is just INCREDIBLE and unmatched. Go check out more life performances of Dire Straits, you wan't regret it. Like this one for instance: th-cam.com/video/fuH8LA_cBkc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0STSOO8NBcGxTTov The solo at the end grabs me everytime, I can't help it. So beautiful!
This is a masterpiece (like all songs from the Dire Straits), a musical and emotional journey, and the most moving song ever. Having survived a war as a child, this song speaks volumes to my soul…Mark’s astonishing storytelling (from the perspective of a dying soldier in the Falkland Islands War, adding some anti-war morals in the last verses) and musical genius send shivers to my whole being. The heyday of this song is Mark’s guitar mourning. Listening to this song (and the original video clip) should be mandatory to those who stand for wars or segregation…This was a masterclass in composition and performance by the tightest band on stage ever. Thank you for reacting to the best band ever, with top musicians, and to one of their best songs. These guys are Gods of music!
Knopfler's performance was one where he zoned out and was absorbed by the solo. He was amazing that night and Clapton knew it too. His Tunnel of Love version at the thank you Australasia concert is very special too.
Ey mate its honestly no problem my guy , i should be thanking you because without you and others watching and interacting with me thr channel would die so thank you buddy
@@jbreacts " my pleasure mate but you will be blown away by those two songs that left in the links below mate enjoy and watch for youre reactions to them
I've dropped another great song below mate for you to react to its called Romeo and Juliet and also will leave a link for " Sultans of swing again from the same show in Wembley stadium from the Mandela concert "
It's not about the Falklands laddie! This is a false assumption which has spread like Chinese whispers. It's a comment on the futility of war in general. The clue is in the images in the official video.
The absolute best live version of this song. I was lucky enough to be there, and by god, there were tears in my eyes. Fabulous.

What a masterpiece. Just epic
Tribute to soldiers everywhere but particularly to those who fought in the Faulklands.
The master playing his Pensa Suhr MK1. I've seen him play live 6 times and used 3 different guitars for this track. This is among the best.
if you dont know it yet, check out that amazing documentary for more details on his guitars ! th-cam.com/video/27OT_FSWrIE/w-d-xo.html
@@floberryboii3535 Thanks, and I was aware of that clip. Great though and thanks again take care.
One of the most emotional performances I have seen. Knofler looks so defiant and stoic at the end.
