I'm a huge death metal and grindcore fan. The first time I heard Beirut, it was the song Carousels, and from then on I went out and bought every album. Beirut gave me a whole new outlook on life. Thank you Beirut, your music cured my depression.
Congrats, thanx for mentioning GUAYMAS SONORA i am a proud Sonorense. There is a band in Tijuana called La Ballena de JONAS that sounds sort of like BEIRUT. PEACE !!!!!! Ricardo Amaya.
@sarahgateaux Yesss, I agree! Beirut's main violinist is Owen Pallett who heads the now self-named band 'Final Fantasy'. He also plays for Arcade Fire. Not sure if you've heard of him or not but if you're also familiar with Joanna Newsom, you'll be most likely to love his cover of 'Peach Plum Pear'.
Believe me or not but it was almost the same for me (despite being metal and grindcore fan :) ). I love that music event thou it reminds me of bad time in my life :c It helped me get over my temporary problems. Thank you Beirut!
i believe it's called a "flugelhorn" (which means, "wing-horn" in German). I've seen them used in marching bands quite a lot. Such a cool song. Such a cool band. Such a cool horn!!!
I love beirut!!!!!! Guyamas Sonora (in fact, there´s a missing "a" between the u and the y) or guAymas sonora it´s a City in sonora, which is a mexican State. Sorry for my bad english.
(Read the lyrics) I think hes talking about a girl he loved but lost, and now she is getting married. Lyrics- No I was not there, on the church stairs. The wind in my hair, a flood through my tear
its GUAYMAS dude, a nice city as everything in Mexico, jaa. This is an excepcional voice an a real artist. 4 me is almost like a pamiliar sound, like mariachi sound. just great.
In the hall I heard your faints falling. Your trial and my corrections made. You had all the prayers of my loose heart. You had all the prayers of once had gone. No I was not there on the church stairs. The wind in my hair fled through night's air. No I was not there on the church stairs. The wind in my hair fled through night's air. Me I wanted, I wanted the right time. Me I wanted, I wanted the fire in line. Me I wanted, I wanted the right time. Me I wanted, I wanted the fire in line...

There is a band in Tijuana called La Ballena de JONAS that sounds sort of like BEIRUT.
PEACE !!!!!!
Ricardo Amaya.
@FieryFeonix It's a Flugelhorn with rotary valves. So it's played sideways. The valves are like a french horn's instead of like a trumpet's.
As I asked 4 mounts ago, finally Beirut is comming to Mexico. on february I cant belive It. it will be amazing¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡ thankssssss
I don't know why, but all of a sudden my dream is to play in a band like this. It's so beautiful, it really moves me.

I haven't been this impressed with a live male vocal performance since the first time I heard Rufus Wainwright.
this is my favorite song from the album.
Believe me or not but it was almost the same for me (despite being metal and grindcore fan :) ). I love that music event thou it reminds me of bad time in my life :c It helped me get over my temporary problems. Thank you Beirut!

@152tbs possibly he plays a flugel horn. They look similar to trumpets but are slightly bigger and have a warmer sound.
i still say their drummer is the happiest man alive lol i love that guy
(Read the lyrics) I think hes talking about a girl he loved but lost, and now she is getting married.
Lyrics- No I was not there, on the church stairs.
