In this episode, we share the incredible story of IAS Samyak Jain, who secured the 7th rank in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021 despite facing visual impairment.
Samyak Jain, from Delhi, faced a big challenge at 18 when he was diagnosed with a severe eye condition. By 21, he lost his ability to read and write. However, he continued his education, earning a Bachelor's degree in English (Hons) from Delhi University, a Postgraduate Diploma in English Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and a Master's degree in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He chose Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) as his optional subject for UPSC.
Samyak's parents, both working for Air India, played a crucial role in his journey. His mother, who lives with him, and his father, who works in Paris, provided unwavering support, inspiring Samyak to overcome his challenges.
Samyak's severe eye condition at 18 was a major setback. By 21, he could no longer read or write, but he adapted by using audio books and other alternative methods. His mother helped as his scribe during exams, showing remarkable resilience.
Samyak started his UPSC preparation in 2020 during the Covid-19 lockdown. Despite not succeeding in his first attempt, he stayed determined and achieved the 7th rank in 2021. He studied at least seven hours daily, regularly took mock tests, and kept up with current affairs.
Samyak Jain's journey shows that with determination and support, any challenge can be overcome. His story inspires all UPSC aspirants to never give up on their dreams.

Chaksushi mantra ka Jaap karo. (If u believe in these things) suryadev ki Upasana karo. Or else you can try yoga. Put cucumber on your eyes as it has cooling effect
